I ride dressage, where prices are (generally, outside of top international contenders) more reasonable - but any horse has to eat. I laugh when people say that a bag must not be real if the person wearing it doesn’t wear expensive clothes or drive an expensive car - my Porsche sits in a field and eats grass  and a pair of breeches can be $400 only to get arena dirt and slobber on them!
Surprised to hear the dressage market hasn’t gone crazy during this pandemic. The hunter/jumper market is still way over inflated and needs to come down. Perhaps it will like in 2008 and 2000. Owning and showing these days has become very expensive. Most of the h/j people I know would rather spend the money showing or on their horse than buy a qb or an expensive car.
Yes sad isn’t it?

This is a little scary now…
I’m considering in a few years time, when my daughter can be trusted a bit more, to get her a pony/ horse…
Well, I can’t say it’s a bad thing. I fell in love with horses when I was 8, and I’ve been riding ever since.

a good quality horse is expensive but worth the price. And of course, with all things there is a continuum - you can own a fast car without owning a formula one team:biggrin:

To be honest I am falling in love with horses as well
Even just looking at my daughter riding her riding school pony is therapeutic
And ironically… a high level horse she can’t control might just end up killing her :whut:

While possible, it’s unlikely - I don’t own jumpers but I used to ride 3 day event horses and all of mine have been very safe.

I love watching little girls fall in love with ponies. My personal trainer’s daughter is 5 and just started riding and it makes my heart want to burst. I love what horses have added to my life

It sounds like you’re in the uk? I don’t think it’s as crazy expensive there as the us but I’ll let others from there speak on this. I’ve owned, showed and been around horse for 40+ Years mainly hunters and jumpers. I have had horses show at wihs and up and down the east coast. A safe starter pony that is for pleasure will not cost an arm and leg. Where it gets expensive is the showing but also the level of showing. Here you can do local or rated shows but there are different levels of rated shows. The horses competing in palm beach at wef and placing will easily set one back into the low to mid six figures at least but most people don’t spend that much or show there. A safe reliable pony that jumps is probably priced around 20k usd

know ratio doesn’t really matter but my biggest fear at this point is my SA thinks that I would buy regardless if they offer me a bag or not because whenever I see something I like I just buy. I really do want to continue my journey as there’s still a few items I really want but also don’t want to feel like I’m not appreciated or valued as a client? Correct me if I’m wrong (any opinions and advice is greatly appreciated )and my last visit he was very pushy which has never happened/ emails has gotten really stale recently. should we switch or wait it out some more? He also mentioned that I haven’t been with him long enough for him to try to get me a bag when I asked the first time which was also the only time I’ve ever asked (I started my journey 6 months ago)

I tend to try to make it easy for my SA because I can see how hectic and tiring it can get. I make sure he only grabs something I’m 100% sure about so I don’t waste his time
Hi,

I think ratio and relationship both matter though it may vary depending on location

I would not buy anything if I did not feel appreciated or I felt pushed into something or pressured. Having said that, I also buy what I like regardless of QB.

I would be seriously ticked off if I was a serious high spending client in good faith for 6 months, and my SA said I was too new to even try to request a bag. But, this may vary depending on your geographic location. It could be possible he was being honest, but the fact he was pushy and also made you feel unappreciated makes me question his good faith, IDK)

in my location (a US flagship) i know of situations where clients have switched SAs without adversely affecting their QB allocations, but they are relative high spenders and do it in a gradual (and tactful way). What mattered in the end was loyalty to the store

JMO, and I wish you the best of luck resolving this!
