To me it might make me more loyal to an SA but I definitely don't expect anything. But i wouldn't expect champagne. Things like hand written notes, Christmas cards ect go a long way with me to know I'm remembered and valued as a client. It's just a nice touch.

The hardcover cartier catalogues that they send out every couple of months are a nice touch too!

So so true. Discovering they remember those little things that you've told them or personal stories you've shared with them is also lovely, especially when you haven't spoken to them for a while.

Ironically, I read this thread a few days ago and was feeling cranky that I hadn't received anything from Cartier close to a year after having my husbands wedding ring shipped. He says we received a thank you note and a few other things around the purchase, but, apparently he squirreled them away or threw them out without showing me.

So, I get the mail today and lo and behold - a catalog! Now, if only they had crammed some perfume samples in there as well ;)

I don't understand this either. It wouldn't influence my purchase of jewellery, handbags, cars or anything else. I believe an SA can offer good service without necessarily offering anything for free. One of my very favourite SAs has never offered me champagne yet it doesn't change my opinion of them.

+1

I don't care either if they sent those things or not. I just want what I bought and that's it.

+1. The only time we got champagne was when my SO and I bought Love rings. We were surprised by the offer and a little taken aback because we weren't expecting it, but what the hell. I've purchased two Love bangles on separate occasions -- way more $$$ than rings -- and got bottled water and cleaning kits (without having to ask). I got big fancy packages of Cartier greeting cards in gorgeous opulent boxes, which was fancy but OTT. Who knows? And really, who cares?

I have built a relationship with my store, the sa's and management. I get the best service from Cartier! I just got a Christmas present of the special bottle Rose Champagne. I am far from a vip, but get treated like one.
I was just taken to dinner at my favorite restaurant last week by my 2 favorite Cartier sa's! It was so nice to be treated special and I love my store!
I am extremely loyal to them. Even though I can purchase tax free, I go there. The store is wonderful!
I can go in and not buy anything and get treated special and try on things I can never afford lol.

If you really want that level of service , my advice is be loyal and a build a relationship. Be friendly and nice. If you really love the brand , find a store you love. GL :)

Ok, so I am a bit late responding but here is my two cents.... I have received several gifts from Cartier in the past year and the extra's have been as follows:

nothing - (2 Love bracelets - RG and WG) Cartier @ Tysons Galleria (horrible customer service overall)

a book on the history of Cartier - (RG Ballon Bleu with diamonds) - Cartier @ Saks Flagship NYC

2 miniature bottles of champaign - (w/ R=WG 4 diamond Love bracelet) - Cartier @ Tysons Galleria

Honestly, I could care less about the extra's BUT I would have preferred cleaning cloth with bracelets. I had no idea they even had them until much later. *shrugs*

All of the items noted above were gifts. Personally, I would have never gone back after the first bad experience and apparently the Galleria is known for bad customer service. When I exchanged one of my bracelets I went to the Wisconsin Avenue (DC) location. My SO oddly went back the the Galleria this year because he (for some bizarre reason) LOVES shopping on Christmas Eve and was already in Virginia. He also once again noted rather rude behavior. I think we are done with Cartier.

I think it's a hit or miss based on what I have been hearing. I've shopped at tysons before and have had good service the few times I've been. I do prefer the DC store for its location and atmosphere ( not a big fan of malls). As for NYC, I prefer the location on Madison. It's so much more quiet then the one on 5th avenue. Overall, I would rate the European stores higher than American locations.
