It's possible. I bought one just before the last increase so I'm not up on current pricing. Though in states with more than an 8 per cent sales tax, it would be slightly cheaper in Canada.
Gracekelly you are correct. I read that you can have the business ship your item to a noncanadian residence and it's tax free. I forgot all about that. So do you pay for the tax upfront and then get the refund by using one of the companies? Or do you leave the item at the store to be shipped and they do not charge you tax? If no one knows and I just so happen on a Birkin in VancouverI will post a reply here.
Mistikat I thought about that too. I haven't been able to find a Birkin in my city. I think I have a better chance and greater stock to choose from in Paris than in Vancouver. I will just have to avoid H Vancouver and keep my fingers crossed for Paris.
It was great, but perhaps it was the store. No tax charged at all,so did not have to apply for refund. It was at Whistler and they are probably used to many out of Canada tourists.
how long does it usually take for you to take the tax back? Thanks
It's supposed to take 6-8 weeks... I'm approaching the end of my 7th week of waiting and I still haven't seen anything yet though.
I bought a fur cape there LOL! No Hermes. No boutique there.
I didn't get mine back for about 3 months!! I don't think the tax processing is at all efficient in Paris for Hermes. It's supposed to take 6-8 weeks... I'm approaching the end of my 7th week of waiting and I still haven't seen anything yet though.

I really hope it doesn't take longer than that for you! I think the turnaround is a bit random.Oh dear lordy. I did my detaxe at Heathrow cos that was my last stop. I seriously hope it doesn't mean mine will take longer than that!
