Hi ladies, I have the prada saffiano 2274 in cameo. I've been reading all forum and still couldn't find the right answer. I'm just wondering, do you treat your saffiano bag with leather conditioner and water resistant? I read in some thread that saffiano leather is already protected so I don't need to treat it, but I'm just worried that it might crack. please help. thanks in advance! :)

I have had cracking with saffiano leather when its under my arm or if you mishandle it. If you don't mishandle it it should be fine!

Can you re-dye a Prada bag? I see one on ebay that I like but it's pretty scratched up (it's a tan/camel/caramel color). It's vintage so it's to be expected I guess, but wondering how it can be spruced up. Thanks!

Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster will be a good book to read. According to Wikipedia:

In the book, Thomas examines the corporate takeover of the small family-run luxury businesses, and their mission to "********ize" luxury by making it accessible to the masses. These new luxury conglomerates have achieved spectacular success at this by hyping their brands at fashion shows, staging provocative commercials, dressing celebrities for red-carpet events, and by making their products readily available through licensing, franchising, outlet malls, and online retailing.

According to Thomas, all of this has led to produces of vastly inferior quality, rampant outsourcing to developing nations, and a massive surge in both counterfeiting and the illicit activities it funds.

Great read, I am just about finished with it. Found it mentioned here on the forum, too.
Very sad to read about the diminishing quality and can really make you think about buying some hi-end luxury brands.:sad:

Gals, I have a Buffalo Easy Black Leather Sachel that is starting to look a bit dull (it's about 10 years old). Can I polish it myself, and if so, what should I use (I'm in the US so not sure if Loving My Bag products are available)? I'd rather work on it myself than bring it somewhere since it's not a repair. Thanks!

My husband is taking me later (finally!) to buy a Prada BN 2274, that's the size and style I've narrowed it down to.

Now I could stay safe a just get the black. But I love the caramel and argilla colours, they are available - ive rung the shop! The thing I am worried about though is I wear a lot of black and dark coloured clothes, would this transfer onto these bags? Do the handles tarnish? Are they easy to clean? I don't want to baby the bag and be constantly worried about it getting dark marks on it.

And finally I've read through a lot of threads re:quality issues, so I think I know what to check for - stitching, prada logo straight, "made in Italy" tag! Anything else?
Thanks in advance for any replies! I'm super excited to get my 1st Prada :D

Scratches on the leather and all metal hardware. Unwrap them all. And I checked or made sure the glue on the zipper sides were nicely tucked in, on mine. Because sometimes you can see the glue kind of sticking out. But tats because I was being picky. And make sure the leather doesn't have wrinkles. Don't forget to check for scratches on the metal hardware on the bottom of the bag.

Seam sealing should also be checked. And the corners at the base of the bag shouldnt be wrinkled. They are beautiful bags and i love the two of them i have. My cammeo has only been used a few times; no color transfer yet.

Thanks for your replies :smile1:
I still haven't gone yet as I can't make up my mind! Part of me wants to just go for the safe option and get the black, but I have black bags so the other part of me wants to get something different! Decisions, decisions! I think I'll go to the store and see them IRL I want something that will go with anything. Neutral.
Ill update when I've stopped driving myself crazy and have actually got the bag!

I was going to get a BN1801 in nero for the exact same reason! Scared that it would get dirty in lighter colors. But then i saw Argilla and that completely changed my mind. Not that black isnt beautiful but argilla took my breath away! I've been using it for almost two months. I normally wore jeans on weekends and havent had any color transfer problem.

The saffiano leather is pretty low maintenance. Most 'dirt' and light stain can be wiped off easily. Ink stain is a different story though. If your heart is set on a lighter color, go for it. It's worth the extra caution you'll have to take. I cant vouch for cameo but argilla is quite easy to take care off.
