I aim to be a ‘mindful’ shopper. Thinking about purchases no matter the price point. Hermes tends to produce items in relatively small quantity - hence the shortages and low stock complaints. Not just for bags /SLG’s
it’s frustrating when we can’t buy what we want, BUT personally I’d find it more frustrating, if everyone I knew had the same scarves, blankets, plates, bags, jewellery etc.
In some ways Hermes polices slow everyone down.

Like everyone says here, I only buy things from Hermes that I love. But recently I’ve been asking myself if I would buy the item I loved even if buying it would make no difference to a potential bag offer? Asking this question makes me uncomfortable sometimes but has definitely led to also enjoying items more. For example, my cashmere shawls and the silk gifts - I know I would have bought them regardless of their contributions to a bag offer. Not surprisingly, although I haven’t shopped at H since the first week of this year, I’m looking forward to going in next month for a cashmere shawl or triangle for spring!

At the 3 month mark of ‘slowing down’ (abstinence from going to Hermes). I must admit l am getting a bit antsy and have ben fantasizing sbout going to the store, although l have nothing l really want for now (am waiting for a quota bag). I caved by ordering a nice smelling shower gel from hermes.com. I know if l go to the store l will have no problem using my credit card to part with a few thousand dollars, because my willpower becomes weak when at Hermes

I feel like I could've been the one who wrote this. I promised myself to not spend until Q2 and it is so hard for me. Another 3 weeks to go I guess.

I haven’t been to the store / made a purchase since the first week of January. I’ve been going every month for 2+ years. I’ve been trying to limit H spending so I can divert necessary funds to my wedding in July. I finally caved and texted my SA and she said “oh it’s been a while.” Ahh :panic: the psychological warfare! She’s forgotten about me! LOL

TLDR : do you need or have to take a break from Hermes? , or do you only need to slow down? Come join and share your thoughts , feelings, or your support.

I think this thread should remain specific to Hermes Shopping and not moved to the general discussion because shopping at H is very specific.

I found myself reflecting on my last unpopular opinion and I think that it shows that I am not comfortable with the time, energy and money I spent for my H shopping in 2023.

I got an offer end of the year and wanted to slow down a bit after that.
But still, I found myself sending a text to my SA for a coat that I just saw and « need » to get.

I dont need new shoes, a coat, much more H scarves, expensive RTW, a bag or whatever right now honestly.
I mainly bought RTW last year because I wanted some nice pieces to balance my outfits. I was not buying to get a bag as I was lucky with my SA and home store, and I have a nice collection now.

I love all my H items and bags and use them often.I also love spending time shopping with my SA who is lovely.
I realised that when I am particularly stressed with work, I shop nice pieces because « I deserve it and they make me happy »

I am financially comfortable with my purchases but my funds are limited and even if they were not, I dont want to spend constantly that much at H. It is probably not a big amount for many here, but for the majority of people in real life it is huge…

For this year I would like to slow down, put less energy on shopping at H because I feel self conscious and want to focus on my business and my self development.

I know it will not be easy and I will need support because H makes beautiful things and It is difficult at times to resist . And if my SA call for something special, I might run to the store tomorrow..

Can we make this thread a place where we can support each other, without judging ?

If you want a break or slow down , just come in and share your thoughts, your feelings, or ask for advice if needed. If you are hesitant about ordering a piece, just ask for help or guidance related to the decision, not the item, the price or the redundancy with something you own already .
And if you still want to buy, It is also ok.

This is just a place for reflection, support, sharing experience…
Thanks for reading my longest post  and if you have tips, I am all ears ( or eyes for reading your post)

I too have so many beautiful items I don’t “need” anything. I have plenty of coats and RTW pieces that don’t get worn enough. Belts in every color, scarves, dishes of several patterns, and lots of beautiful blankets and scarves. My last haul is still on my dining room table with boxes unopened. I told myself I would be more discerning with my purchases not be so influenced by all of the “prettiness”, but I’ve come to realize the prettiness never stops. There’s always a new season, new items, new dresses, new coats, new jewelry….never ending “prettiness”. My LOVE of the brand and the shopping experience runs deep.

I haven't bought anything since December when I charge-sent some gifts and picked up a small Kelly 🤷‍♂️ I just don't feel the need. I did pick up something DH had MTM back in January in the States, but there wasn't anything instore that blew me away except a Barenia B25 (which was not available to me hahaha).

Since then my family has been dealing with a lot of pretty heavy stuff, and retail is just not on my mind except as a distraction/anaesthetic (ie, surfing tpf, reading magazines). I think my focus, when I can focus, has been on what is really important in life <3

I also think living in Paris causes me to be much more cautious with shopping anywhere else. We are lucky with selection and also with price. Maybe if things get better, I will do a little spring perk-up shopping. But right now all I am up to is staring at eye candy, preferably online.

I’m so sorry that you are going through such a difficult time, and I hope things start to improve soon.

I wish you & your family well & since you are in one of the most beautiful cities in the world hoping the
lights of Paris will bring you comfort

It is helpful to my own pace of consumption to look at an item I am considering and ask myself if it is as good as or better than what I bought before

Is the new item (leather jacket, cashmere coat, sweater, skirt) different enough; nice enough; functional or versatile enough…

Do I need another pair of [fill in the blank] and would I wear them in addition to what I have, or would they displace something else… is it an upgrade

A side test: am I buying this to wear? I do not need more clothing or bags bc they fill a ‘theoretical’ place. I’m not an accessories and RTW archive after all lol. I can love many things that I don’t have to buy. I can also exercise my muscle that says no, thank you. *

And,finally price and space . If I bought a cashmere leather jacket three years ago for x price, is this new one worth 2X. Is it worth the space I have to make for it. Who can I rehome the prior item to (I usually donate my stuff to friends and family)

* my SAs find it hard to argue if I make the astute observation that they have already sold me a version of the current item that is cuter; higher quality; or better in a previous collection lol. If I have so many other versions, have I worn those enough to add to their number? Usually the answer is no.

ETA: there is a practical reason to dressing as one would normally when shopping with your SA. It communicates your style and what you have immediately without saying a word

Hoping that spring brings good energy, healing, and peace to you!
