I was told by her that the other pair I had appraised were 1920s vintage. They LOOK Edwardian, but the stones are not in keeping with the 1920s. Now, I love the design and they checked out ok spec wise ... but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's a difference between buying repro and buying period jewellery and I always want to know the difference.

When I think of all the times I drooled over the "vintage" pieces she was selling and how sometimes I really, seriously considered trying to come up with the money to buy them, it makes me a little sick. I can only imagine what you must feel, having found out an item that was sold to you as vintage/antique is really a repro. I have no problem with repros, but the price and info should reflect that. I'm so sorry.

Well her website has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee http://www.futurefashionista.com/rewhyyoushbu.html

So those that found out the items aren't as quoted, I'd address elana in a certified letter stating you would like a refund/return. Maybe even have a lawyer draft it for you.
I really think she needs to be accountable. It's horrible to take money and send inferior goods.

I almost made my husband buy me some of her small diamond hoops and he was really considering it. After thinking it over, he said no and I was upset. His reasoning was that she could be anybody and even with all the good feedback she had, he just didn't feel comfortable.

I agree with Alliemia. Whoever bought something from her and was unhappy, definitely contact her by certified letter. If it had been me, I would not stop trying to get a hold of her anyway I could until I had some answers. I would consider contacting her husband. Isn't her business a division of her parent's jewelry business? I thought I read that somewhere.

Replacement value isn't the kind of appraisal gga got. She got a wholesale appraisal. Replacement value is always high I think.

You're thinking of appraisal for insurance, which typically values at three times the purchase price, based on the assumption that you won't be buying another one in the immediate future, so there is time for some appreciation of the item.

My jeweller knows what I paid, and I asked for a replacement value if I had to go out and get the same item today. He and I think the price I paid was fair. But the most important thing to me was the specs - and they were accurate.

Not only that, contact the Wisconsin State Attorney General's office as they will open an investigation. People probably will not get their money back, but, Elana will be made to answer for herself, and, depending upon what is reveiled...

I have read this whole thread and I am as shocked and surprised as both GGA and MISTIKAT with the whole thing. Especially knowing her a little as the three of us do.....

I purchased a pair of Tahitian earrings from her last year and while the pearls themselves are just fine I had to do some "clean up" work on the glue that held the posts to the pearls...if all I have to complain about is shoddy workmanship then I feel myself a very lucky gal.

GGA.....I am SO sorry this happened to you. I remember quite clearly how happy you were to receive your items....are you sure you have no recourse?

I'd recommend contacting your credit card. Even if you think it's been too long, they cover fraud and lying about custom made hoops and they are made in china crap is fraud, IMO.

And just wondering, why did everyone trust her at face value and not get the high price items appraised after purchase. Future fashionista is hardly a well known site. I only heard of her on here, I wouldn't send her thousands.

So sorry for those who got burned.

Honestly if I had bouhgt from her I don't think I would have gotten it appraised. That's just not something I do with jewelry - unless it;s got a high value like my engagement ring. (but anything under $1000 I wouldn;t have gotten appraised)
But I am not a jewelry gal -- those in the know would think to do that. Not I ;)

After all the glowing reports here and the blogs about her I would have trusted that she had amazing products and she was the bomb.

I almost bought a diamond tennis bracelet from her.SHe actually sent me one to look at.I took it to my jeweler to see if it could be resized(i have tiny wrists) and they said it was VERY rough...not well made at all.So i sent it back.PHEW!

I agree. I considered buying earrings from her once, SO glad I didn't. Although I DID try not long ago to buy a pair of pearl earrings from her but she never responded to any of my emails.

Like many others Megs and I believed her to be an upstanding jeweler. We did post about FF on PurseBlog.com in the past but have now removed any references to her site. Clearly we do not want to associate ourselves with or point our readers to what seems to be an untruthful business.

If you need any assistance from us to track down any old posts (on the MP or otherwise) please let us know.

This is so sad and shocking reading.

I have bought to pair of earrings from FF and both arrived very quickly (the first pair, FW pearl studs, were wrong size but I got a new pair for free and they pearls were "upgraded" to Vietnamese Akoya pearls).

I am a bit nervous regarding my diamond studs but they came with GIA dossier reports. Those of you who have had your diamond jewellery appraised for a lower value than what you bought it for, did the diamonds come with GIA certificates or did you rely on the description given by Elana?

Also, as to the /support/futurefashionista.html page that some people dug up and are curious about, I would like to offer an explanation.

In July of 2006, Elana and Megan Casto of CastoCreations.com helped our forum out by making a few TPF-branded charms. They approached us, asked if they could make these charms and we agreed. A few people got them and the whole campaign laid dormant for a good 4 years. I was unaware the page was still around on our servers, so I removed them.

I am incredibly sorry for those who either ordered an item and never received it or bought something thinking it was one thing when it was completely something else. That is sickening and absolutely positively awful.

Japster/FutureFashionista had never advertised with us. However, we had posted a few posts about her on PurseBlog.com previously (which we now removed since we do not support her business). I bought a few things from Japster myself, however none of which were pearls or diamonds. I DID borrow jewelry for my wedding, which was then returned. Vlad and I also met Elana and her family once when she was in Florida.

Her dealings on our forum were similar to many other members here - she was able to have a business link (after 5 months, 500 posts) in her signature, and she listed things for sale in the private selling area. That has been something we allowed across the board, though we did not allow her to sell openly. I do believe she was active in a thread discussing pearl quality - clearly her discussing pearl knowledge would lead some people to believe her to be a good seller.

Elana also was friends with many members of this forum - I know many members had met her before and liked her as a friend/trusted her. That would also lead people to believe she had good business practice. Many of these friends were also the people who have been hit the hardest by this - finding out pieces they thought were one thing are something far inferior.

Myself and Vlad would NEVER knowingly post about a person/business/site if we ever knew them to be a scammer or untruthful. At the time of the few posts I made on PurseBlog (of the few posts 2 were in 2006, and 1 for my wedding accessories in 2009), I believed Elana to run a good business. I would never want to lead anyone astray.

We removed the link to Elana's store, we removed her from our private selling area, and she will be banned from our forum. The only reason she was not banned sooner was with the hope she would come to rectify some of what has happened.

I know many people either involved or just reading have questions. If you have any for Vlad or I, please feel free to post here or PM us.
