I've heard other people express something along the lines of the "real women" comment and they haven't had the pressure of being compared to a man.
I don't think having a child qualifies womanhood but I understand the essence of what those people were trying to express, most of the time they don't mean to cause offense. They caught up in a moment and aren't thinking about how it might be interpreted. It happens to everyone, personally I don't find it a big deal.
