Hi Everyone,

So I purchased a raisin 35cm Birkin in chèvre from The Real Real. It arrived today. As I was just unwrapping it, one pontet fell off. I called immediately and the CSR was friendly enough and said that TRR would refund the cost of the repair or accept the return. I asked for a refund for part of the purchase price if I keep the bag, and am waiting to hear how much they are willing to refund. I've never had to repair one of my Hermes bags, and am not sure if I want to drive 2 hours to the nearest store and be without my Birkin for potentially a few months.

Would you accept the full refund, return the bag and buy a different one?
OR
accept some money back and take to the Hermes store?
OR
accept some money back and take to local handbag repair to reattach the pontet? It seems like a simple repair, but what do I know.

Have you heard of the pontet popping off so easily? II do like the bag.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I can’t speak directly about the pontet falling off as I’ve never seen that. I can say that the H fell off my Bearn wallet and sent it in for repair. Plastic on hardware not so strange there’s even a few threads debating on or off. If you like the bag then I would find how much for the repair and request a refund for that include mailing as well.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for your replies. It's helpful to know that some keep the plastic on. I've never been one of those people . I am still waiting to hear from the CSR. I'll share what she says and make a decision from there.

Edited: As above. PT

If I keep it, I will probably get it authenticated. It feels so much lighter than my Jypsiere, but that bag has a heavier leather, strap and hardware.
Good luck! Keep us updated! The bag itself is gorgeous.:heart::heart:

I would return the bag and get a refund.

I have a raisin Birkin, too. Gorgeous color, especially in chevre. In my 20+ years of collecting, I have neither gone the reseller route nor have I experienced things falling off my Hermes bags...**knock on wood** So, given my experiences with H bags, I would feel uneasy keeping your bag after this incident. My reason: exactly what HKsai posted above. If you keep it and send it for repairs, you run the risk of confiscation if the bag is a fake. Are you willing to take that gamble? I'm not sure you are comfortable keeping this bag or you would not be here asking for opinions. Why not return the bag and let The RealReal fix it? Let them shoulder the burden and if you are able to re-purchase it after they correct the issue then it was meant to be. You've spent too much money to have ANY doubts about this bag.

I personally would absolutely return it to TRR. Get your money back and wait for a bag that is perfect for you. I have never seen or heard of this happening to anyone’s bag. It would make me very uncomfortable. I am fine with buying pre-loved but not with this kind of defect.

Good Luck. I hope you get an outcome you are happy with.
