Debt? What's that? LOL...I am a 31 year old stay at home mom/student. We do have some handbag debt :), but not much.

Ditto, except change 31 to 33. I still owe $10K in student loans for my MA degree and sometimes it just kills me that I am not using it. :worried:

not at all. i choose carefully and spend wisely because while i do like to splurge here and there to have one or two very nice expensive bags that are classic, beautiful and crafted well to last me awhile, i know that when im 60 and i want to think about retiring soon, i want to have lots of money in my 401k, stocks, savings acct rather than a closet full of bags that wont bring me much.

Nope, not at all! I obsess about money in some ways and if I'm over my head, I start losing sleep! As a result, I make sure I don't get there! I used to stress about money all the time when I was a poor college student, never again!:D

that three piggy bank thing is brilliant...good for your parents and good for you for following it! im going to start that with both my girls...
thank you!
I agree - very smart practice. I do the same by setting aside a budget for shopping only. I will charge a large handbag purchase, but I make sure I can pay the entire balance when it's due. I refuse to pay finance charges. Of course I have to pace myself, too...:p not like a lot of you lucky ladies who can buy a 1K+ handbag every week! That is why I love this forum. I can live THROUGH you!

Nope. I don't even own a credit card. I don't buy things unless I can afford them and I wouldn't ask my boyfriend to buy me this kind of things. We both have jobs, I have my own money. ;)

NO~ I only spend what I can afford! That is why I agonize over which bag to buy- even though I want so many bags right now, I know that I can only afford so many. The rest of them I can enjoy through this forum! Thanks ladies!

We have adopted a cash policy at my house. That is: If I cannot pay cash for it, I do not buy it. It does mean I have to plan purchases, but I would rather do that than be buried in debt. I am going to buy two handbags for spring/summer-then I am done until fall!

Oh man ... I'm jealous of you gals whose parents help them out  ; that was not the case with me. Quite the opposite, actually (had to pay for my Ivy League education myself - took LONG time to pay that those off {university + MBA}!).

Then again, I've always said that I don't owe anyone anything because I've gotten everything on my own!

Thank you for posting this! It makes me feel a LOT better to know that I am not the only one! I put myself through college as a single mother. My parents helped with my apartment costs during part of my undergrad, and a couple of times gave me some cash during law school, but I footed the big bill (and am doing grad school now to finish my MA). My student loans will be a nightmare, but I am "on schedule" to have all my credit cards and my car paid off in the next three years. So my bag money comes out of savings ONLY...making up for the years of being terribly broke! :D

Good for you CeeJay! Seriously, that deserves and ovation.

I don't have debt. I have an allowence from my parents that I manage how I see fit... but I was raised with really good money-values. I have a (humble) short-term investment porfolio and a ROTH IRA and I'm really interested in in all things financial. There's a banker wearing pinstripes somewhere inside of me!
