If you choose to have the bag authenticated, I would suggest using Bababebi. I think it would be fast, and I think the authentication thread covers only pending auctions or sales, and not completed sales (unless I am reading it wrong):

"We will not authenticate for those who post photos only and cannot provide a link to a live online auction/sale."

Return it, it sounds like a fake to be honest. Never heard of anything like that happening. Also, going against the group: If you keep it, get it authenticated in person. There are some issues with having a bag authenticated solely from online photos. Very good replicas cannot be authenticated unless an expert has it in front of them. There's an authentication service in NYC, iirc. Don't recall the name off hand but they are supposed to be the best in the industry. Yes, it will cost time and money to mail the bag off and pay to have it shipped back, but if it's a fake and fooled TRR, it's gonna fool the experts on here and at Bababebi.

Lulilu is correct - we will not authenticate purchased items.

And not commenting on the bag in question, but Bababebi is the best in the business - bar none. Haven't known her to be "fooled" yet. And yes indeed but bags CAN be authenticated from photos. Maybe you just haven't found the best/right authenticators.

For me, no question I would return. For this price point, I'd never accept such a defect. Who knows what else this bag has been through or what else is going to fall apart. No way I would take that risk.

p.s. even if you get a great deal on the bag, taking bag to spa is not a quick process. Be prepared to wait months...

+1
A while back I bought a vintage bag from a reseller (not TRR), after wonderful Bababebi authenticated it. I have no doubt that it was an authentic Hermes bag, but the lining had been replaced (and not by H!) which was impossible to detect from the photos. I returned it to save the grief of it possibly being rejected for spa service (which would have been imminent since the turnlock was loose, also impossible to determine from the photos).

I don’t own any H handbag but from your post I would return asap! It’s too much of a hassle and must certainly takes the joy of owning a H handbag and the cost maybe not worth it since you already having issue with this bag!

Thanks again, everyone! I needed some rational thoughts to counteract my emotional impulse, which was to keep the bag because it was my super dream bag, and I was celebrating a work accomplishment. It seemed perfect...until it wasn't.
So sorry. I can imagine your disappointment.
I agree with your decision to return the bag. You should not settle for less than what you expected.
Good luck moving forward and another bag will be around the corner!

TRR expert's authenticate their bags in person and they have been fooled many times with not good replicas ( I'm not commenting the bag in question)
