I am very excited to make my first contribution here on SotD because the postman just delivered this beauty! I think this will also be my SotD tomorrow for Thanksgiving - so I guess this is my scarf of today and tomorrow and probably the next day, maybe week, who knows? Forgive the utter lack of styling, I literally threw it on the second I got her out of her pretty orange box! Good thing she stands on her own, regardless.

Loved your post, Pautinka! I have a Fleurs d'Ecosse in green & orange, I think. I have a lot of books on Victorian jewelry but there is nothing like someone who really knows the history and collects to explain stuff. My prize Scottish agate brooch has a simple design: 3 lobes making up a fan shape. No extraneous metal work. Wore this brooch to Edinburgh and an antique jewelry dealer said it was a representation of the Prince of Wales ostrich feathers. The dealer I got it from in Georgetown a while back did not have much of any interpretation as I remember.
My other agates are small, nothing special, but I do like to see hardstone being used, the colors are pretty.
You''re referring to grouse feathers, right?
Question about cairngorms: sometimes I see these as very orangey (like burnt orange) citrines and sometimes (less often) they are smoky quartz. I am not sure I like the orangey color with the muted agates (maybe I've just seen mediocre examples). Which is the "authentic" color, or are both used?
Scottish agate bracelets are another interesting item. Twenty years ago specialist antique dealers would have a huge table displaying such bracelets. Now, they are HTF -- and I guess the best examples would be in gold. Or are good examples made in silver, like the rest of the SA jewelry?
I passed on getting an antique Luckenbooth in favor of a clan brooch or two b/c I had really never seen them before. (I am not Scottish). Luckenbooths are sometimes called witches hearts if the heart is curved a certain way, right? It's been explained to me what they mean but I forgot. Those are cool.

I believe the Luckenbooths were originally from Edinburgh and given to sweethearts. They are often thought as charms and something that a child may give to a mother too and vice versa. When my mother was very ill this year I brought her a silver version on a chain to wear round her neck till she became better.

I am so happy that your mother is better and what a sweet, meaningful gesture.

I'd like to wish all my friends from the USA who celebrate a very H-appy Thanksgiving

Here are a few of my more obvious feathered scarves and I hope it's not too un-PC to include a First Nation person too in my Apparat des Plaines by Tzapoff, obviously we think of them at this time of year and the very beautiful nature and diverse flora and fauna that makes up the US.
