^ ok I measured mine & this is what I got:
Plume 28 drop: 5"
Plume 32 drop: 7.5"
HTH!
Hi buttonmushroom,
I believe the 28 handles wouldn't fit over anyone's shoulder. The 32 handles do, unless one is large. I can measure mine & get back to you shortly! Nevertheless, I wouldn't consider the Plume the most convenient for you if it's only shoulder bags you can use - only because hands free typically pairs with scant time to undo zippers??

Hmm...the drop sounds fine but now that you mentioned it, the depth of the bag might be the problem even if I can fit the handles over the shoulder. I can't do hand carry only bags (will struggle with my things) so maybe plume is not a good idea even though I like the clean cut look  But will think about it...and thanks so much for measuring!

The depth actually hasn't been a problem as the bag tends to collapse inward when worn on the shoulder, even when stuffed full it feels surprisingly comfortable. I wear mine unzipped at all times with a scarf on top for secure but easy access :)

Thank you! Guess 28 is out of question unless I'm prepared to purely hand carry it which I honestly doubt so (love cross body types the best :p)

Oh, I thought the outer handle might slip off due to the depth...but you make it sound manageable  Would yours be boxcalf?

Hello Ladies! This is my first posting on an Hermes forum, I am usually reviewing the Christian Loubouting threads. I recently came upon a Plume Elan 28 on a resale site and fell in love. I have been aware of Kelly's, Birkins, Lindys, but I am big on smaller bags. So between the size, weight, hefty price tags, and the fact that I am a rather low key under the radar type person, I have never seriously considered Hermes. Until I found the Plume! Keeping in mind, this bag is used (2002 era), and has been re-dyed, it is STILL an Hermes and in good shape. The price is so very good at $500. I believe the bag was originally a light violet or Rose dragee color, and I the re-dye seems to be very similar to the original. In your very expert opinions, should I "go for it" or wait and save for a bag that has not been dyed??? I have so many questions, but I will start here. Than you all very much for your time and opinions! ❤️

I would wait (that's just me). $500. seems very low for a Plume. Even on the resale site. What really cautions me is the re-dye.
You should be able to find one to your liking soon. It probably will cost more

I have a 28 Box Plume. I have not measured the strap drop. The bag fits comfortably over my shoulder. I am 5'4" and do not carry much in my bag.

If you love it then get it. I've never seen a Plume for that price before. Be sure to get it authenticated first though and also be aware that it will not be accepted for servicing at the boutique due to it having been dyed by an outside party. This will in turn affect its resale value. If these things don't matter to you then I say go for it.

I'll go against the grain and say that $500 is a fair price for a re-dyed Plume Elan that can't be serviced at Hermes anymore. A Rose Dragee Elan is a lovely feminine dainty bag if that is what you are looking for.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help. I have the bag on layaway until May, so I have plenty of time to research, think, and look around! :-)

Thank you for the information! Being new to Hermes I was unaware of their bag services. Definitely more information for me to consider! I was able to physically handle and inspect the bag, and I (fully aware that I am not an expert), do believe that it is authentic. Thankfully I have over a month left on my layaway, plenty of time to research and make an informed decision. Thank you very much for your help!

It really is feminine and dainty, surprisingly so! It is the first one that I have seen IRL. From the description and photos, I was envisioning it to be a bit larger, and the pink makes it more dainty. I am a big fan of small, structured styles, and do not gravitate toward large, bold, or obvious bags. The style of this bag fits the bill, however pretty the pink is, I am not much of a pink person. The fact that it has already been redyed, emboldens me to the possibility of a redye (darker?) in the future. Is that a HUGE faux pas in the world of Hermes??? :-o

Since the bag is already dyed, there's nothing stopping you from changing it to a dark color in the future, as long as the leather underneath is in good condition. You may find that the pale pink dye (or is it paint?) darkens, peels or yellows with use, and the only recourse is to strip the old color off and dye it black. It's been done to old, beat up Hermes bags before, and for $500, it's certainly worth a try with this bag.

I am not sure if it is dye or paint. Is there a way to visually differentiate between the two? If it is painted, would it still be viable to strip and re-dye?
