Just wondering why you took the bag to Rago? You should always go to Chanel. I heard that Rago was good too. They seem to be a nightmare. I would try to get an email or record what you say to them in a letter that is sent CERTIFIED. Because they have to sign for certified mail. THey cannot say that they didn't receive the letter. You can send before and after photos -- in the letter say -- Attachements enclosed. Enclose the photos are circle in red where the problems are. Then make a copy of letter and the photos you sent. Do this everytime you speak to them. You'll have a he said, she said in court if you have no email proof or no letters. So since you have the photos before and after, make sure you have letters or emails to prove that you have contacted them. This way if you go to court you're ready.
Short version: They keep leading me on, giving me false information. Long story short, I don't know what happened to my bag and I am moving away in less than 2 weeks.
The long details
I sent my Chanel flap bag to the Rago Brothers shop for a spa treatment if you will , got a call back for a quote and a time frame. Was told it should take a few weeks.
Me: Hello, I am calling to check on my bag.
- 3 weeks later, I called to check on the progress and was told they had to send the hard ware away to be re-plated and haven't gotten them back yet. They should get them back in a week and I should get my bag back a week after at the latest.
- 1 week later, " At my estimate, you should get your bag back next week". I told them I would be moving in a month so I just want to be sure I will get it back before or at least by then. "oh, for sure".
- 3 weeks later, the convo went like this
(name and item verified)
She: According to my record, your bag was already sent back to you.
Me: But I haven't received it. Can you tell me where it was sent to?
She: (somewhere I can't remember for sure but I think it was in Virginia).
Me: But I live in (a different state).
She: Please hold
(some other lady got on the phone): Your bag is done and will be sent out today.
Me: Hello, I was told my bag should have been sent 2 days ago, I just want to make sure.
- 2 days later,
She: My record shows your bag was sent back to you.
Me: Can you please give me a tracking number ? I am in the process of moving and would like to know when the bag is here because it needs to be signed for, right?
She: I don't know, did you ask for it to be signed for?
Me:Yes
She: Well, I don't have the info, so can you leave your number and I will call you right back with the tracking number.
Me: (gave my number). Thank you very much
I understand that repair takes time (2-3 months is standard). My problem is that I am moving to another state in less than 2 weeks. It's not like I can hang here to wait for it to arrive. I just wish they would just be honest with me instead of leading me on. With that, at least I can have them hold it until I am moved in to my new place, or something. But this? I don't know what to do.
- I haven't heard back yet
Did they send it to the wrong address or even sent it out at all? Do they still have it,or don't? Who knows
What Can I do?
i don't know why she went there, but i choose them too (and leather surgeons also) because when you take your bag to Chanel it's not as though Chanel is actually fixing it in their shop. they contract it out. in the US, they actually send it to leather surgeons (and likely many other contract shops), so you're technically cutting out the middle man and also some costs and time. the only major benefit is that Chanel would completely come good for the damage to a bag like this and - perhaps - if you go independently, the company won't.
Appreciate your input. Had I known, I wouldn't have sent my bag to them in the first place. I was fooled by their good reviews. At least this thread will help others from making the same mistake I hope.Yes but you can fight CHanel! If chanel ruins your bag they are responsible. You need to take very good photos of your bag at Chanel prior to giving it to them for proof. I would never give anyone the bag without taking good photos first, even Chanel. You can even do it right there at Chanels prior to giving it to them. Then if they ruin your bag, they have to replace it. With these other people, you're screwed. I had a jacket lost at Chanel. I was hysterical! I went to pick up a new jacket I was having tailored. I ended up being there for hours. They could not find my jacket for anything. I began yelling. They came up and said, "If we lost your jacket, do not worry. We will either replace it for the same value or give you something better. Or refund your money. Do not worry." With these people you may have to go to court. In the end, they put my jacket under the wrong name which was misspelled. It took them 2 hours to find it. THey apologized and told me never worry. If we lose something we will make it up to you. You can call Chanel corporate and fight with them. When you are dealing with a tiny company, you can get screwed. I don' t believe Chanel uses Rago brothers anyway. So sometimes penny wise and dollar foolish. I know CHanel, too, pulls a lot of nonsense. But I call corporate and complain. I brought in a $800, maybe now $1500 pin. The big camellia pin. One stone looked dark. I gave order NOT to change the stone unless necessary. No one knew what to do. If the stone was defective or not. They wanted $90 to change 1 stone. I said if it's just the shading, leave it alone and do not change it unless you speak to me. Long story short, I called and called. People were supposed to get back to me, 3 people left that were to call me, they changed the stone w/o my permission, charged me $90. I said I'm not paying. I went there brooch was the same. I called corp, filed a complaint, woman called me back apologized greatly. No charge, an apology and a free bottle of perfume of my choice. It was a pain dealing with them for sure. However, it was resolved. I don't think Chanel wants to go to court. They will settle with you. However, you need to take photos, circle problems, and give it to them. Always have a paper trail.
Update :
I called and spoke to the owner. I told him what happened and he responded to the scratches and bumpy hardware with: it actually got dip in actual real gold so it doesn't come out perfect.
To my torn leather he responded, and I quote " No,no,no,no,that wouldn't be us. I can Try to take it back if you're positive it was me ( then went on and explain how the hardware was removed from the bag).
Basically with their "technique", cuts just don't happen and it's not their fault.
So I mentioned I took before and after pictures. Then he asked me to email them to him. Email attached with pictures sent. Now I just have to wait. I might have my dh speak to them next time as he was pretty intimidating or trying to be anyway by speaking over me and not letting me talk. On top of that he accused me of lying by denying it was their responsibility. Thank God I have pictures.
