Thank you for your thoughtful introduction on rules or no rules for expanding our collection @Agrume. Today I'll offer up a new-in and crossover theme scarf - This Grand Prix du Faubourg by Ugo Gattoni. It represents V for VIOLET in our progression through the ROYGBIV rainbow.

It is one of those scarves that made me question the potential purchase when I spotted it. I already had the pink one and didn't really need another colorway but the prices on the secondary market are sky high for a lot of Ugo Gattoni designs and this one in particular. The price was extremely favorable (about retail) and the condition was amazing (excellent, near mint). Plus, it checked another GO box: fills a void. And, finally, I thought it would look good on me. I draw a line on those designs and colorways that I don't think will be good on my complexion or fit with my style. It was also returnable if it turned out any of those 'go' markers was wrong.

GO rules met:
1) fills a void
2) highly prized design from a favored artist (Dallet, Shirley, Gattoni, KO)
3) price / value to condition ratio unusually good
4) good chance it will actually look good on me (definition of 'good' subject to mood and distance from Ban Island, lol)
5) returnable at no cost

I have Brazil Detail in brown, and therefore one of my rules is: brown, especially mid-tone brown, is a No Go for me.

Naturally, this is subject to Agrume's Go rule #2: reconsider if it is an SE
I understand your reservation concerning brown although I think brown can be styled very elegantly. Mine has a black background though and no brown at all. I will wear it this week and post a photo.

This is so gorgeous, @Lellabelle, and thank you for hosting a beautiful week last week. Have not been able to participate this week at all, but many thanks to @xincinsin for hosting rainbow week, too.
Easter Sunday. I found 12 Kluskas - here he is with his human. View attachment 6163389

Amazing eyes @Karenska - both finding that Kluska with his human and your embroidered eye brooch. Your Animapolis looks fantastic on you with your jacket and is that a new hair cut? You look beautiful! It's nice of you to pop in to share this. Your embroidered eye reminds me of my favorite psychology professor I had decades ago. He wore shirts with embroidered eyes on them very much like that one. He was such a character and the eyes only added to the intrigue.

I had a no CSGM rule for several years. I can’t wear them as an outdoor scarf in extremely cold weather as my warmest coats have lots of Velcro which snags and destroys the scarf. But the past two winters have been more temperate, my winter coats don’t need to be built for the Arctic, and CSGMs are absolutely lovely to wear with them.

Buying rules for my CSGMs are first and foremost to pick a design I absolutely love. No Hermes only design. (Lettres Equestres, I’m looking at you, as marvelous as you tie, it’s still just no.) No black scarves, no white scarves. And, I’m finding that I have plenty of gray scarves. Please, no white hems.

It’s a chilly spring day here, and little GS is coming over later to plant an oak tree that he got on Arbor Day. It’s time to wear my Aesop with its delightful children’s stories. I even got the book of fables to read to him.

Le Livre d'Esope is my scarf of the day. I purchased this in December, but decided this design and colorway had to wait until spring.

Thank you, EtsyBoss! congratulations on this find, a beautiful cw, glad that distance to ban island was not prohibitive. Genial pairing with your top, too!

Wonderful colours, sure your GS will love them. A sort of scarf on site, of scarf cum book, not to miss - hence my disregard for the No CSGM rule with Esope. As a paediatrician, this was a must have, even if I cannot wear it at work.

Thank you for kicking off the theme @Agrume!!! Soooo many of your rules resonate with me, will have to share a more detailed run-down of mine later.

For now - this Au Coeur de la Vie breaks several of my rules which align with yours. I’ve been trying to avoid getting more white-based scarves, and also scarves with big / super prominent ‘bare’ borders. But it’s just so gorgeous.

Slipping these in under last week's Rainbow theme - Brazil (the original issue maybe?) in a wonderful shade of GREEN. Unfortunately my phone photos don't really do the colour justice. Tried the "rose knot" which I learned this week at a scarf tying event at my boutique but I think it's a bit too fussy for a fat neck . Bottom knot is the one I will leave for today.

I’ve long admired the various EleK here without finding a fitting cw for me

A beautiful modeling photo by @Jereni convinced me that this was the one. The fact that it practically landed on my lap at below retail (I’ll tell the story another time) helped!
The scarf is gorgeous but that shade of blue does not agree with me, so I am not putting it near my face, which gives the opportunity to showcase the beautiful red for today’s theme.

View attachment 6163470

Huge congrats!!! So beautiful on you. And what a boon, to get it for under retail!

Throwback to Orange. My latest acquisition is Katsuona, bought because of the bat wings in the design. Bruce Wayne - one of my fave fictional characters! It will keep me nice and toasty the next time DH decides to go somewhere where it is snowing (Alaska is in his bucket list ...)

And now I come to beautiful vibrant RED.

A little sidetrack here: I am convinced that the quality of the light in the tropics differs greatly from that in the temperate zone, and it therefore affects our perception of colour. The Precious Paradise which I like in sage green? I came across it in the H at Beijing airport last December, but it looked pale and washed out to me then, so I didn't buy it. I love @papertiger's Acte III in red (still love it whenever she posts the photos), and yet it didn't look as vibrant to me when I saw it in my home H. I went back 2 times to look at it, because I didn't believe my eyes

So here are my red scarves which my eye tells me really are a lovely red

Two fun scarves: Les Sportives and Printemps 69. The former is closer to a true red, while the latter is closer to carmine.

Vintage scarf Promenade a Versailles is a lovely deep red.

While another scarf by the same name uses a bright red as an accent colour.
View attachment 6163537

I am a Toutsy fan but Brazil doesn't love me (I've bought 2 and neither suited me). So this is the closest I've found to a Brazil pal - a red necktie!
View attachment 6163535

My Tourbillon is mainly red, which I chose because it looked truly autumnal. That small tea towel next to it is made by a Thai craftsman who hammers leaves onto cloth so that the leaf juices stain the cloth. I've wondered if autumn leaves would stain red if he hammered them.

Recently, my office team has experimented with this craft (hammering is a great way to destress  ). I had to conclude that autumn leaves would be too dry to have much power to stain. And when we tried hammering red flowers, we only achieved a rusty red.

Blue flowers made a prettier picture.

And thus I end my Rainbow journey.
Stay tuned for the next theme!

Beautiful oranges and reds!!! And thank you so much for your wonderful hosting!!!

Good morning!
I am so much behind in both reading post and contributing.
Thank you @xincinsin for rainbow week!!

Have been running to celebrations, events and dinners for days - all fun but no sleep - and got up very early today to travel to the cabin for urgent practical matters. I almost look forward to a ‘calm’ work week.

But this at least is my soyd - carousel du tigre royal. Almost on theme with some blue and orange.

Wish you a peaceful Sunday!

Love this on a blue top!!! Sets off the beige and tans so nicely.

Hello @xincinsin I wonder if you have tried this one? It's a Brazil détail and goes with everything.

Btw I am now hunting for this based on your gorgeous mod shots of it!!! Lol.

Gah, such a happy and cheerful colorway for this charming design! I like your CSGM rules, I think I go by many of them as well. Although one of my Selle Imaginaires has a white hem and it doesn’t both me bc the rest of it is so rich in color.

Gorgeous green and I like the rose knot!

New week, new theme! After a colourful rainbow week hosted by @xincinsin (three cheers! :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: ), this week it is all about how you build your scarf collection:
Take a Break: Do you have rules for buying scarves? Do you break your rules?

Extrapolating from my own experience: in the beginning you buy everything what you like. Then you start realising that it is near impossible to own all scarves you like, for various reasons, so that's where rules set in (and also the famous Ban Island appears on the horizon). But are those rules or rather guidelines (where motivated deviation is possible)? And is your significant other "helping" to enforce your rules?

Mr Agrume's rules:
1. no more scarves.
2. Exception: you really really want a scar - then rule 3 sets in:
3. One in, one out (or, preferably, one out, one in).

My rules:
The no rules

1. No more CSGMs - I have a few (enough) by now, and wearing them at work is difficult.
2. No CS triangles, see point 1, and I am not so convinced by that format.
3. No different colourways of the same design.
4. No duplicates.
5. No 140 cm silk scarves - the first specimen in that size was sold because I struggled with the amount of slippery silk.
6. No scarves with a lot of white. I find them difficult to wear.
7. definitely no scarves with a broad white border (and preferably no scarves with a broad border).
8. no scarves which are too dark or otherwise unflattering re colours.
9. no scarves with a prominent H logo.
10. no scarves with unappealing theme or name.

The go rules
1. Scarves with beautiful names or themes, even if one or more no rules apply.
2. A SE if I can get my hands on it.
3. Any scarf by Katie Scott or Alice Shirley deserves careful deliberation.

That almost every rule has its exception is demonstrated by my SOTD, the giant triangle On a summer's day (also violating #9, with a relatively visible logo):

View attachment 6163668

And now it's your turn - how do you decide which scarf/ves to buy? or not?

What a great introduction @Agrume!

I love reading about your rules and will keep them in mind when I will think about mine… I also love how you acknowledge rules can be broken too, I find your triangle stunning on you 😍

your Esope is so radiant in this cw! I agree about white hems, I prefer avoiding them when I can…

On my way out the door to meet a friend for tea. For the record, I'm wearing a dress! because I'm fancy like that. Once again my SOTD is the very hard working Brandebourgs Fleuris:

Coastal, Twins on this. So pretty w that dress🙌 I love dresses and going out for tea! Can’t wait to meet and have tea together. 🌷
So very beautiful. I think @EtsyBoss is your twin. A great color choice.
Thank you, dear Maedi, Jereni, LKBNOLA, CedarWaxWing, AnnaE, Lellabelle for sweet comments ❤️🥰🙌
Thank you, dear @LKBNOLA ! Love the hat and bag - both seem perfect for a sunny vacation. The hat in particular seems very well considered ;)

Yes, I’m a little lighter at the moment as I just got my balayage refreshed a month or two ago. My hair is naturally quite dark, but lightens very quickly in the sun, so I give it a little helping hand in advance of the summer!

lol - welcome to the orange sneaker club 😂

I wish I owned that Semelles, and if this is your Pytheas I’m very happy it found its home with you - it’s beautiful!

Thank you. The blues in this one always take my breath away.

Fab on the cobalt jacket! Are these the same CW? I think you have a couple?

Hello, dear twin  Just when I thought I have nothing to contribute today, you remind me that I do have one green scarf - hooray!
Joining you from the archives today:

We’re entering that time of year where it’s bright and sunny one moment, and hailing the next! Happy to enjoy the clear skies while we have them 😂
Dear Lellabelle, thanks. Yes, it’s the same cw on that post. Yes, I have 4 cw’s of Precious Paradise and that’s the fourth one! I went to the H when I put this on hold for a day, and brought my 3 other ones trying to resist this one 😂😂but when we compared the blues, this one was very different and I couldn’t resist buying it.

Ok, so I popped on at 31, 695 feet to share a compliment but I got distracted with all the rainbow beauty this morning! But quick before the spotty internet goes out, I will share because where else do we come with our scarf-related joy? Today my Thalassa shawl got remarks from airport security Clear agent, gate agent and, as I was sitting down for a coffee the waitress said, "Coolest shawl, ever!" And then, for lagniappe and best of all as she was leaving a young woman came by and said, "Excuse me. Just had to tell you that your whole outfit/ensemble today is "travel goals" for me." I was so chuffed to hear it! Really put a dent in my OWIQ (Older Woman Invisibility Quotient) and made me smile. Of course, I texted DH and my DDs and a few friends plus all y'all on TPF!
Here's a photo of what she liked!
