Happy New Year!! During 2023 I added three vintage scarves to my collection that I consider to be very special. All three scarves were designed prior to 1960, which makes them, like myself, very vintage.

I love the La Provence by Hugo Grygkar because of the mosaic, and was looking specifically for the version shown in the 1957 Hermes catalog with "Provincia" on the scarf design.

Here is my scarf. I suspect it could well be from the original issue.

View attachment 5921519View attachment 5921521

My next find was Deo Juvante Monaco, the scarf that Grace Kelly famously used as an arm sling in 1959. This scarf is thin, with multiple runs, and worn, but like the Hermes scarf that it is, it washed up beautifully. Again, I suspect this is an early issue.

My final very vintage acquisition during 2023 was Les Biches (1957) by Xavier de Poret. I'd promised myself to find the budget to add a de Poret each year to my collection, and happily this slightly wabi sabi piece came in well under budget. Not my first beloved scarf with a small hole or two.

Les Biches is the winner of the Very Vintage Oscarf, and is my scarf of the day.

What amazing vintage pieces, RBH, each of them. Congratulations on your stunning finds that really enhance your collection. Wow! And Happy New Year to you :hugs:.

:happydance: :ps: ooooeeee I caught up on so many pages that my left arm got pins and needles holding my phone hahaha. I love this weeks theme. Love seeing everyone’s award winning designs and everyone’s humor around our obsessions  .
Happy New Years everyone! I can’t say anything more eloquent than what has already been said so perfectly, but will ditto so many in saying this is a wonderful, amazing group of scarfies and love joining with you all!
Wow @Nomad, you have a great collection of larger format lovelies. :girlsigh: I have a silly little confession to make. I focused on CSGMs in 2023 because of something you said early this year, or maybe late last year.... You commented on how you realized that CSGMs were just a casual throw-on, and that struck a cord with me. I'm a very 'casual throw on' kind of gal, so how could CSGMs not work for me too? Thanks to your enablement, I have a lovely little collection that I wear all. the. time! :hugs:
Awe that is so sweet to say and I am so glad my own realization helped you acquire and wear yours more too. I still protect those darn Samourais more than the others, but I am getting better with time.
It’s funny, my daughter said the other day that I now have a uniform. She didn’t say ‘ “casual” uniform’, but I knew she meant that given fashion is her “thing”. I certainly do help her high leveling of fashion with my finds and purchases lol.
She said, “your uniform is jeans, a solid colored top, lip gloss, mascara and a scarf. Every day”.
Yup that’s it and I love it because I am just so darn comfortable for my pretty mellow lifestyle. And picking out which scarf is my most fun part of my “fashion” look haha. Next most fun is Jean stylings haha. And did I mention spandex. Lord do I love spandex.
This year's Oscar for the Best Vintage Design I received this year goes out to Les Mythologies des Hommes Rouges by Kermit Oliver, my second KO this year and an absolute design wonder. I feel so fortunate to own not one but two KOs. My other is the gorgeous Tsitsika that pays homage to the peoples of the Pacific Northwest coast. This one celebrates the native people of North America more broadly, focusing on those of the United States. It is so detailed and beautifully rendered. Every time I look at it I notice a new detail. There is a lot to love in Kermit Oliver's designs!

A special award goes to Mr. Etsy Boss for Best Supporting Actor in the Acquisitions Department for gifting the Mythologies to me for Christmas - and keeping it a secret! When I saw this design modeled here (I wish I could remember which one of you is responsible! @Cookiefiend maybe??) I fell in love and showed the Mr who took a shine to it as well. Then the hunt began. I found / suggested two and he chose the much prettier but more costly one (good man!). They're both stuck with me for life

At the heart of the design is a circle of plains animals such as bear, white tailed deer, sandhill cranes, and bison that I remember fondly from childhood camping trips. Each corner depicts what I believe must be essentially the different peoples of the four corners of the US. I'm especially fond of the bear and the bison and the woman standing on the turtle / tortoise with the wood rat (?) who might represent the people who were native to the area that is now Florida, not sure. This scarf also has a charming border of delicate white flowers running on two of the four sides which none of my ties shows off particularly well. Colors are sand, pale blue, sage, a bit of rouge and brown, very Earth tone and with a great marine / teal border that is quite subdues as to be possibly charcoal.

There you have it, the extraordinary and so graily KO Mythologies des Hommes Rouges of which I am tickled and thrilled to be the new protector. Did I mention it looked like it had never been worn?!

Loved your post! And what a treasure to receive. I love this cw and you are showing it to its most potential. It’s gorgeous on you and in your ties highlighting this amazing design. It is very high on my list. Yours and karenskas cw is next.
Thank you @Awillow-- you look beautiful in this Savana Dance! Happy New Year and feel better soon!

I think that is one on many Oscarf lists @mktlim-- the pink is lovely on you! Happy New Year and I hope you are recovered now!

I think you win an Oscar for best cw selection for your coloring/wardrobe @Jereni-- you always pick so perfectly and these are no exception. Don't fear sharing your scarf acquisitions here-- this is a Judgement Free Zone when it comes to silk, H, scarves etc. You can actually go into the brick and mortar stores of online resellers like TRR and Fashionphile also @Jereni-- they have multiple locations nationwide. I always ask them to show me the scarf drawer and I have sourced scarves for scarfie friends that way and for myself, too! Duo d'Etriers is a lovely design. This one is cw 08 if it helps your search (and for @Marta_K as well).

What a great category @Redbirdhermes and congratulations on your wonderful CCPs! I love that Mineraux and what a perfect design for you. The blue Trophees de Venise is marvelous and your SE Paddock too. Here's a funny story about my little acronym. I breezily said to my DH that something was not a new-in scarf but "just" a CCP and he looked at me quizzically. "What does the Chinese Communist Party have to do with your scarves", he wondered. Context is everything in this life...Happy New year to you and your family!

Thank you for sharing these @Ashanti_Rose! It would be so lovely to find this! Truly. I'd like to share my last season Ferry Tales men's 100 by the same artist for @MabelJo and @Nomad so they can see the very very distinctive style and brushwork. An amazing artist really-- and the work translates so beautifully to cashmere! Congratulations again on your beautiful find.

This is most definitely an Oscarf -worthy twilly @violetkool!

Thank you @Marta_K. I am lucky indeed-- two of these were found literally minutes from my daughter's home in NJ. One in Louisiana and the poor Fleurs et Papillons was total luck as my consignment store here was unpacking a large estate delivery and I spied an orange box. I had to wait impatiently while the process of cataloguing/pricing etc took place but I walked away with it. It desperately needed some spa treatment as it reeked of moth balls and the box was a bit battered and mildewed but voila. Kismet! A right time/right place scarf origin story. I am trying to be more attentive to "targets of opportunity"

This has proven to be a truly lovely purchase for you @Karenska! Looking beautiful with your necklace too. Happy New Year to you!

I learned that the collective noun for cats is a "clowder" @frenchgirl and seeing your beautiful kitties makes me realize why it was so hard to choose! A charming design with amazing artwork-- I am your blue twin. A lot of people thought the cat looked like a racoon but I think he's just cute no matter what...love the story behind this one!

Thank you @MabelJo-- it wasn't *quite* that effortless but they were definitely lucky finds! One must be prepared at times to look through many racks and piles and drawers but all for an excellent cause! Your Leas Ailes is beautiful-- like an Old Master drawing... I love reading your posts and seeing your beautiful collection; you are such an engaged member on the thread it is a pleasure to have you participate. Can't wait to see what you add in 2024. Have a safe and happy New Year!

Congratulations @EtsyBoss -- this is an Oscarf Winner for sure. What a wonderful story and how lovely when we are supported in our collecting endeavor. An amazing gift and a definite award-winning DH. Beautiful corners and details as on all the Kermit Oliver pieces. May you wear it in joy and good health. Happy New Year to you and your family.
YES! I instantly thought of this one you have when she said the artist. The artwork is so unique! I added your ferry in blue to my list should I ever come across it for less than retail and if I plan a boat trip. Yup I think of these things. If I do this…then maybe I can get this scarf to commemorate “this”. N think of “it” when I wear it. Ohhhhh the obsession lol
I acquired my long sought-after Les Myths this year, too, EtsyBoss! I am not sure if we are twins or sisters but here is mine:

Tomorrow I will pull mine out and compare it to your amazing mod shots with such beautiful ties. It is indeed an amazing design.
Congratulations on this beauty! I mentioned above that this cw is a top contender for the cw I would like as well. It’s an amazing design and cw.

I only added three beauties to my collection this year so they’re all Oscar worthy IMO:
Well, I stopped short and jaw dropped at the number three! WOW! Congrats on being so good and discerning. You obviously know yourself and likes. I think maybe you need to teach a master class on how to do this. I’d be first in line to sign up for helpful tips. Your choices along with your trade w a scarfie are amazing. I myself have not jumped on DF Douze, but your pink is one of the two.
Found 2 older GM moussies on resale site.

Lovely!! And I am so happy to be Twins with you on portes. Isn’t it amazing! With this purchase I rehome two of my changeants for this one since they each one had a similar color this one. But this one had so many more colors in it. It just had so many checks for fabulousness. So if I were to make an award it would be the “money saver award” acquisition haha. In with one, out with two lol.

And a new format to me - Paris Station

For 2024: I need to curate my collection. First by actively putting some.scarves through a rigourous CCP (Color Correction Program). And secondly, rehome the ones I no longer reach for and should be gracing someone else's neck.

Many scarf ladies have mastered this art, and I shall let them inspire me as I step into the new year!

And, the Oscarfs to Best Supporting Actors for Spring/Summer 2023 go to Tea for Two and Tulipomanie! Besides my two CWs of Costume en Fanfare, these were my other two choices that season. Love them both…
Tea for Two

And, now my Oscarfs to Best Supporting Actors for Fall/Winter 2023 go to Boucleries Moderne and Chorus Stellarum bandana… These, along with Parade en Fanfare and Brandebourg Fleuri, were my sole additions from the season.

I was glad to add another 70cm to my collection and fell head over heels with the amazing jacquard of Boucleries Moderne
View attachment 5921826

The Chorus Stellarum is special for it is the first bandana I own. As a fan of C’est la Fete and of the original Chorus Stellarum 70cm, I am very happy to own this bandana in such an unique CW

The second award in my 2023 Oscarf Ceremony will be awarded for Best Format Enhancement of a Design. There are two categories: large to small and small to large. Envelope, please. And the Golden Cat statuette goes to 12 Leopards DF 90!
I adore this design and had succumbed to it when it was first issued in CSGM in the AW21 season. Even so, I longed for a 90 version. Last fall it finally appeared and I fell hard-- choosing not one but two for a total of 24 Leopards altogether (36 if we add the CSGM). I am way past @HermesEchidna's double jeopardies here...
View attachment 5921305

In the small to large category, the Golden Pegasus Oscarf statuette goes to Clair de Lune-- among my most loved double face 90s. This was issued in CSGM for AW23 and I think the design in its new format is just as award-worthy as the original 90.

And sharing my SOYE for a relaxed toast with our neighbors last night...

Hoping everyone has a lovely New Year's Day!
These are wonderful. I know I will regret not getting a 12 Leopards or CSGM Clair de lune.

Gorgeous selections for the year!!! I especially love the En Liberte. It’s such a fun colorway and looks great on you.

Thank you!
Funny enough, my first selected CW was the one you have (prink and purple are gorgeous on this scarf!).
But then there was an issue with the scarf (a first in my 28 years of collecting) and I went to the store to exchange it. And this CW caught my attention and came home with me. I would have loved both CWs but had my heart set on many scarves this year. So decisions had to be made. *sigh*
Yours is pure perfection on you! *chef's kiss*

Great acquisitions! Your tulip was screenshotted along with @Living.la.vida.fifi. I would like a second and it’s amazing!
Your Cheval also screenshotted along with cookie and jereni as I still can’t pick a colorway! That mermaid tail is everything. And your amoureux stopped me in scroll. It is so striking! We don’t see this design often.
These are wonderful. I know I will regret not getting a 12 Leopards or CSGM Clair de lune.
We need a ditto button on here. I know I will regret it too w la Douze. I still think about the pink one and the turquoise/orange.

Dear Scarfies,

Happy New Year to all of you!

Rewinding to May 2023, on a trip to Zurich,
I found myself in an H store surrounded by their gorgeous scarves. After trying on several, I left empty-handed, a decision that soon filled me with regret. This feeling of regret followed me all the way back home.

On Memorial Day, my journey took an exciting turn. I purchased my first two Hermes scarves: "Tea for Two" and "Objets de Curiosite." These weren't just ordinary buys; they signified the start of a remarkable adventure – my first slide down the orange slope. In recognition of this, I'd award both scarves an "Honorary Oscar" in my personal silk journey.

There's a lot of talk about how Hermes has shifted its style, with some people not too keen on the newer, more playful designs. They say Hermes is going for a different vibe now. Well, for me, that new vibe was spot-on. The youthful, modern look of these scarves really hooked me.

I’ve always been fond of scarves. They add a touch of elegance to any outfit. But I always have been worry that some designs seemed to add a layer of maturity that I’m particularly not interested in.

A classic-looking scarf wouldn’t have had the same impact (now it’s a different story) H captivated me with their fresh, playful designs – that's what sparked my love affair, or rather, my obsession with silk scarves.
