San Francisco Hermes Store

Hi everyone, I’m visiting SF again and was just wondering how the area is around the boutique. I used to come to SF regularly prior to having kids (about 4 years now) so it’s been a while. I heard that a lot of stores have closed, due to an increase in crime.
I've never had a problem or felt unsafe - I usually just park in the White House Garage about a block up across the street and shop at daylight hours (but I do the same in most urban/suburban shopping areas).

And truly, I've been to unsafe areas (like Manhattan and Newark in the car jacking 80's), the area around the store is hardly the Thunderdome and quite safe in comparison. But at all times in any city, be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. Make eye contact, don't have your bag hanging open, don't make yourself into a good mark.

I do usually bring a shopping tote or ask for a white bag if things won't fit rather than the orange bag to minimize my purchases as being of interest (plus after a few embarrassing recycling of orange box corpse pile ups, I try to minimize my orange footprint anyway).

I usually either (1) park at the Union Square lot across the street from Macy’s and then walk down past Chanel and VCA and turn left to get to Hermes or (2) park at the White House garage which is down the street from Hermes. The Union Square lot isn’t nearly as nice. I will usually ask for a white plain bag but I do this regardless wherever I’m shopping even if it’s in Palo Alto, Orange County, Paris or Tokyo because I don’t like to attract unnecessary attention.

While many stores have closed around Union Square (I presume in part also due to lack of foot traffic), there are still plenty of stores next to Hermes.

Hello, everyone! I live in the Bay Area and am considering to start my first Hermes journey. I want to acquire a very specific model and color: B40 Brown with a silver plate.

I've been reading threads from SF and PA and learned that a purchase ratio of 1:1 to 5:1 is required to get a quota bag for BK. (Haven’t seen B40 though in the threads.)

What are the chances of acquiring this specific model if I begin making purchases at the SF store? Would it be more feasible to find it in a pre-owned or resale store?

I'm specifically seeking Birkin 40 with a silver plate, in brown, and with Togo or any textured leather.

B40s are in very low demand these days, meaning they are somewhat easy to get from the store but only if the store actually ordered one, which they aren’t very likely to have done. Also, their unpopularity means their value on the resale market is poor so you can likely find one at/under retail price from a secondhand seller. For these reasons, I recommend searching resale to get an idea what’s out there before deciding to try the store.

Thank you for your insight!

Before visiting SF or PA store, I'll start looking into the resale market and compare prices to ensure I get the best deal.
