Joyeux Noël à tous!
My SOTD is the most precious one, gifted by mother-in-law for Christmas. It belonged to her mother. I think it is called Diligences or Diligences anglaises by Pittner. It’s probably a silk-cotton blend. My first jacquard.

Known to me as Victoires et Scenes Militaires de la vie Napoleon, this lovely is one of two scarves framing vignettes from Napoleon’s military history, created in 1948 and 1949. According to Fontan’s 3d, this is the one from 1949 aka “Victoires B,” although my seller indicated 1948 (“Victoires A”).

WWII ended just a few years before the 150th anniversary of Napoleon’s 1799 coup to take power in France—framed on this scarf as “XVIII Brumaire”. In the drawing of “Le Sacre,” Napoleon crowns his consort as it was considered too arrogant to crown himself in the original painting of the coronation by Jacques Louis David. The painting hangs in the Louvre, a fascinating story unto itself. The balance of the vignettes relate several victories, defeats, and other events—although not always completely and authentically. Well-worth further reading.

Wow, what a great story to a great scarf!

Sharing my present from MrBcat this Xmas (which kind of fits in this week's theme) Pani la Shar Pawnee. It was a silk taffeta charm triangle released some years ago. I don't know that the central figure was an actual chief, but a representation of the Pawnee tribe. The horses and figures around the border were inspired by the notebooks of 19th century painter/illustrator Karl Bodmer who spent some time recording imagery of the American West.

I love this CW! And beautifully paired with the striped top! You look quite the Parisienne yourself! Tres chic!

Lovely fifi! A merry Christmas to you too!
Thank you very kindly

Merry Christmas and Happy Yule to everyone!

Just a few for this week from me, as apparently I don't do either history or pale scarves.

I think this one counts though. Paridaiza. It's been released 3 times. The first was a special edition for the Friends of the Public Garden (Boston public parks advocacy group) though this one is from the second release.

And fifi showed us Cavaliers d'Or earlier this week, which of course was inspired by Scythian jewelry and ornamentation.

I adore that Paridaiza and am happy to be your twin... Such a joy of a scarf! A d Cavaliers is simply amazing

This is perfect against the black outfit!

This carré is a treasure for so many reasons! The jacquard and CW are unique and exquisite, and it is a historical piece passed down to you so lovingly. Amazing! Wear it in good health!

Something serious first: Reverie Pompeienne issued in 2002 to benefit the archaeological digs at Pompeii. I'm very glad that this is one of the few shades of brown I can wear and that it is by fave designer Toutsy. The artwork is highly detailed and one day, I'm going to dissect the symbology and research the sources.

And now some frivolity. H issues scarves for events which aren't big on the historical scale, but gee, they sure are pretty!
Flamingo Party for H Miami opening (@Living.la.vida.fifi has the other delicious cw of this)
H en Bias in orange and more orange for The Gates art installation at Central Park
Trophees de Venise in black and gold issued for opening of H boutique in Venice
And the hot pink Parures Oceanes celebrating 30th anniversary of the H at Palm Beach.

My amazing SO bought me a beautiful cw of Regina with a matching very soft sweater for Christmas. I wore them both immediately! I love wearing my scarves this way. They provide a pop of color, feel wonderful and stay perfectly put all day!View attachment 4623778 View attachment 4623779
This CW is sublime! I own the red and ivory and this summer a very special third one came my way that I will post tomorrow... It is such a beautiful and romantic classic!

I am speechless! Breathtaking shawl and you wear it beautifully

Hi Scarfies, hope you all had a lovely Christmas! My collection has been boxed up and is in storage, awaiting a new phase in my life. So I have only the stragglers on hand: the mostly second hand finds that arrived without a box. But back to the theme! To a historian like me, everything is history. I love my scarves because they are an extension of a long history of adornment, of sericulture, of trade and commerce and, finally, of art. Please forgive my contribution - it is my little joke. I knew when I saw this scarf that, hands down - no question about it, I had to own it. It’s nothing new - it’s the Wedgewood scarf. In Wedgewood Blue. OK I thought it was funny...

Annie Faivre’s Ballets Russes pays tribute to the legendary ballet company that operated in Paris in the first decades of the 20th century under its founder Sergei Diaghilev and featuring principal dancer Nijinsky. The figures featured on the carré’s illustration all represent characters from different ballets performed by the company. Many of the costumes designed by Leon Bakst are featured

Zenobie, Reyne de Palmyre is a design inspired by the life of Queen Zenobia, who ruled Palmyra, an important cultural center along the famed Silk Road, in the third century AD. The illustration depicts jewelry and a series of other objects owned by the queen.

At the center of Early America appears an image of George and Martha Washington. The illustration is in the style of the popular American art form of paper cutting called carnivet and also imitates the beautiful marble paper so popular in 18th century carnivet samples.

Well, this week’s theme could have been made for me! In recent years, I have enjoyed collecting H scarves with a theme of Ancient History because I studied this at University many years ago. I still haven’t found the designs in the right colours and price connected with Ancient Egypt and I am sure that there are some others too, but it has been a fun “journey” so far.

View attachment 4622623

Clockwise from the larger image:

1) Persepolis - motifs from Ancient Persia.
2) Les Secrets de Minos - with the beautiful art work from Ancient Crete.
3) Musique des Dieux - instruments and patterns showing Ancient Greek musicians and dancers in the black figure vase style.
4) Promenade de Platon - showing Ancient Greek sport and my first ever H scarf. So beautifully described in the opening post by Fifi!
5) Mare Nostrum - this time the scarf uses art from the Ancient Roman Empire.
6) Escales Mediterranéenes - not strictly a scarf about the ancient world, but some buildings and motifs are used from the Ancient World, especially the vases on the four corners. My first Masters Degree looked at Ancient Greek furniture as depicted on these amazing vases!

By the way, all of these scarves and the rest of my small collection are described in more detail on my website - link below.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! May you all, your families and friends have a wonderful time xxx

Thank you for sharing — all beautiful!

Lab du temps. Portrays historical events from the Big Bang Onwards, and even a few imaginations of what the furniture may hold.

happy Holidays everyone! I am actually wearing my Noël Au F for Xmas eve.

Pique Fleuri de Provence and Promenade au Pays de Cezanne, both worn as headscarves — because it is so cold out!
