Should i let my Chanel go for a Balenciaga?

I know its really hard, I sold a Navy Chanel Flap at a loss a couple of years ago and its something I have always regretted.
I love my BBags, but they are no where near as luxurious as a Chanel.
The thing to remember is you are not always going to want/need a child friendly bag, and you will probably be investing a good majority of money in your family.
But if you really dont feel the love for your Chanel Flap, it may be wise to sell it, but its a really hard choice, as Chanel prices are just going up and up. It isnt too hard to find a black, trendy leather Mummy friendly bag, but its another thing being able to afford another Chanel if the bug ever bites you again.
Its might also be an achieveable dream to save really hard for approx £1200 for a Balenciaga, but nearly impossible to save approx £3000 for a Chanel Flap.
I pray that the Chanel bug does not bite me again if i do decide to sell my Chanel flap! I will be pounding my head on the wall if it does and regretting it so bad. I will never go on the Chanel forum again after that, just so that i dont get tempted with all the gorgeous Chanel reveals on here lol!

I would not sell a classic jumbo bag for a Balenciaga, even the Bal bags are very pretty as well. You would probably take a loss and should also think about how much cash you will need to put on the table to purchase another jumbo in the future. Just MHO.

Wear your jumbo. Why are you hesitating? It is such versatile bag!

I sold my Chanel Matte Black Reissue Camera bag to fund 2 Balenciagas, but I still have 3 other Chanels in my collection. I think since you only have one Chanel, I wouldn't let that go since its so classic.

But on the other hand, Balenciaga will be discontinuing rose gold giant hardware this season and will come out with smaller giant hardware next season, so If you really want this seasons 'giant' hardware, I would sell the Chanel. Maybe you'd be even able to get 2 Balenciagas from selling the Chanel.
Oh really?? I didnt know they were discontinuing the giant hardware. Was it not as popular as the regular hardware? What do you prefer?

I used to be the same way and it was so hard for me to let go of bags that I did not use. Now I have an easier time letting go of something that I don't use...Especially when I am selling to use the funds towards another HG bag. If the bag is just sitting in the closet then I would say sell it and get something you will use. Its a waste to have such a pricey bag just sitting in the closet.

LOL, I know what you mean.
Dont get me wrong I love my BBags, I have 2 Citys (and my name down for another!) and a clutch.
I also have 2 Chanel Flaps.
The Balenciagas seem to suit my lifestyle so well, and I love them, functional and edgy, and I find that recently I feel the need for shoulder bags again.
I am not saying dont sell your Chanel, just be a little mindfull that you may not achieve a great price for your it, and well basically, when its gone , its gone!
If you are happy to sell then great, BBags do seem to age well, and mine are turning into the silky leather I always wanted.

I just think the Balenciaga would be a little more practical for me since im always dressed down so it would fit my style better than the Chanel. Its also more roomy, but i dont know, its a hard decision. I definately will not buy another flap if i get rid of this one, cant afford it.:smile1:

I can't say they're totally discontinuing it but the giant hardware will significantly reduce in size. So if you want those large thimbles, F/W 11 is the last season to get it. I definitely prefer the current giant hardware, I just bought one a F/W 11 bag last week, because I love the bling of giant hardware~. Not sure if I can get used to a small GH bag. :(

I'm a mum with a very active, and I mean active boy- so I hardly ver get to wear my Chanel flaps. M Balenciaga, has served me well and I've had it nearly 2 years and remains one of my most worn bags; I find it trendy, versatile and a very suitable bag as a mum.
That being said, I would never sell my flap- as much as I see your point in selling your jumbo for a bag you'd get more use out of, I'd be kicking myself afterwards as Chanel prices keep on rising. My advice would be to keep the jumbo. Its very likely after a while, once your kids are older you may regret selling the jumbo and by then they will cost about $10k! (and I don't think I'm joking). I know you may be lusting after the Balenciaga, but look at it as an investment peice- which bag will serve you better over the years?

Your so right. The flap will cost about 10k with all these price increases!

I have two Balenciagas & would not sell them but I wouldn't sell your classic flap either because there always going up in price so in a few years time when your children are older would you be able to replace your Chanel, maybe you could try & save for the Bal.
