My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Purple is the colour representing creativity and we have certainly had a creative week sussing out the source inspiration for our scarf designs. Appropriately, we now celebrate purple shades and tones.

Purple Passion
From the faintest lavender to deepest raisin
Purple garments historically have been associated with royalty because it is not a dye easily procured. Thousands of sea snails or sea urchins had to be harvested and processed to produce purple dye. The value of the costly colour rivalled that of the spices we explored a few weeks ago.

For the fairytale wedding of Charles & Diana, H issued Ich Dien in royal colours of blue and purple. This is the purple cw with an ombre effect, dark purple border lightening to a pale lavender in the centre.

All brides are princesses for a day and, for my wedding, I had a bouquet of cattleya orchids - creamy white with a luscious fuschia purple heart, like those in the bottom left corner of this photo. The other purple orchid is the Vanda Miss Joaquin which is the national flower of Singapore. The last flower is the dark purple-hearted blossom of the passion fruit, vines of which climb heavily laden on a neighbour's wall.

I like purple flowers, and here are a couple of scarves with purple blossom which captured my heart.
Au Coeur de la Vie which also has a bird with violet plumage. The mod shot shows it worn with black, as I was trying out @Living.la.vida.fifi's suggestion to make the border disappear by wearing a scarf with a matching top.

On the left, Dessins d'Orchidees in variegated shades of purple.
Purple complements blue well, which is great for me as one-third of my wardrobe is denim or chambray. Against the same shirt, C'est le Fete which sports a deep purplish plum in the background.View attachment 4928726
Qatari Oryx, a grail for me, has grape purple from dark to light. Designer Dmitri R has rung the changes further by using a selection of fonts which play with the intensity of the purple.

And lastly my scarf mail from a few days ago: Grande Marine. The boats are in two shades of lilac and a dark purple is used for the bow and stern.

Let's relax this week, let our creative juices flow and seek out the purple in our scarves!
Xincinsin, I forgot to compliment you on your wonderful introduction and examples. My sincere apologies because I enjoyed the week immensely seeing everyone’s purple, violet, and plum offerings. I know we’ve moved on to an even more ‘festive’ topic :happydance:, but I am posting a few more purply examples from my SOTD photo archives.

Thank you very much for the sweet compliment, Karenska :hugs:
Love your Axis Mundi! I'm stalking another design in much the same colour family and hope I find it one day.

May I ask why you thought you would send it back?
Absolutely. Well, I loved it in photos and bought it from H.com. But triangles are quite pricey. I wasn’t sure I loved it on me. I thought perhaps the money could go to something else. But once I had it a few days, I really began to love it and couldn’t part with it. The fact that DH loved it, too, helped. So very glad I kept it. I have noted before, BTW, that giant triangles are one of my top formats- so easy to wear and they drape gorgeously. Thank you for asking, dear Monteverdi. :hugs:
Do you own any triangles?

A few last purples from this week.

20 Dec 2020: Yuletide Spirit... Break out your festive scarves!

Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent, (also known as the Sunday before Christmas) my dear SOTD friends!

Many of us have been enjoying these glorious days of Advent and also looking forward to the Christmas festivities. And, yet others celebrate Hanukkah, Rohatsu, Kwanzaa or Yule... Of course, for our little community, that always means donning our silks of the season. I know I’ve been wearing mine, along with my holiday brooches, on repeat for the past three weeks.

Not only do I love wearing my holiday-themed scarves during these festive days, but also my winter-themed designs, as well as those scarves in colorways appropriate for the season, no matter the theme... and, those silks that are just plain festive...

We are coming to the end of a strange and challenging year, yet SOTD has remained a bright spot of solace and fellowship throughout. This week, let us relax, enjoy each other’s company and find joy in our beloved Silks of the Season and other Festive Scarves.

I shall begin with probably the most iconic of all of Hermès’ Christmas designs: Noël au Faubourg 24. I own this Grail in two CWs, and will begin with my pink, which is perfect to wear during Advent, since pink and purple are the traditional colors of the season. Last Sunday, the pink candle of the Advent wreath was lit, and tonight we light yet another purple candle. This is the scarf I will wear to our church services this evening.

I follow with a winter-themed beauty: Joies d’Hiver, which is another quintessential Hermès winter and holiday classic.

And, even though this design is neither Christmasy nor precisely winter-themed, I relate its colors and vibe with the holidays... It must be that vibrant red background; and those golden trumpets, lyres and pipes; and the Commedia dell’Arte figures that evoke a toyland theme; and the old world village scene. Somehow I associate it with Christmas and love to wear it at this time of year.

And, also for the fun of it, I am also going to show a few of my Christmas jewelry this week and encourage everyone to do the same. So, here is one of my huge Larry Vrba bejeweled Christmas tree brooches... These showstopping pins are among my favorite Christmas accessories, along with my Hermès scarves, of course!

So many furry darlings this week inspired me to show this festive Lea Stein cutie... And, on that subject, our darling animal children always steal the show around here, so perhaps we will see a few more... Methinks I will have my three furry children make an appearance as well...

I am looking forward to spending this special week with all of my dear SOTD friends and know we will spread the joy of all of our festive scarves. Let us share the glad tidings and enjoy the silken cheer.

I understand, thank you for your answer.
I am glad you kept it, it is a beautiful piece of silk!
Yes, I own one triangle: Kashinas.
