I have a dumb question… it sounds like when most people say 1:x here they mean 1=10k vs the 1x the price of the bag, is that right?

If so, is the 10k pretax spend or total spend (I.e. including tax)?

Also hoping of the seasoned experts like @acrowcounted wouldn’t mind confirming - SLGs like snap wallet or calvi card holders etc do not count towards prespend? Or is it just certain slgs?

(Sorry I am not tech savvy/good at navigating the threads so please feel free to move or delete if this is OT!)

Based on what I’ve observed, the US based ones say 5X as in 50K pretax while the Asians and Europeans refer to literal spend ratio i.e. actual prespend minus leather bags is to the cost of the QB.

It isn’t a dumb question. It could be confusing. I was recently surprised that to some x = 10k.

I personally always mean “x” to be the price of the bag before tax. It could just be me, but it’s what makes sense to me. If X = 10k, why not simply state 10k, 20k?

I’ve been reading this forum for years. I think it’s hard to say X is $10k to “most” people, as it wouldn’t make sense half the time. For example. the ratio often mentioned for mini k is 3.5:1 to 5:1. is it more likely to be 50k or 5 times price of the bag? Or when a non QB bag is mentioned to be 1:1, other than a Constance, I find it hard to believe “X” is 10k. So on and so forth.

Agree, esp. as time goes by this formula becomes less accurate . ..

But, I do use X= 10K = price of a bag, bc I delude myself that the prices of bags haven’t risen as much as they have lol

ETA: In my experience only, no SA, except perhaps in Asia, discusses prespend this directly or at all. In Europe, my FSH SA has always insisted prespend does not matter, and historically, I’ve been exceedingly fortunate to have gotten 25QB offers twice annually with minimal spend. I do not assume this will go on every time or indefinitely, and it seems experiences differ greatly on this issue. So, of course, if one’s SA says differently, I’d always advise going with your SAs advice. :)

Hi miss Mitzi and the op to this question ... I was understanding yes x equals 10 k ..this was confirmed by the sa but this is in Paris not USA ..ps the sa did mention February there is a price increase...

It’s pre tax. The company doesn’t keep the sales tax so therefore that is not counted in their sales numbers.

IMO, this ratio stuff started back when most size 25 bags were in the 9500-10300 range so simplifying to a base of 10k was easy and made sense. I don’t know why people are so reluctant to give actual dollar amounts for things (especially prices!!) but I assume that fed into the use of base 10 as well. Also, putting an exact figure makes it feel more like hitting an exact number was a triggering event and we should all be clear by now on the fact that there are no triggering prespend gates (in the US. Well, barring for the top tier Himalayan class bags where there definitely are hard set “no less than x spend” numbers). So I’m personally okay with base 10 and it’s what I use just because it doesn’t actually matter. 20k spend vs 25k spend both just tell you that if you’re sitting at 10k spend, you need to spend more. At the point of 20k spend vs 25k, it’s usually less about exact spend and more about availability.

Thanks everyone for your replies and insights! I always thought it was 1x price of the bag until I started reading on here, but what you’re saying totally makes sense (esp re simplifying based on the previous bag prices). I never really kept track (probably because I don’t want to know the actual number 🙈😅) but DH has been reading Reddit a bit too much and now wants to know… uh oh

Reseller prices seem to be around 2-3X for coveted sizes. Which seems like less than starting a relationship from scratch. . .
Whether to go that route also depends on if you love boutique merchandise. . . There is something to be said for getting exactly what you want when you want it. Of course, authenticate prior to purchase via photos (@bababebi or other) and pay via PayPal backed by cc, not bank wire. Make sure your seller is reputable ( I prefer to buy from well established businesses, not individuals, or instagram / facebook sources); well reviewed; and accepts returns (TRR does not). I buy mainly boutique these days, but I have also bought plenty of well priced reseller.

Totally agree - some of the numbers referenced make the reseller prices seem very reasonable and you’d get exactly what you want. I am lucky to have a SA who has been amazing in the years we’ve been working together, so DH knows it’s not the numbers he’s reading on Reddit and doesn’t matter at the end of the day but was curious

Not sure if this better belongs in "Maintaining an H Relationship," but how do you balance buying non-QBs with your desire for QBs? And how many non-QBs do folks tend to buy a year if you also hope to get a QB?

I am just a total sucker for bags. I am still relatively new to shopping at H and love diversity in styles, but also want to grow my collection of QBs. My SA tends to offer me a non-QB almost every visit, which I love as I don't really have a wishlist and it's fun to see what gets brought out. My issue is I have such a hard time saying no as I genuinely want almost every bag I am shown. I feel like because of this I am on perpetual "bag cool down." Maybe that doesn't actually exist, but if I get a bag one month, I don't particularly expect to get another offer for that month, QB or non-QB.

Now that it is nearing year end, I am still waiting on my first QB offer for the year with a rather high spend since my last QB, but this is both for leather spend and spend excluding leather. I've gotten some amazing non-QBs this year so it's not like I'm at a shortage of bags, but I do hope to get a QB this year still. I'm hoping over time this will naturally become less of an issue given there is a limit on styles I like (I think and hope this is the case anyway!), but I'm wondering to what extent the non-QBs are hurting me if I still have a healthy spend outside leather.

Appreciate everyone's thoughts 🙏🏻

At this time, getting lots of non QBs will slow you down in getting a QB. Lots of people are waiting for a bag so if you got some bags, it can delay the QB.

I don’t know what kind of shopper you are but for me, at a certain point I had enough variety that my bag wants are very few. At one point I got the max quantity for QB and non QB every year but eventually the novelty wore off and I had more than enough. I don’t want any non QBs at this time and my QB wants are limited. I have turned down offers but I have also waited a really long time for a bag I really want but it’s a thrill to get the perfect item after waiting a very long time. If what you really want is a QB then consider holding off on more non QBs unless you really want it and focus on getting what you really want.

Can you not ask your sa ,these questions as experiences and what other people say their sa tell them are differing on their own circumstances?

I don't have a SA prior to just this week to getting a qb BUT I did ask questions to the leather SA and leather sm who got my qb regarding my prespend what and when I can get qb wise and other questions people and I commonly think to ask..

This again varies to your likes , spending etc and the sa would know this directly
