I don't have a Speedy (yet) but I own a vintage Ralph Lauren Polo Blackwatch Boston bag (similar to the Speedy) and I tend to leave the zipper open (much to my dad's dismay). I just find it more convenient. Nowhere as open as a tote like the Neverfull is but still having the option to fully close the zip. I also tend to carry my bags in the crook of my arm or in hand so maybe that plays a part as well.

Always zip mine! My girlfriend had her sarah wallet taken out of her speedy 25 about 5 years ago! We still haven't figured out how it happened. My SA it should always be zipped to protect the bag.
