Just what case have you made, exactly?

Why do you assume that A) you've forgotten more than I know about the company and its operations; B) I receive my information about Hermes through marketing fluff; and C) I've not visited any suppliers or production facilities? What are you basing that on?

I'm basing that on the fact that you say my "claims" are inaccurate.

I can safely assume all my assumptions are true because of that, as you would not disagree with my posts if you really know all the things you say that I claim you do not know or have not done.

It is as if I say cocoa and milk are ingredients in the chocolate of XYZ Chocolate Company, and you say I am incorrect. I then proceed to say you have clearly never been inside the facilities of XYZ Chocolate Company, and I can safely assume this, because if you were, you would not have disagreed cocoa and milk are ingredients in their chocolate.

I think maybe you should go and convince Daniel Day-Lewis he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to acting. Let me know how that goes.

Let's get to the all important question. Are you all straight men who love fashion? If you are, it is very unfortunate for me and most here, as we are mostly married people. Where was the internet 15 years ago when I wanted to meet male fashionistas?

Yes.....well,at least I am. Which reminds me, can you direct me to the cougar/sugar mama section of this forum?:graucho:

...... Just kidding!:D

Isn't spending more than a thousand bucks on something as frivolous as a nice wallet supposed to be a completely enjoyable experience? Even if the H salesperson managed to find the perfect wallet for the original poster (and I'm not convinced that it would be possible to do so) after all this, how happy is that person going to be every time he pulls it out, thinking of all the problems encountered while trying to obtain it?

I would imagine everyone here in an internet forum discussing items like this has noticed that:

1. There are far more tales of bad customer service online than there are tales of good service.

2. Unless a person is transcribing from an audio or video recording, no conversation the length of the one between the original poster and the salesperson is going to be 100% accurate. And it's more typical that the party that looks the better in the conversation is the one doing the transcription.

Whether the conversation was exaggerated for effect, or whether the original poster would swear that was the exact conversation to the best of his memory in a court of law, the thing I'm confused about is, why even bother. If you want a custom-made wallet, get one. It'll make you more happy than an H one at this point.

And thanks, ID, for pointing out both that H aficionados here are ignorant, but that we are not at fault for our ignorance. It's the H marketing apparatus that deludes us so into thinking their products are something that we are happy to buy. Online forums haven't been this much fun since all the AOL'ers first got access to Usenet groups. :smile1:

How dare you actually discuss the topic, and question hermes!

Hermes bags and products can only be extracted from the earths core, one at a time, and only centurion european kung foo master craftswizards who sew them out of unicorn hair are able to finish their construction! Hermes invented leather, and sewing, and cows, and the letter H, no one can be like them! They can treat you any way they want, how dare you think you are worthy enough, and that your money is crisp enough to shop there.

Psht, AOL usenet? Commodore-64 IRC is where it's at!

sometimes you have to look at the other side of the pond.

borrowed and has my approval from foo's self documented behaviour, i know this j... is proud of it, otherwise he wouldn't act on the forum like he does.

Reading his description of the fateful event fully, I know exactly what happened, as I have been in similar situations with short people with napoleon complexes seeking to purchase luxury goods they can't really afford. Note that not once did he mention saying "please" or "thank you" to the store staff in his supposedly unabridged and unedited description of the event. His responses are short, curt, and demanding; he keeps insisting they have what he wants, even when it is pretty clear they don't. Normal people would of course leave and look for the item somewhere else. Irrational people keep demanding ever more finicky and fussy requirements and sales staff quickly realize the person they are dealing with is crazy, not likely to buy anything, and ultimately not worth their time. It confirms what I always suspected about him: he is a primadonna but without the charm and talent to 'pull it off' (to use an iGent phrase).

Wow, such prejudice! Since you are busy stereotyping short men with pretensions of money, you failed to make fun of the fact that he is Asian and dresses like an old man. Grow up.

The last time I heard comments like this, I was in 4th grade.

I'd like to believe that we are mostly men who like style, and classic style at that. You'd have to look at SW&D to find "fashion".

Men's Clothing on Style Forum tends to be a little more conservative.

On that note, the wife wants to know (and she is a member here) -- are there women's forums that cater to classic, conservative style (i.e. think Brooks Brothers or WASP-y New England outfits).

Tell her to try askandyswifeaboutclothes.com

Also, I resent the implication that we are fashionistas.

excuse me, LS, but you're forgetting my sub-species. :D

there must be at least one or two gay guys from that forum that made their way here. it's fashiiiin after all.

I will patiently wait until one of them raises his hand...

Hi, I've had a quick look around this site, trying to identify the various forums available. I've also had a look at the "Wardrobe" area and specifically the "What are you wearing" forum.

I've noticed that very few women (read: none that I saw) seem to dress in a manner much more than what I would describe as "casual".

As Volkov enquired, is there some area on this site where women have photos where they are dressed in more "business-like" attire?

As a straight man who's been interest in fashion, then style in my appearance for many years, I've ofter thought about what women think when the observe a man wearing a suit or sportscoat/trouser combination, especially with the changing nature of fashion. The women around me would generally accept what I was wearing and offer very little by way of criticism (for no other reason than I gave them little chance to comment).

I wanted to make a thread asking some of the members here about their thoughts on men's style (only out of curiosity, as I really enjoy the way I dress, as do many other men who dress similarly). However, I:

1) Don't know whether it's something that would interest memebers here;
2) Have no idea of where to post it

I do not post pictures on the other forum as I don't really need to have to level of fine criticism provided there and I'm not looking for absolute perfection in what I wear. Plus I'm such a crap photographer (I mean, BAD).

However, as my daughter dresses similarly to many of the "Wardrobe" posters, I'm simply curious to get some opinions of women on men's "classic" style (not necessarily fashion).

What do you think?

Clint

^That photo of mafoofan was photoshopped by one of the styleforum members. Just writing it down here in case anyone thinks it's a real pic.

Sorry dear, in matters like this, it's every man for himself! :P

Zach, you can check the sticky threads. Action photos.

Volkov, ah, so you are conservative fashionistas then.

Icarus, thanks for the croc pic, but I find it hard to believe that people who post on a forum named styleforum are not fashionistas. What do you call yourselves then? Stylistas? Yuck.
