I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the fake MJ at target. I am thinking about getting the real MJ in that style and was so sad to see that it was already knocked off at target.

That MJ one has been around for over a year -- I bought the smaller one in bronze and I love it except for the fact that the turnlocks are for show and do NOT actually turn!

The Muse one cracks me up the most. I saw it IRL last week and just busted out laughing, and saying "oh wow, it's the Muse bag!"

Speaking of "inspired by", the new IM bags are pretty much all inspired by Coach, and not just the canvas ones. The pleather ones all owe a huge debt of gratitude to the late Bonnie Cashin, and when you see them with the kiss-lock pockets all around, you'll see why.

But I have bought some of them (the large pocket tote and the small studded suede clutch) because I think they are great looking and well priced. No handbag snob, me. The only ones I look down on (heh) are out-and-out fakes that claim to be the real thing.

Eh. Yeah these don't bother me. The ones that DO bother me are the ones that use all the logos of the authentic bags, then are sold as being authentic LV/Chanel/Dior, whatever, when they're clearly not.
These Target ones are, to me, simply a way of showing you like the style. Because even for me, someone who loves bags as much as I do, would have trouble distinguishing which designer some of those were patterned after.

 Ditto.......designer inspired is OK but mirror copy or AAAAA whatever ..HATE THEM:throwup:

Chloe is hands down the worst.
But not everyone is as into handbags as the folks on this forum. In fact, I'll bet many Target shoppers don't buy high end bags or know what a Muse/Edith/Stam etc is. I mean, obviously all sorts of people shop at Target including the ultra fashionable, I'm not generalizing Target shoppers as out of the fashion loop by any means. I just mean that I'll bet there are lots of people that buy the bags not even realizing that they are inspired by designer bags. They probably buy them because of the cute styles and designs. The very same ones that make the "real" bags so appealing.

I saw the Target version of the Muse last night when hubby and I stopped in to look at movies...HIDEOUS! They do have cute bags, but their "inspired" bags look not-so-inspired!

I was thinking about just this thing the other day. It doesn't even need to be at the Target level. Before I started paying attention to high-end designer bags I never knew how much Coach and Kenneth Cole bite off of other designers, esp. Marc Jacobs.
I'm positive that back when I had no money and no awareness of high-end anything and bought Target bags I was buying bags "inspired" by designer items. But once you discover the real thing . . . there's just no going back!

Actually, those look quite nice for pleather/canvas bags, and I'd much rather have the Coach lookalike than the real thing. Since they're both made in China, why pay 10 times or more?

Now if you'd seen the Paddington one...blech.

I've also seen "inspired by" Chloe Gladys, the striped damask Balenciaga bags, and Balenciaga courier style bag too.

I think most women like handbags, but aren't necessarily into the designers or styles, and they see the ones at Target and think "Cute bag!" without knowing they're inspired by $$$ bags. I think that's totally fine.

I don't think there's anything wrong with bags that are "inspired" the way those are.
-but for someone that really can't afford the real deal and wants the "look" of a certain bag, I'd have more respect for someone buying "inspired by Target" as opposed to real fakey counterfeits that are labeled to look EXACTLY like the real deal.

Well said

It seems to me that a complete fake is better than an “inspired” bag. First of all an inspired bags are usually sold legally, it is like selling a product pretending that it’s design just looks like another product, when you buy a fake you know what it is, but some people may not be aware of what they are buying with the “inspired” bag. My vote goes to Marc Jacobs Tote :)
