Spend threshold for B/K/C

The knee jerk response is generally leather does not count towards prespend in the US or Asia

But, my answer to you could be yes, no, or it depends lol

Did you walk in cold and get a B40
were you introduced to your SA or just have instant chemistry
i am assuming you are not a long standing client bc of your post?

i have a solid rapport with my SA, but my DH has a better one
and, his text inquiries re mens RTW and accessories or life in general get a much faster response.
In my opinion only, if the smaller items that you want are men’s items, and
if your SA looks upon you as an ideal mens client, then I think your foot is in the door*

At any rate, in the US, prespend is not set into stone. If your next bag is also a larger size,
you may already be top of mind. This is bc smaller sizes are currently more popular. But, the larger sizes are also not as frequently ordered by the boutique. JMO though

ETA: *I apologize for making the assumption that a member who prefers a B40 is a male client,
or that men in general might have an easier time getting the QB of their choice. Similar posts have been roasted
for their un PC assumptions.

I do not intend to offend by this assumption, and would gladly accept correction
I will note that my SA is sometimes confused bc I shop both mens and womens RTW ( I am a woman)
and sometimes I feel like asking if my propensity to shop both gives me any kind of leg up lol

i would also like to note that bc of the marked preference for small sizes, it may be possible to get amazing deals lower than retail on collector quality bags in larger sizes. if you are at all interested in resellers
I also shop for women and men RTW. Mens is much cheaper and some designs are so cool . Optimus Prime anyone ?

:graucho:

Dear @880 and @acrowcounted and others:

I have a quick question. I am a male client in Madison in NYC. My birthday is early next year and I've been interested in Kelly Depeches 36. This is a briefcase for men and is occasionally available from the website as well. (I don't think it is considered a QB since it is frequently available online.) My SA implied that Kelly Depeches 36 is feasible for my birthday.

But, I personally like the Kelly Depeches 38 better which is only available through a special order. (I think any SO may take a long time, like a year?) More recently, I've also been thinking about B35 (or 40) or K35 (or 40) for men. (1) Are these sizes considered big (or less competitive)? (2) Do you think I would have a good chance for either B35 (or 40) or K35 (or 40) if I have a strong profile (e.g., spending history in non-leather categories)?

Thank you!

Yes, those sizes are considered big and are less popular. However, especially in the case of the K35, the stores know these are less popular and therefore order FAR fewer of them to begin with. My advice is always just to be sure your SA knows the full swath of specs you would be excited to purchase and then let them worry about stock levels and which arrives to the store first etc

Thank you very much. I guess I will have to ask about it to my SA and see what the SA says. :)

100% agree with @acrowcounted re letting your SA know your latest thoughts and preferences :smile:Good luck and happy birthday in advance@greenwich01 :drinks:

ETA: The B40 may be considerably heavier. I think @fonnas, @Prada Prince, and a few others in the guys and H thread chose the 35. @averagejoe may have both? https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/space-for-guys-their-hermes.377429/page-810

Hi! Chiming in to add that the b40 is a heavy bag. It was my first birkin (wanted it as my briefcase/work bag). Couldn’t do it! When I needed it the most (to carry my work load) it dissappinted me the most. I just could not carry it with laptop and other work items. I also could not use it for travel - too heavy. Regrettably I had to sell it. The 35 makes a difference in terms of weight. Hope you get your birthday bag!

Thank you! This is super helpful and I should go with B35 if it's Birkin.

My SA once told me a coworker swiped a bag that was suppose to go to their client. Like already approved by the SM and everything. I know a situation like that is a rare occurrence but after hearing that if a “can you come in?” text comes through I mad dash it out the door

Does buying a B/K/C count towards your spend threshold for your next quota bag?

I spent $15k on a B40 in June. I love the bag and I’d like to continue building my Birkin collection. Of course I’ll shop for smaller items here and there between requesting my next quota bag. Does the $15k I spent on my B40 help get my “foot in the door” for other Birkins? Or will my next request be like starting from scratch?
I think @880 answered it perfectly, but I’ll add this. Every penny you spend at Hermès counts. I don’t believe in the spend ratio (outside of stores in parts of Asia where it’s almost stated on the door  ) but we all know most stores prefer clients to spend across categories. In that sense a “quota bag” will not count. However, *if* you are a consistent client outside of the iconic bags, your overall spend does indeed matter.
In addition, (and echoing @880 to some extent) a B40 is almost in HAC territory and I can tell you for certain that “men’s” bags like the HAC and the larger Bolides are absolutely positives on a profile.

@QuelleFromage & @880 - Thank you for your tremendous insight. I very much love this forum as you all genuinely share great suggestions and advice. :)

To echo this - I'm definitely not the most 'well rounded' Hermes client (no furniture, occasional RTW, mostly shoes, silks, leather goods) and I have no problem receiving offers unprompted.

I purchased a few HAC's last year. My SM was over the moon (enough to leave one on hold for 4 months as I was out of the country).

Question: I may be able to visit one of European cities in my trip soon, and am wondering if stores in Europe require "pre-spending" or "a relationship with SA." I am thinking of London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, or Zurich, and am particularly interested in B35 or K40. Does anyone know how it work in these cities? Thanks!

Many boutiques in the EU (excluding Paris) have a wishlist system in place for quota bags. Your chances of walking out with one while visiting will be very unlikely. (London specifically only goes off wishlist but I’m sure as with anything H, if you were to walk in and drop $100k exceptions could be made)
