I have a fervent love affair with ethnic jewelry. I try to buy a piece of jewelry everywhere I travel. this piece is made up of antique beduoin beads. the colored inlay stones are (in order, left to right) amber, lapis, turquoise, and carnelian.

these next two bracelets are newer pieces from tibet...all handmade. tibetan jewelry primarily uses the following stones: yak bone (white), red coral, turquoise, and amber.

this first cuff is studded with red coral.

this cuff bracelet has three pieces of turquoise. I absolutely love turquoise. I consider it a neutral color; it goes with everything. and believe me, I wear it with EVERYTHING!!!

now for the antique tibetan pieces. these are my favorites of all of my ethnic jewelry.

you cannot imagine how thick the silver is on these pieces. they are all hand-carved inside and out. much of tibetan artwork features wildlife, and so does the jewelry.

this first piece is my favorite. antique, hand-worked heavy silver amber pendant with chinese turquoise and tigers eye. make sure to look at the BACK of the pendant...amazing.

Love this necklace:drool: I can see this with an amazing dress or summer outfit,or a bikini and a good tan :roflmfao: heehee...i'm the same way when I travel I try to collect jewelry...I feel like its the most practical souvenir. You wear it all the time and its not cliche, it's something you have forever and is a great conversation piece.

my second favorite, & frankly the most unbelievable of the silver work, is this antique tibetan cuff. the inside is heavily carved with all of the animals of the tibetan zodiac, so make sure to check it out. the outside features the standard tibetan stones of yak bone, turquoise, and red coral.

this bracelet is incredibly heavy, but worth every minute of wearing it. I get compliments/comments every time I wear it. I have had a few people offer to buy it from me for double, triple, etc what I paid...I'll never sell it!!!

now, this ring must have some kind of amazing story. you can tell from the pic of the back that it wasn't originally a ring. the band portion was soldered onto the top round piece. I have no idea what the top was originally, I am just thankful that it's mine!!!

this looks like re-constituted chinese turquoise to me. again, look at all of the animals carved into the silver.

I forgot to say at the beginning that I have included a US quarter coin in the photos for size perspective. I taped it to the top of the neck form. the quarter is sitting in front of the rings & bracelets.

Love this necklace:drool: I can see this with an amazing dress or summer outfit, shorts and a nice top...i'm the same way when I travel I try to collect jewelry...I feel like its the most practical souvenir. You wear it all the time and its not cliche, it's something you have forever and is a great conversation piece.

thank you so much!!! I wore it last week to a meeting. one of the ladies said "WOW" with bug eyes when she saw it, that's it!

ITA 1000%!!!

that necklace gets lots of wear year round. it looks amazing with black & brown during the fall/winter. I also enjoy wearing turquoise with purple...dark purple for fall/winter and lighter shades for spring/summer.

I love all of it actually especially those rings!! now I really want to come over and play with your jewelry haha we should have a jewelry party..i'll bring my jewel box and we'll just play lol. the turquoise is gorgeous! so did you do some traveling in Tibet?
and I too loove turquoise and purple...gorgeous together two of my favourite colours

I would LOVE to see some of your pieces collected from your travels!

I have been to china, but not to tibet...unfortunately...it's on my list. I realize that my earlier post was unclear. I bought turquoise & pearls when I went to china. the tibetan pieces came from a vendor that I have gotten to know through gem shows.

I just remembered another antique tibetan necklace that I should have taken pics of when I took these today. I'll have to shoot it tomorrow.

I have jewelry that I've purchased on trips to the caribbean, europe, hawaii, and the southwest US (native american...shoot, I need to take pics of that too). the beduoin beads were purchased on a trip to NC believe it or not...I stumbled upon an arts/crafts fair where the vendor had traveled extensively through the middle east and central asia. I also bought a lapis necklace from afghanistan from him.

I've only begun my list on where I want to travel to, I'm graduating after this semester. but i've picked up a few things in the caribbean, vegas, u.k...i'm doing some traveling to bali, indonesia, fiji, australia, and new zealand in november. so im hoping to pick some things up along the way...maybe some pearls:graucho::rolleyes: and whatever catches my eye lol and my BF is in the army and hes in afghanistan right now:sad: but he was in Dubai for a bit and he said he got me a present so im wondering what that could be!! dubai makes me think of only one thing....

F&f: AMAZING!!! :faint:

Really, I'm speechless!

Those Tibetan pieces are unbelievably beautiful! And those necklaces are stunning too!

Hmmm, I really want to start collecting jewelry now... :graucho:

You are an awesome source of inspiration!

F&F..I adore all of your jewlery...especially that turquoise bracelet! Here is a bracelet that I have yearned for for months. I never watch HSN (although my Mother is addicted), but just happened to be flipping the stations when I saw Paula Abdul on with her jewelry line. That was in December, I think. Anyway my Mom said she would buy the bracelet for me for Mother's Day....and then it sold out :( I went on the waitlist, and finally it arrivd last week. I love the mix of the leather and the vintagey rhinestones. First pic will be a stock photo, next a photo borowed from Ebay, next one on my wrist.
