The brown one I think is an 80,s fake bag, so please anyone thinking about bidding post it for the ladies on the authenticate this thread
Personally I would steer clear having been a victim of one of these in the past.

:smile1:

are you saying that not ONLY is wrecked - but is actually an 80's fake? because the description says 1950's - what on earth did they do to that bag:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

A v. sad looking White Clemence Birkin 30 with cracks on the leather:

**sigh**

Those are not cracks on the leather. They are cracks on the white resin....

I am SURE this can be handled with a serious service at Hermes. It could cost between $500 and $1000 but I think the bag will come back just fine. The only thing is to make sure the lambskin lining has no stains or dammage because Hermes will not clean the bag inside.

I can't believe some of these bags. Does anyone else agree that sometimes these items are NOT salvageable and they belong in the garbage? They had a nice run with some interesting history I'm sure, but come on. I think I would be afraid to touch some of these without rubber gloves on!

Wise thought ! I totally agree with you.

But sometimes you might be surprised...If the body of the bag is fine, if the upper sides are fine, then everything is possible. Handle and straps can be replaced by new ones. ( if the oroiginal color was not too latered by time) and the rest is about cleanning and polishing.

Best results when you ask Hermes to keep the original hardware , so the bag does not look like a patchwork .

I am talking about old Kellys...

I had this authenticated and is ok - but was advised not to bid on it as its mouldy

I cannot believe the condition of some of these bags! It's amazing what some people try to sell. Although, I must admit, some of the pieces are great vintage pieces that aren't in such bad shape. They'd be fun to carry and great for any H collector to have in their collection!
