Thank you for your reply!I believe this is a public sale stamp .. meaning it was offered at sale to the general public for a lower price.

Staff purchase bag![]()
Not S but X (and maybe another letter I can’t quite make it out). May I ask where exactly does this bag come from?
That's a lindyAre staff bags different in other ways? Forgive me if this is a silly question I notice the plate behind the turnlock is round instead of square.
It means it was on sale.
I have a couple of these, bought at the Paris sales some years ago. When it comes to assessing the value of the bag, it really all comes down to questions of rareness and market demand. Realistically, it should lower the price by a little. If, though, the leather or color are rare and coveted, there may not be a huge difference.
Bags with the letter S can be serviced at Hermes just like any other bag. Hermes--both in Paris and NYC--has worked on my sale bags without question.
In recent years, no more birkins or kellys have been sold at the sales.
Wonderful tpfers,
I am considering purchasing a Birkin bag that has a S stamped under the gold stamped Hermes, Paris, Made in France.
Does this mean its a special order, or was it on sale?
Thank you!!!!!
Maya
I bought one and did not know about the “S” stamp. It was purchased on Heritage Live. I cannot sell it or consign it. Don’t buy it. You buy Hermes as an investment. Thanks you so much this was very helpful.

thank you. You are absolutely correct! No one wants to consign or buy. I was unaware of this until I wanted to sell it. I was a client of HA for years and do not recommend them. There was no disclosure, incorrect condition and miscommunication. It depends what you mean by investment.
If you mean something to use for a life-time, a single 'S' stamp need no be a problem.
As previous writers have stated it indicates something from a public sale and therefore cost less to the original buyer.
There should be no problems with Hermes aftercare.
The chances of coveted bags appearing now in the Paris or New York sales are much less than ten years ago.
The 'S' stamped with a serial number is more problematical. These were sold to Hermes employees with an undertaking that they would not be resold. In theory if they were returned to Hermes for some reason, the purchasing employee could be traced.
If you buy 'for investment' with a view to future resale, bags with 'S' stamps might be more difficult to move.

Thank you for responding to my post. The information was quite valuable, as I cannot consign or sell the bag. The Director of HA told me to just keep the bag because it was a nice piece. She worked for Hermes and she did state they had employee sales. There is no mention of any “S” stamp on my receipt. You have stated what all the experts I have spoken to. I had no knowledge of any discount or employee sale. I have been collecting Hermes bags for almost 50 years and my mother before me,It depends what you mean by investment.
