I was hesitant to get a J12 as well after wearing a classic Cartier Tank for YEARS.
But i have to say i have NOT touched my Cartier since i got my black J12 with diamonds...its really quite classy IRL.I adore it
I used to be in love with TAG as well....but they have come out with MANY nice watches since. My jeweler (Been my jeweler for 15 years!)actually will let me try a watch out for a day to see how it feels..maybe your jeweler will do the same?

My regular local jeweler is closing  Has no watches left.
I tried on J12 and figured out which one I want - but I think I'd rather have a new SS one first.

*sigh*

Watch nuts will be watch nuts.. I would go for the Tag, you are going to be wearing it for a long time. Tag would only worry me if you were to try to resell it - they don't seem to hold their values very well.

Watch experts will always be snobby when it comes to watches. They can never collectively agree on which is a great watch brand. I do agree Tag Heuer is a more "visible" watch brand, but they make good quality beautiful watches. If a Tag Heuer watch, catches your eye, you should get it.

Could not have said it better! Watch experts will also say you should never consider a quartz watch. Buy what you love.

Swanky, not such a bad dilemma to have :amuse:, have fun with the search and remember that everyone is snobbish about something, from watches to mustard brands LOL!

My 2 cents, from personal experience-
J12- Love the styling but my 4 yr old model has already needed 2 major repairs, it is the superleggera model though which may be more fickle than the non chrono versions.

Rolex- ladies yacht master has served me well for 10 plus years, liked it so much that I bought DH a nearly identical large model to replace his much loved and abused TAG.

Fast forward 2 years, DH has handed over the big Rolex to me and reclaimed his TAG, he truly pined for it!

Have to add a final thought on snootiness too. We have quite a few friends from legendary yacht racing families (we're talking America's Cup caliber, not weekend sailors) and all wear TAG watches. Not a sponsorship thing-just workhorse watch of choice. DH does not fall into this group as he has barely mastered the boogie board-but it seems to hold up there too ;).

Can't wait to see what you choose-sure it will be perfect for you!!!

I have both an Omega and a Tag and prefer my Tag , it's just the design but for me it was the nicest sporty/bling watch . I got the formula one lady's steel with the black dial which I had switched to white last year which I prefer, I do have a Cartier but I havn't used it for ages. The TAG is a great daily watch. The diamonds in the crown hold up very nicely, first I was a bid scared but it's really a great watch.
I added a pic but this doesn't do it justice.
What quality is concerned every true watch "amateur" will tell you not to get a quartz / battery watch but an automatic and even better for a purist a manual one.
But most of the "bling" ones are battery driven. Personally I am not a big fan of the J12 I just don't like the material as much to me it's more of a "fashion" thing.
I am not an horologerie fan/ connaisseur, I don't open up my watch to stare at the mechanic, and I wear it on the right wrist so manual is a no no, so I love my TAG!

I've been perusing some of the watch forums and I have noticed a definite snootiness there about quartz watches. I don't care about the inside of my watch; I'm looking at the surface. It seems like a lot of the people on those forums have to put down the brand they didn't choose to "improve" the choice they did make.
DH is looking at watches and TAG is at the top of his list. My mom has a Tag and I think it is awesome.
I only have a Michele MW2 and a Movado. Like you, I buy things I think are pretty and I keep what I buy!

I've noticed that very few people mention EBEL watches. I love the classic wave with MOP and diamonds. I think it can look both sporty and dressy, too. Have you looked at their site, Swanky?

No, I haven't looked recently but I will!
When I bought my Tag originally I remember liking several brands until I tried them on and they weren't quote 'chunky' enough, too flat on my wrist, but I'll look again!
I haven't gone to a B&M store to try on yet, just doing footwork online first.

Hey Swanky,

I checked out the J12s after posting you twitter :) ...and came to the conclusion that whilst beautiful in its own right, I would probably go for something like an Omega and get a Michael Kors/toywatch Cermic watch.

I think where the Tag/Omega is concerned go for what you like and what catches your eye - simple :)

Enjoy!

xx

I love the different opinions on this thread. I will pose another question to add to your confusion LOL - you have a lot of lovely bling and I know you have said that you do go out evenings to "dressy" occasions. Since you really love your TAG what about getting a more delicate (with bling of course;) that you can wear for those occasions? How many people here have or change their watch when they are really dressed up? (I do - see vintage jewelry thread.)
And as was said, then you can buy fun watches to switch out when the mood strikes!

I was considering OMEGA (Aqua Terra Grey Teck in Quartz) and the Tag Carrera Quartz Ladies and in the end Omega won in my eyes. Been reading online and it seems that OMEGA is just a better timepiece in general.

Compared the 2 watches side to side:

Size:
Omega: 30mm
Tag: 27mm

Bracelet
Omega: better weight / better bracelet / feels more expensive
Tag: Light and somewhat flimsy bracelet

Face:
Omega AT Grey Teck: Very cool / modern
Carrera: MOP (girly) or basic black

Price:
Omega: Retail $2300 (I purchased at PrestigeTime.com for $1679 - AUTHENTIC I went to Tourneau and had them take a look and also remove excess links).
Tag: Retail $1500 (Can be found for about $1000 at stores like Jomashop.com)

I really think with Tag, you are going to get a great watch period. While I love the look of a J12, I'm not sure chanel is the best watchmaker. I know many of people who have had problems--that's not to say everyone has problems with them.

Rolex speaks for itself. Incredible. However, if you are looking for diamonds, the price of a Rolex is astronomical.

I think it really depends upon if you want diamonds and how much you are willing to spend.

Good luck and let us know what you choose!
