I’ve also taken up skiing! Had a blast the past few months skiing around Europe and made me forget all about my scarf addiction, and I was almost hoping I’d give up my Hermès craze and spend all my money on skiing instead… Didn’t help when I saw some wonderful scarves being worn at the last resort I went to, and since coming home I’ve been back on TPF and have bought 2 more scarves 😭

I’m really hoping this thread will keep me sane and help me realise that I don’t need a gazillion scarves, but every time I see something I like (or even pre-loved) all common sense goes out the window and I always come up with an excuse to purchase it. Most of my friends don’t care about Hermès, so I really don’t have an excuse to be so addicted…
I actually tried to convert my two besties by gifting them 90s for Christmas one year but they just don’t seem to ‘get it’

My dear daughter has her eyebrows up every time I bring ‘junk' from H as she calls it. DH has now expressly forbidden me to get anything from Hermes  The last set of mugs was the last straw! I am also now making huge efforts to stay permanently on ban island

‘Junk’ sounds so familiar. It’s what my husband calls my H purchases too 😂

Thank goodness my non TPF friends have no idea about clothes or jewelry or bags. Or fancy homeware.

Most of my friends are openly judgemental about me "wasting" money on unnecessary things such as Hermès, so at some point, I stopped referencing anything Hermès related. I am happy that this is a safe environment to share concerns without being judged :)

With regards to managing spending, I do have monthly budgets I allocate for shopping, so I make myself stick to these amounts.

Glad I’m not alone in doing this! I started several years ago, mostly to better keep myself in check on spending, and found that it really helped me make more thoughtful purchases. I’m less inclined to just buy for the sake of buying now. Not sure how you manage your budget, but I set aside a certain amount of fun money per week. If there’s any left over, I just add the next week to it, which allows me some flexibility for larger purchases and/or a spending spree. Anything I sell (e.g., consignment store, resale site, old jewelry) gets added to my fun money amount. I try to remind myself there are only so many days in a week, weeks in a month and months in a year, so I don’t need to own all the pretty H things, no matter how tempting they might be. And if I want a bag, the offer will either come, or it won’t. No amount of driving myself nuts over prespend is going to make it materialize.

My approach is similar: i allocate a monthly budget for shopping and add money back if I sell something. I don’t go to H more than once a months, so it worked well for me.
I also balance my spending by telling myself that « this month’s budget is over » and I need to wait till the 1st of the next month for my budget to renew lol. Often, when my budget is renewed the next month, whatever I desperately wanted to buy is not the top priority anymore ☺️

This also helps me stay excited about items I really want. I get a lot of joy thinking that I will buy something in a week/two instead of going any buying it right away.

I love what you said about the offer will come or not. So true and I'm going to keep reminding myself of that. I only buy things that I truly love and use. I haven't ventured into housewares for that reason. I think the plates and bowls and cups are beautiful but I'm a klutz and drop things all the time. And my dog would commandeer a blanket. I think the furniture is outrageously priced and way out of my budget so that's not an option for me.

A big yes to all of this! What you write about the excitement aspect of handling purchases this way really resonates with me.

Haha, same here about the housewares! I have a few small pieces, but for decoration only. The Mikasa that was my mom’s and is now ours? Still going strong. Any H plate I might buy? Well, that would get a major chip at first use. Because Murphy’s Law.

Thank you all so much for your lovely and interesting posts! ❤️ - For the last 10 years I purchased H bags exclusively, being the most loyal customer - not even asking for K/B/C… Has H been honoring this loyalty…? Well, not since two lovely SAs left our local boutique and quite arrogant and zero motivated staff took over. Since then visiting our boutique feels more like a dentist appointment (and an appointment is, of course, necessary nowadays…)… ;) As my H bag collection is quite extensive by now, it is time for me to slow down purchasing H and to move on to other brands who really value their customers… - For some years now, I have been taking notes in a diary which scarves and bags I am wearing on a daily basis. This is helping me to understand which formats/colors/styles I really use.

Yay! Where in Europe? I was at courcheval! The private lessons are half the price of deer valley Utah, and so are lift tickets

And the hotels and restaurants are nicer. . . You can buy a lot of skiing if you don’t buy Hermes lol

But I saw a lot of Hermes bags there

ETA: Sa texted DH that a denim jacket came in a small men’s size ( I like some men’s RTW, and it’s cheaper than women’s ) . I had expressed interest a few weeks ago, and so DH replied that we would go tomorrow. It was a short hiatus, but maybe the jacket won’t fit lol.

Thank you so much for this thread & the support.

I too am burned out from buying things from H and not even getting the bag i want.

How long should i wait? what happens if I don't visit the store for 6 months?

I don't mind spending to get a bag but i have already spent way more and been waiting for a bag for close to 2 years now. It's so frustrating.

I should have gone the reseller route before i committed to an H store.

It's really great we also support each other by not buying.
