All right, I have taken the plunge on this baby. Saumur 35, from 1990. All of my LV up until now has been new, so I'm excited to get my hands on this truly vintage piece!

It looks like the ideal rough-riding travel bag (which I've been looking for for a while), and, truly . . . I think I no longer covet a Balenciaga Velo now that this is on the way? It seems like an even more useful large cross-body bag.

Fingers crossed that she's true to the description and in nice condition!

Nice one! The vinatge bags I have are the trousse pochette and a 2001 stephen sprouse graffiti speedy 30

I have a 1988 French Company LV Speedy 30. 28 years...seems like yesterday. I wore it almost daily first summer I owned it, then a weekend or two every month for several months and then sporadically after that. Then it sat. And sat. And sat. I could have been better about storage but didn't know the proper ways at the time. A few years ago I took her out and the zipper had literally disintegrated from age. I put her away and said I'd deal with it later. I just took it in to LV and told me they didn't even know if they had a vintage zipper to put in it. They only replace if they have original parts. And they only store hardware 20 years. They found one and replaced the zipper. Except for a few white marks (which I wish I knew how to clean) the bag is beautiful. I would agree the quality of LV has appeared to descend in the last few years and when I compare it to the new line Coach 1941, I feel their quality has gone way up and LV way down.

Anyway, the bag is in it's dust bag after a brief reunion for now. I do believe it will be passed down someday. The quality was that great back in the day. A few areas of wear on the piping is about all you can detect if you really look hard. Yes, it did stand the test of time.

Wow! Great story! I'm so glad you were able to replace the zipper and that the bag held up otherwise!

I do have some reservations about such an old bag and how much longER if can last me - I'm hoping that the previous owner has treated it with love and that I can continue to do the same.

This little gal will be turning 20 on January next year! Here's a picture of her a month ago when I got her off eBay Japan and she's doing great so far! [emoji7] I rotate her with my other bags weekly after buying a vintage mono strap.
