My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Congratulations, RBH, it is truly special. I have never seen this design before. I love it!

Thank you, Karenska!

Congrats on this beauty! I have never seen this one!

Thank you, scarf. It is an oldie, indeed!

So glad this went to a scarf sister, RBH! My fingers were itching to click Buy on this so many times, despite knowing full well that it would not suit me. I shall just sit over here and

Thank you, xincinsin. My very first Hermes scarf purchase was from Laurette. I wanted to get a feel for authentic Hermes before dipping my toe into the Bay, and I felt she could be trusted. This is my fifth scarf from her, and I'm sure it will not be the last.

i love hearing about other people's collecting. You've had a good year!!!

Thank you, moma. I hope that in the future I remember 2020 as my Year of Hermes!

I have loved seeing your additions this year. Seriously this one is amazing!!

Thank you, Magjes. Chevaux de Cirque is special indeed!

I am so impressed by your ability to hone in on designs you like. I started collecting over a decade ago and it has only been in these last few years I have started to get a sense of what works best for me. I’m amazed that you were able to find your style so quickly! Congrats on a plentiful year of scarf collecting!:flowers:

Thank you, Julide. Over the years I have bought and worn many scarves, and I certainly had favorites. My Hermes rules include: Avoid orange when possible, and certainly avoid hot pink and orange together. I look terrible in black and in yellow tones of about any color (coral, yellow-green, etc.) I also try to avoid tiny, busy prints, especially flowery prints, unless it is Tapis Persans. Other than that, I try to imagine if I can wear the scarf with clothes that I already own. This still leaves too many temptations, but I generally do end up with a wearable scarf.

:faint: I bow to you! Oh scarf queen!

Ha, ha!!! I had way too much time and money on my hands this year, but thank you.

Wowsers!!! That is incredible. I am at around sixty in four years and thought that was going some! If DH should ever grumble about my purchasing habits, well, I have screenshotted your post and will say, "Well, I know lady who.......". That is some slippery slope - well done!

Thanks, Pautinka, I think. I was wondering if I should confess, but really, I had so much scarf catching up to do this year!

A really gorgeous colorway and design @Redbirdhermes ! Love the subtlety and softness. Congrats on your find!

Thank you, lanit. This is a gorgeous old design. Most of the designs from this era are not to my taste, but this one hit on all cylinders.

:ghi5: Awesome!!
'Best for the least' - what a great Oscarf award!

Thank you, Cookie. Le Tarot was from a Japanese reseller on the Bay, and he had it at a fairly low rating, but it turned out to be much better than it was supposed to be. I'm very pleased.

Best for the Least is a category I can always wish for more of! And stunning colors for you! I have wanted a Le Tarot for some time (for the esoteric mythology references) but never seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Thank you, bunny!

Great colours!

Thank you, Croisette!

Fish & underwater scarves are △⃒⃘Lways favorites of mine- these are all beautiful!! Thank you for sharing

Welcome to this magical thread where everyone is kind and shares gorgeous silks; your SD is beautiful!

Loving these :hbeat: I’m sure your musical talent was much appreciated by your proud DM and other residents.

Fantastic first greeting; lovely designs beautifully tied

 Gorgeous Xmas shares (loved. them. all.), Delightful Oscarfs intro & Completely stunning winners (not to mention your yearly stats).
:heart::panic: :heart:
I updated my alphabetical spreadsheet, but need to sort by year to tally additions... safe to say 2020 necessitated some scarfie retail therapy.
Thank you so very much! And, 2020 did indeed provoke massive retail therapy... I know that I went a bit overboard this year, and it was my heaviest shopping year for exactly this reason

Thank you, Fifi. My scarf collection is a direct result of the pandemic, and having a pile of money from cancelled activities, and lots of time to search for scarves. I am a collector by nature, but I try to actually wear my scarves. Selecting a scarf and an outfit to share with all of you daily has brought me great joy.

To date, there are 90 90 cm silks, 2 CSGM, 7 moussies, 5 70s, 2 bandanas, 3 45s, and 1 100 from the men's collection. 31 were purchased new from Hermes, with 12 from the S/S 2020 (including 4 Les Artisans!), 9 from A/W 2020, and the remainder from earlier years. 22 scarves were purchased used from eBay, 24 used from TRR, and the remainder from various other vendors. I have paid over current scarf list price for just three scarves, Jaguar Quetzal, C'est la Fete, and Noel au 24 Faubourg, and the total overage was less than $500.

I haven't sold any yet, because I need to wear them for a while to see which ones I tend to favor. At this point I seem to have enough scarves to cover the various scarf wearing themes, although some of them will require a bit of creativity. (I know I can always choose to wear what I like.) I like the idea that these scarves tend to hold their value, unlike the pearls and other jewelry that I collected in prior years.

2020 has been a most unusual year, and I was generous to myself as far as scarves went. I fully expect to exhibit more restraint during 2021.
Well, this year has certainly been a ride, and I totally relate with you as to the pandemic shopping frenzy...
With so many activities cancelled this year, I also overindulged on scarves. I so love that you actually wear your scarves on the daily and enjoy them so much... Scarf collecting has surely been a wonderful discovery for you and we are delighted that you so generously share your beauties with us on SOTD. I, for one, have enjoyed your beautiful displays and have learned so much from you!

This was one of my fave buys of the year: Cosmographia. I resisted long and hard with many H-excuses like "the unicorn/sea serpent is too small". The true reason was because none of the cws suited me. Then I wuz enabled by the inimitable @lanit who showed the San Francisco CW and I :faint:

I think 2020 was the year when I finally accepted that there was no such thing as too many red&blue scarves  (goes with denim  )

Cosmographia, tied here to show Mr Kelpie.

Yes, this is a most fabulous CW, indeed... So great with denim and I love it on you!

Scarf mail today!! Acte III, in a nice bright colorway. Can’t resist showing her off, even in my bum-around clothes (just my regular clothes at this point). Thanks to FoxyTrini and Karenska for the mod shots, they were so helpful!
This is such a fabulous design , and you got an amazing CW... If you’re like me, you will wear it often... So easy to wear! And it seriously looks like a different scarf depending on the knot

Have you re-sold any of your purchases? If you tell us you have been 100% successful in your choices, I will be really jealous.

Great Intro and what a fun week ahead! Your 2020 additions are fabulous and the Carnaval des Oiseaux is impressive! The colors are spectacular. I too acquired my very first mousselines this year but am still undecided on how I feel about this format. I’ve not mastered the art of making them look effortless. CSGMs are my true love and glad to have you aboard that scarf train! I do believe we are ELK twins. Beautiful colorway!

Twins on all four! You have tied them beautifully! I really love this last colorway with the green sweater.

Thank you so much Croisette!

:hugs:Thank you Moma!
Yes, I do believe we are ELeK twins... such an amazing CW! And, after much admiring here, I am so glad I took the plunge on mousselines for I am loving the format, and it is perfect for my tropical climate

I just sat down with my scarf spreadsheet, and here are the learnings:

I bought a total of 55 scarves this year, excluding my husband's gift. Among them:

  • Age:
    • The scarves range from 1964 (Les Coqs) to 2020.
  • Mode of purchase:
    • 18 (~1/3) were bought from the boutique.
    • The rest (~2/3) were from various other online sources (eBay, TRR)
      • I am surprised at how many came through those channels. But I do enjoy a good vintage scard.
  • Sizes:
    • 35 scarves (~2/3) were 90 cms; that's standard for me. I also bought:
      • 3 x 140s (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 1 x giant triangle (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 6 x 45s (a lot, considering I only wear them for horseback riding).
      • 3 x 70s (fewer than I thought)
      • The rest are various odds and ends like maxi twillies, one regular twilly, etc.
  • Mousseline status:
    • 5 scarves (10%) were mousselines
      • Disappointing as I hoped for more.
  • Color:
    • 23 (42%) were red / predominantly red (I am not counting red lines or splotches)
    • This means that 3/5th of the scarves were NOT RED.
  • Artists:
    • 6 (11%) scarves were by Alice Shirley
    • Cathy Latham and Robert Dallet are in the close second with 5 and 4 scarves, respectively
  • Special edition status:
    • 10 (18%) were special and limited editions, which is something I have been enjoying this year.

I will start actually posting some of those scarves tomorrow. I think I have never even shared some of them...
Anna, this is amazing! Your organizational skills are beyonddd!
I know we’ve seen so many of your additions this year, but we always wish to see more from you, especially the ones you’ve not posted yet! Bring it on...

10 special editions!?!:faint: Oh please share!!

My first ever post on TPF! Wearing Rainbow Faubourg 140 shawl! I have had it for one month (first purchase from Hermes shop) and I am loving it! Adds colours to my usually otherwise boring outfits.
