My first Hermes scarf along with Coupeaux. Purchased at an Hermes sale.

I can't believe that, the one was at the sale, you are very lucky, what a classic

This is a fantastic picture and beautiful locale. I could look at it all day.

I need to try this head scarf thing. It looks so fab on you. I'm not sure I've got the style chops to pull it off successfully, but I love how insouciant it is.

:hugs: Thank you, that is so sweet. BF took the pic with his 'new' lens

Some people have very smooth straight hair (lucky, but hard to keep silk scarves on). If you have a Gamma(?) belt buckle and use it like a scarf ring at the front it actually anchors in the hair without having to resort to hair-grips - that's what I do when I've newly washed/conditioned and blow-dried.

Scotland also features grey/steel rather than gold, which I prefer, as I wear more silver chains than gold.

I like both (and wear both) but silver/pewter/steel is harder to find. I'm quite thankful one of my Napoleons has the more subtle silver. I love that my red/aubergine Zenobie has 'dark-aged' silver though, there's so much 'metal' on that (Faivre) design.

10? That's amazing work

and so is that scarf amazing, must be a scenes from his most famous plays. Fabulous with your outfit. Strange H doesn't do these kind of scarves with narratives anymore

Thanks so much. Yes, scenes from the plays, with himself in the center. I don't think H is interested in historical or cultural stuff any more, just busy designs.

Ahh, I love this beauty, moma -- I've never seen one come up for resale, but you've reminded me to keep an eye out!

Thank you, ABQ. After I nabbed this one, I saw the red CW on eBay, but -- you're right, they don't come around often. (ARE YOU READING THIS, RESELLERS?):laugh::laugh:

Lots of beautiful scarves this week! I am hopelessly behind, so just commenting on the last few
Squeaking in this last night of floral week with La Rosee....a favorite floral of mine! I keep trying to find other ways to wear this than just with blue or white...

And croisette- I had hoped to try this CW on, but didn't find it in NYC. H does not seem to do green scarves that often. Gorgeous! I am totally in love with the pale blue one I found.

My Ledoux scarves:

Napoleon (same scarf, different tops)
Carrosserie
Hiver en Poste
Comédie Italienne
Scotland (also a "map scarf")
Great intro as always! I have come close to bidding on a few of these designs, but being a more recent scarfie, I don't think I have any of these older designs. Really looking forward to seeing this weeks posts.

OMG HG alert!

My only Ledoux (I think)

Nice!
What an incredible list of scarves ABQ! Love the Napoleon on different tops!

Beautiful Papertiger!

When you look at the incredible list of scarves that were issued, I feel a little guilty I don't have more Ledoux! But I love the 2 designs I do have..

Here is Phaeton...I know you guys have seen it before but hope you aren't toooo sick of seeing it! It's another one I have to kind of search to find ways to wear, like the la Rosee. I seem to have trouble finding ways to wear blue scarves! Will try to ponder that heavily this week!

Love that phaeton. I also sometimes struggle with my blue/white scarves- usually wear with white.

I have about 10 Ledoux, I think. I love his work! I've shown this one before: La Comédie française. It's also called Molière and is from 1969, I believe. View attachment 3356369View attachment 3356370View attachment 3356371
Wow! What a treasure. Haven't seen this one!

How nice, papertiger & Pautinka! I'm Scottish by ancestry (have a "Mc" real name) and I love this scarf. Here it is in back-to-school brown:
and two different ties -- the second managing to make two sword hilts look like one eggbeater!
I also have Scottish ancestry but not a McName , LOL!
May have to look for the Scotland theme scarf

Ha ha! We are practically neighbours :hugs:

Thank you bunnycat

Well that blue scarf if nothing less than a sophisticated beauty, just the kind I am trying to purchase more of and stop buying the 'crazies'

Thank peppers, I was buying the brown and the reseller (very sillily) revealed in a by-the-way she had the red after I told he "if you ever get the red...", some how she kindly ended-up selling it to me, what a sweetie.

Thank you so kindly Pautinka!

Thank you scarf1 for the kind words! I will try Phaeton with white this week too! You'll probably see a lot of it as I try to solve the blue scarf problem!

16 May 2016 Artist: PHILIPPE LEDOUX

The abridged history below is from this website: https://carredeparis.me/2013/07/17/philippe-ledoux-the-other-hermes-legend/

Like Hugo Grygkar, Philippe Ledoux left a huge impact on the Maison Hermès, in particular the Hermès Carré. Some of the most collected Hermes carrés, such as Napoléon, La Comédie Italienne and Cosmos, are among his creations. Other highly popular Ledoux scarves are Springs, Grønland (Groenland), Harnais de Cour and La Promenade de Longchamps.

Born November 24th, 1903 in Sheffield, Great Britain to French parents, his family returned to France in 1915. His artistic talents were recognized and encouraged early by his mother, Marie Villaret, who herself was an accomplished watercolorist and illustrator of children’s books. After some time in Rome, Philippe returned to Paris to study at the Académies de Peinture et de Dessin. In his thirties, he lived in London until 1937, when he married a Frenchwoman, Madeleine Gautier and they settled in Cormeilles-en-Vexin. Ledoux enlisted as a liaison officer with the British Army and was transferred to Dunkirk, while Madeleine stayed back at their home in France. After the war, the couple lived in a village north of the French capital, where Philippe worked from home as a book illustrator and spent his free time at a local cafe sketching caricatures, a pastime he had picked up while living in London. His first illustrations were for books; both for both adults and children. Soon his style, sense of composition, accuracy and sensitivity of his drawings began to draw national attention. The Des Amis des Musée de la Marine (The Friends of French National Navy Museum) asked Ledoux to become the illustrator of their publication, Neptunia

Philippe Ledoux was enlisted by Robert Dumas in 1947 to design for the Maison Hermès. His amazing talents as an artist and illustrator can be enjoyed in the 90 carrés that he had created during his tenure at the design house. His last two carrés, La Marine (a Rames) and Les Trois Mousquetaires, were finished by his nephew, Vladimir Rybaltchenko, after a motorcycle accident that took his life c. 1975. Hermès issued a number of Ledoux’s carrés after his death.

Many of Ledoux’s creations have equestrian (Monsieur Dumas was particularly fond of Ledoux’s ability to draw horses) or naval themes. His love of ships and sailing may have been inspired by his grandfather, who was an accomplished sailor and who won several trophies for the Yacht Club of France. Philippe Ledoux possessed not only a great sense of humor and a generous spirit, he was an enormously gifted artist. His art will live on, be it in a book, a magazine, or better yet, on a lovely vintage carré.

The alphabetical list of Ledoux carré designs below is from Seton’s index:

Oh, joy, a list! ABQ, you are a godsend to newbies like me who often have no clue about designers and who engage in "hunt the signature/monkey" with SAs who are free to give a little H tuition :giggles:

ABQ2ATL, thank you so much for your great intro. I will post some of my huge
Ledoux collex later this week. But just following the conversation between
the "Mc's" and Scots I would like to show my Fleurs d'Ecosses flat and worn
with plissé. The designer is Sylvia Kerr.

Very happy to be twins you Croisette

I'd be even happier to be twins with you on Kerr FdE, that plisse is incredible (as is you skirt/kilt). What a sweet and pretty design. (Somewhere) I have my (McDonald) kilt (totally adopted clan) and the same cw would go beautifully. You look absolutely splendid.

Oh Papertiger, you're an early bird too this morning! This kilt is an Irish one, but I
own a few more bc I'm very anglophile ... thank you for your sweet compliment!:hugs:
