I think you might want to find out what is missing in your earring collections. In my case, it was white-gold pave earrings. All my earrings were yellow gold(/pave). Sometimes, you have an occasion that you want to look dressy by wearing Black outfits & White gold pave earrings. I just thought they look stunning together.
Therefore, it was easy for me to eliminate yellow-gold pave combos to start off.
Now, yes. I was also interested in the yellow-sapphire as well. I think they are very unique and beautiful. Unfortunately, the only earrings available when I went to was the white-gold pave.
My sales associate said yellow won’t show well on my skin tone. I agreed on her. Plus, white gold pave was just sooooo beautiful and I did not even feel like I need to try the yellow. They pop on my face like lightning with my black outfit- hahaha
I think though, I want to try yellow-sapphire rings in the future for sure if I want a butterfly ring. The yellow-sapphire is easy to disappear near the hair but I think it will pop in a ring. I think I would still want the all diamonds version in the end…. maybe not?! The dilemma has already started! 😔
Another note is, I read on google sapphire’s color/sparkle doesn’t last forever like diamonds(is this true?!)
Lastly, I also tried Cosmos white-gold pave as well. The butterfly was the winner for me. I was also debating with white pave Frivole but I already own yellow pave. If you have white-gold pave earrings that you love then I think you should get Yellow one
. Yellow sapphire will look the best with floral/feminine outfits with yellow color insert. Yeah, I think Yellow will limit outfits. I read here that if you buy different colored earrings vca allows you to order a single earring to match one of the sides. However, my SA said no. If you can do this, it would be great.

I tried on the lapiz last November but I prefer turquoise personally. I purchased the turquoise butterfly necklace and told my SA to put me on the list for the YG and turquoise earrings. Now I made a ridiculous amount of purchases in November and December at VCA and after my SA contacted me letting me know he has the earrings. I told him I had to take a little breather before purchasing. Now I find myself a little on the fence as I think the earrings are absolutely gorgeous but one side is turquoise and one side is all diamonds and the price seems extremely high for not having both sides with diamonds. In November I purchased the pave YG earrings and that was cheaper than the turquoise butterfly. I am really on the fence now whether I should pull the trigger. I love the white gold butterfly earrings but I am YG girl and I am not really into the pink sapphire. Agree. I also compared the butterfly pave to Frivole pave. They are in the almost same size and both look equally pretty. Is it worth spending extra $18k for the butterfly?
Plus, it was white gold. All my vca has been yellow gold because I was afraid of white gold loosing rhodium plate over time. It bothers ME. I see the worn white gold pieces are not as shiny like the first time. I can tell for sure. I love to keep things like new and I’m diligent about cleaning diamond jewelry regularly. One reason I don’t buy stone/diamond together type of vca jewelry. I need jewelry to be safe to clean home.
Why did I buy the White gold this time? I wanted something ‘special’ and not too much of the evening look at the same time. I was able to change my mind because I knew that I am not gonna wear the White butterfly as often as other yellow gold ones. Therefore, the rhodium plate will last longer. It took me few years to come to this conclusion 😅 I think White gold is such a beauty for some occasions/outfits which yellow can’t give out.
I thought about why is the butterfly a lot more? 1) the marquis cut diamonds 2) mechanism of the back 3) maybe harder to make butterfly shape. Explanations are below.
1) the two marquis cut is quite small but still bigger than tiny paves. 2) I included photo. You will see the back has extended butterfly shape piece. It may add up to the price. 3) unlike Frivole the wings of butterfly are not in one piece. Upper wings and lower wings are joined with the marquis cut diamond.
Both Lapis & Turquoise are pretty. I think vca has decided to keep their Turq/yellow & Lapis/yellow combo as higher price jewelry. We know they can’t be found in other collections anymore. That makes probably Turq/yellow MORE special I think. And they want us to pay extra for the special one. Is it worth for you?

I’m considering my next purchase and would love something in the butterfly in my collection. I’m RG girl and considering the pink sapphire pendant to go with my rg frivole pink sapphire earrings, but also considering rg mop earring and pendant set. I saw on another thread that you can get rg pave earring set or pink sapphire earring set. But after looking at the prices it doesn’t make sense to me either because the total carat weight of frivole is similar to butterfly but butterfly cost so much more. I’m in a dilemma on whether I will get anything butterfly other than a pendant. While I love how feminine and whimsical the butterfly is, I’m also wondering if the earrings would be something I would reach for in 10-20 years.
