I've had Kermit Oliver's Texas Wildlife carré since 1987; it was the second scarf I added to my collection. Today I pulled it out of the drawer to enjoy the many Texas birds he represents so beautifully. There is the giant wild turkey in the middle, of course, but here are some other feathered beauties:

(1) Canada Goose, (2) Mallard, (3) Pintail, (4) Wood Duck

(5) Barn Owl

(6) Blue Jay

(7) Cardinal

(8) Peregrine Falcon. I think. Or else it's a Merlin. Any other birders (or Texans) on this thread who can keep me honest here? :p

Here's an archive pic of my Central Park scarf. The bird with the arrows pointing to it is named Pale Male. Obviously not a rooster ;), but a red-tailed hawk who's made his home in NYC since the 90s. He made his nest in a NYC building on 5th Ave. across from Central Park, rather than a tree. There was controversy when the building's co-op board took down his nest from the building. Animal lovers and the NYC Audubon Society protested, and the nest was rebuilt. :drinks:

You can read all about him here:

This is a beautiful scarf, HNN. As a former New Yorker, it's been on my wish list for some time, but I know that I'm not likely to find one.
There is a wonderful book about Pale Male, his mate, and all the Central Park birdwatchers who followed their saga: Red-Tails in Love, by Marjorie Winn.

Thanks for the link!! :flowers: I feel very lucky to have the scarf!! This was from the 2007 issue. Since it was a charity scarf for the park, maybe it will be reissued!!

Never give up hope, Elaine. Took me 2 years and a lot of gasping at some very inflated prices, but I finally found one that didn't impoverish me
