Spend threshold for B/K/C

There is a lot of noise on the internet (youtube/tiktok,etc.) that buying in the shoe category is the least helpful for building prespend toward a QB. The thing is, I really enjoy H shoes. Of all of the designer shoes I've collected, I find that they hold up the best and are the most versatile. Will it really hurt my chances toward a QB or will I have to spend a lot more in general if the vast majority (say 55%+) of my spend is in shoes with belts as my next most weighted category?

I know that the general advice is to diversify your spending across metiers, but I don't much care for the FJ (prefer Cartier tbh) and while I like some of the RTW I'm often finding the pieces I actually want for 50% or less on TRR.
After RTW, I probably buy shoes the most and I've gotten several QBs and an SO from my SA. I have only bought one item from the homewares selection. Not a huge spender at all. So if shoes is what you like, go for it!

Girl, didn’t you buy a diamond pave Kelly bangle? I think that probably helped.

Leather is the carrot, the rest of the store is the hike.
This makes sense. I went on vacation once and asked about SLGs/non quota bags and they said none for sale. Which is fine, I just wanted a pastel colored calvi. When I am on vacation, I just browse other H stores but that's it. I keep my spend to my SA at my store, I don't have THAT much disposable income and my SA knows what I like. I also try to just buy what's in store (I like instant gratification) and I have no returns/no exchanges. That is how I meet my B/K thresholds.

Sorry, I'm speaking of within the US. There is no such one per season rule in the US.

I’ve been told there is no waiting period by my local (US) SA. My FSH SA (who has offered 2QB annually, hasn’t had a problem either, but she said clients who expect QBs at every trip may be disappointed in 2025).

I don’t have an issue saying no to my SA if something doesn’t fit or doesn’t work. If your SA isn’t hearing you, then perhaps this isn’t the right one for you

Manager in corporate mentioned one QB per season, and that was a few weeks ago.

Chiming in a little late on this topic, but wanted to add my data point -- I have gotten QBs in quick-ish succession of ~4 months, as well as much longer, currently going on my 8th month since my last offer.

I've also heard it is based on seasons, which I just take to mean roughly first half of the year vs. 2nd half. :shrugs:

I have a crazy theory in my mind. I haven’t been shopping Hermes consistently for that long but does anyone have experience buying H during a recession (2008-2009) ? I’m wishfully thinking that the spend thresholds would be lower during this time period since less of the population would be luxury shopping. The elites will still shop but I’ve noticed since the new year that my home store hasn’t been busy, there are no crazy lines ups or wait times and I could get used to this :)

Welp- I think we’re gonna find out pretty soon 😳

Yes to 2008-2009. There didn’t seem to be spend thresholds as such back then ( though my budget was far more limited, so this wasn’t really an issue for me). If I recall correctly, bags were more readily available for purchase. When I bought my first boutique B (it was for my cousin and my SA knew that). I was primarily a CSGM shopper and not a large spender. My SA said she couldn’t guarantee when the bag would come in, but it only took a couple of weeks. In 2023, my SA said that back then, it was a clients loyalty and love of the brand that counted; the implication being that it wasn’t necessary for huge spend.

During Covid was another time when there were also far more available stock of QBs (resale and boutique). I focused on acquiring heritage leather QBs at resale, and I got some amazing deals. For 2025, it’s my theory that Hermes is counting on its top 1% to continue to purchase globally during this rocky time. I read somewhere, post covid, the top 1% of clients accounted for 60% plus of revenue for Chanel, Hermes et al, and I think this will only increase.

ETA: With everything going on in the world, I haven’t been in the mood to shop. But, this year, many of my friends have continued, and I don’t think that will change.

ETA: Post Covid, with steeply rising prices, my Chanel SA told me that her clients still shop. Higher prices meant that they bought less, but the USD amounts that they spend didn’t decrease. I assume this is the same for Hermes clients with the added incentive of coveted QBs.

My friend heard from her Madison SA that it is significantly slower this year compared to the same period in the past couple of years.

I think there was also all the hoohah post Covid - some people hadn’t traveled for a long time and had saved a lot of money by staying home.

Many friends plan to spend less this year. We also plan to spend less, but we had decided that before what just happened this week. There are just so many boxes around of new items from the past few years we never touched, so we should start using that.

I noticed this strong uptick in offers lately on posts and also of online bag drops. They’ve been huge and very frequent in the US and Europe. I am also surprised they are having a sale in NJ just a few months after the NY sale, and that H invited a lot of the same customers.

On another note, I was at CinemaCon the past few days, and there are amazing movies coming out this year if it helps cheer anyone up! ❤️🙏

I looked up some old receipts from that period. Birkins and Kellys were for sale in display cases to walk in clients. I didn’t have an H SA then and was not interested in anything but bags. I walked into the Madison store with no prior history in 2007, asked to see a bbk 28 in one of the cases, was shown the Kelly without the SA having to check with anyone first, and I walked out with that Kelly an hour later. I think the only rule was you could only buy one quota bag per month. My next purchase a few months later in 2008 was a b30 in cafe clemence. That birkin was also out of one of the display cases. I miss those good old days lol. So my first 2 purchases from H were a Kelly and a birkin. They didn’t look up my client history or try to get me to buy anything else. Whatever was in the cases was for sale to anyone who walked in. There was none of this for display only nonsense in those days.

From what I've heard sales are a bit down this year, but that's not translating into more QBs for everybody. Because for a lot of stores the amount of QBs an SA gets allocated is directly tied to their sales numbers.

Personally I'm planning to slow down this year, mostly due lack of exciting offers lately and the massive price increases RTW seems to have had for the upcoming season.

I’m looking for some moral support…I’m feeling like there isn’t much hope of getting a B30 offer. I’ve been working with one SA at my local boutique since December and have spent about $10k. I go in about once a month. I think we have a good relationship but it’s not like we have bonded or anything. Probably doesn’t matter but I’ve been shopping at H since 2022. I shouldn’t lose hope right? Any stories out there of someone getting an offer at about this point?

Unfortunately if your spend is $10k total since 2022 it’s just not competitive enough for a bag offer. Typically one should expect to spend at least $15k in under one year for a B30 offer. It’s still possible but simply not likely. I’d try to find enough other items you love to get to at least $15k over the last twelve months and then have a conversation with your SA about your chances. Good luck!

ETA- perhaps I misunderstood and it’s been $10k with this one SA since December? If that’s the case, I would try to spend another $5k and give it another few months. Both time of the relationship and spend matter and 3-4 months with a lower end spend is going to be difficult. 6-9 months with $15-20k spend is a much more reasonable expectation for a B30.
