Spend threshold for B/K/C

I think it depends on inventory and the SA.
Yes! BOTH these things are key…if there is little or no inventory, it doesn’t matter who your SA is or how much you spend but if you don’t have an SA who is advocating on your behalf with the SM, it doesn’t matter if there is inventory. It can be disheartening if your nearest boutique is small and receives fewer bags…even if you have an awesome SA, they can’t do much with little inventory.

Hi! Sorry if this has been answered before but I was wondering if the spend has an “expiration” date as in it restarts each year or semester? I am wondering if my spend will carry over to next year since we are already in the second half of this year. Tia!

I think it depends on the region of the world you are in. Asian markets seem a lot more number driven and clear cut, European and North American markets seem more fluid. In the US, I don't think your spending profile "expires" in a precise time frame, but if the last time you made a purchase was 3-5yrs ago, I don't think it would be taken under consideration if you restart your shopping.

I don't think of it as the "Hermes Game" or "H Journey." Buy what you love and it'll happen. I think a lot of people going for quota bags are overthinking it. I don't think you have to spend a ton of money to get a bag. I think it depends on inventory and the SA.

For example, a colleague and friend of mine has been waiting for a quota bag for 2 years for his wife. Whereas I got 2 quota bags in less than 7 months. We shop at the same store. He has a different SA than me. My SA told me his SA has a lot of clients, so its harder to get a bag for all her clients, especially with inventory so limited.

My SA also told me there is no "pre spend." Do I believe him? Yes. I think for him, he doesn't look at how much I spend. Trust me, I shop but by no means a big spender. I'm not buying pillows, blankets, household items, and fine jewelry. I buy the occasional pair of shoes. He always tells me, "I never want to sell you anything you don't love." Maybe other SAs offer bags based on how much is spent to differentiate between clients?

I've been told that SM has to approve all QB offers, so there seems to be some sort of spend threshold for approval, but that may be a moving target, and SAs may have some leeway in that process and can make a case for a client that is well-liked, even if their prespend is not quite as high as others in consideration. There's somebody at my home boutique that's at 4:1 (unusual for my locale) and still hasn't gotten an offer, I got an offer at 1:1, and somebody else got an offer before me at 0.7:1. So I think there are multiple factors at play.

I’ve been told the same. Also been told the SM looks at: first the numbers and then categories on which you spent or how many catalogues you spent on. My SA told me the SM gives the approval and unfortunately there isn’t much what she can do except to present your case when your profile is ‘ready’. On the other hand, she does has some say when it comes to NQBs. But with the new direction of the company and limited stock, H wants to make everyone happy and try to distribute the bags instead of giving it all to the VIPs, as it was done previously.

Yes, the SM has to approve. Now, I don't think my SA is a SM, but I think he may have some seniority, because I've seen other SAs ask him questions and get approval on things (I don't know if it's approval on quota bags). So that may play a role in it. Here's the other thing, neither of my quota bags were planned. In other words, I didn't get a call or text from my SA saying I have something for you. I just happened to be in the store buying something else. I never gave him a wish list. HE asked ME what I liked and if I wanted a Kelly. Uh...yeah. Mind you, initially I had no interest in a Birkin or Kelly, only a Constance, which I still haven't been offered. We joked about the fact he forgot all about the Constance. But I've never gotten the impression I wouldn't get the bags I wanted with a little patience, which I have more of than money. Lol. So I'll chill until he surprises me again.

I commented that if RTW is so sought after why isn’t there a limit on the number of duplicate items one can purchase. He smiled and rolled his eyes giving me look. Of course my thinking was this client is purchasing to fast track for a QB? ‍♀️
Your "of course" is not all that clear. He might have thought you were talking about reseller behavior. Not sure how raising this notion with your SA helps you.

I've also heard of this happening to a YouTuber, it was before the pandemic, and she said she just walked into the Madison store one afternoon near closing time, asked if there were any B/Ks available, the SA (she never shopped consistently w/ one SA, just whoever was available) asked for her phone number, went away for a while, then came back and asked what specs she wanted, she walked out w/ a QB. She said at that point she was at 0.3-0.5 prespend.

Seriously! I started shopping at H 2yrs into the pandemic, it's absolutely the worst time to start. I feel like once we are a couple of years into the recession ratios are gonna drop off a cliff.
I'm not sure if we'll ever go back to pre-pandemic ratios. I suspect demand is always going to be very high, similar to luxury watches even when demand "drops", it'll just be a matter of 2x vs. 3 or 4x retail on the secondary market. H's main customer base is typically less affected by recessions. Oh and Chanel's relentless price increases is certainly not helping either.  I hope I'm wrong tho!
