Thank you bunny, yes it’s amazing how both taste and style develops. Without tPF and inspiring pics from members I would probably never have had the courage to venture into moussies. I really like your last pic with sunnies and a gorgeous moussie!

Thank you Pautinka, I have two shoeboxes of twillies I don’t use but still cannot let them go. I can give some to friends and family. As long as I have space for storing them it isn’t a problem. It’s very difficult to let go.

Thank you ev e r y o n e for the likes, I think we all have some kind of past with H scarves and it was interesting to reflect upon how everything started...

Thank you Serva! Yes- inspiration pics from here have sent me on a quest now and then!

The first one is spring semester senior year, yes -- I think this was my outfit for heading to NYC to look at apartments to rent with my then-boyfriend, now-husband. Google Photos is a good way to figure things out like that!

Thanks for sharing -- interestingly enough, I started gravitating more towards solid colors recently, so I am sort of repeating your journey in reverse. I am glad you enjoy the mousselines, they are so amazing!

We are quite similar in that we seem to have moved towards brighter, higher-contrast designs over the years. Hermes has made it easier as well, with all the brighter dyes they are using.

Thanks -- I got super lucky! Both with languages skills and the scarf

Oh man, thanks! I wouldn't be comfortable using that term myself, but hey

Thank you -- I liked the bob, too! But it was giant pain to maintain... I like being able to put my hair up for workouts etc.

I have some twillies, too. Some permanently live on sun hats (useful thing in Calufornia), but some are just sitting there. I always thought I will one day grow into 'adult' bags and put a twilly on them, but now that I have, turns out, I like mine twilly-free.

You can still start a diary  I have a list of all my scarves, although I don't have the purchasing dates. Maybe I should keep them. You can probably pull purchase dates from credit card statements and emails from eBay / resellers if that is your route as well.

Indeed!

Old, new, changing? How about different interests running parallel, or amuck as it appears sometimes. What appears the norm is there is usually a story, related to the design or the designer or my life. On the other hand, I’d buy something just to see unique material, technique, fully intending to rehome asap.

My first scarf October 2018, went on to a good home: fellow Texan Kermit Oliver’s The Pony Express. unfortunately I didn’t keep photo. Second scarf: Marquis de Lafayette anniversary issue, unsure of 2007 or 2010, which i plan to sell only if starving in the street is the alternative. These historical-event ones remain high interest, unchanging.

Most recently arrived: Music Maker, love the design but learning the hard way prune doesn’t love me. Hopefully, new home in the wings.

As for Balade en Berline Marble: I thought this was my first and only scarf bought just for pretty but realized it’s very much the story of the artisanal skill and perseverance.

BeB also highlights a downfall of the philosophy of “oh, I’ll just see this one from AW2019 and send it back.” I thought I have just 4 scarves from 2019. I have 6. O.m.g.

I am just getting caught up and love reading the old new scarf stories. I started my scarf collection in 2007, so many moons ago. At that time Annie Faivre was a big name artist for H Scarf collectors. I only have a few of her designs now as Aline Honore designs seemed to capture my eye more and then I pared back on those too, and now like some of the designs from Ugo Gattoni to Alice Shirley and Octave Marsal.Guess H really does find a way to introduce fresh and talented artists to keep our interest strong. Sadly I have released quite a few 90, pochettes and even 70 silks. I do seem to wear 140’s more for everday including mousselines and CSGMs. I know this may surprise many but I have also begun to edit my mousseline collection too. My lifestyle has evolved a lot. i love the more monochromatic and solid colored silks nowadays! There are some exceptions including the wild Sweet Dreams and Rainbow Jungle Love, but otherwise I have gone more neutral on my silks for a quieter look.

Some examples of old vs new...

Older designs: Annie Faivre Zenobie, I only kept the 90 scarf...and released for Aline Honore Samourai shawls and silks

Love florals but silks with a lot of flowers can look matronly on me, so went for the edgier Pivoines in Bronze and Calvacador Claire de Lune

Not buying a lot of 90s these days. Hope this doesn’t rain on any scarfie parades!

My very first Hermès item is this light blue Les Cléfs, new edition 2006, that I bought in April 2006. Even if it was quickly followed by other carrés, it was always this one I carried the most for several years. Now it is over a year since my latest carré acquisition. CSGMs and moussies have become my preferences. The dark blue losange Liste au Fil is a favourite.
Blue is always blue!

We are twins, @Karenska. I also find this scarf at the top end of fancy/elegant. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors especially the purple hem, but these soft golds don't work for me. I adore the delicate and clever design, so I want a Paperolles in my life, but I haven't found a good CW to replace this. This is actually a scarf I should frame and hang up. What do you think you will do about yours?

Hahaha. Once it's in the house it's often too late, right? This stuff is just too beautiful.

I love how thoughtful you are (and how determined, once you've made up your mind). But I think practically everything looks amazing on you because of your eye for pairing with outfits and your knotting skills.
But --- did you really rehome that yellow and silver Samourais?

Hi momasaurus! Nice to be twins and to know someone feels similarly about this scarf. What to do with it? It’s delicate fanciness precludes me from gifting it to any candidate in my family, all much younger. I do wear it on occasion, but rarely, and now my growing collection provides me with lots of options so there is always something else that fits the occasion or outfit better. The colors do suit me. Back in the 90’s and early aughts when I traveled for work and wore business suits, it would have served me well, but those days are long gone. (I had just the purple suit for it, sigh...). I just don’t know what to do with it. Hanging it is a good idea, but for me, I wouldn’t frame it permanently. I did see a scarf-hanging system on the internet (not Hermès’ system). Maybe I’ll consider that. And someday perhaps I’ll sell it on ebay. But I do not want to become a seller yet! Regardless, it is truly a gorgeous scarf and the design, as you note, is clever and interesting.

Oh I agree. Don't know why I said "frame" when I meant just "hang." Those systems seem to be great, especially for changing one's mind!

Love the way you tied the silver-yellow Samourai, lanit.
