Rolex Datejust poll: Roman Numerals vs Diamonds

I wanted to add that you should check out the older watches with diamonds vs. older watches with romans. I'm not sure why, but the diamonds must get dusty and thus appear duller over time. I always hate the diamonds on a much-loved watch but they do look great in the beginning. You could get it cleaned annually, but at several hundred bucks a pop for servicing/cleaning, I'd prefer the romans to keep it looking fresh.

Absolutely diamonds. When you are older you will wish you had chosen that one....I am wondering the ages of the people here who are saying Roman....I am guessing they are younger (I am 43).

I have never heard of diamonds inside a case getting dusty - that makes no sense to me. I have one of my Rolexes for almost 20 years and the interior diamonds look the same. Regardless, you will want to maintain your watch diamonds or no, so you will have to have it serviced occasionally no matter what you get.

Hi BBC, to answer your question: I'm more senior than you :D and voted Romans for three reasons:
I prefer to spend diamonds money on separate fine jewelry, I like a minimalist dial, and Romans are a famous classic dial choice in Rolex.

So it's possible to prefer them at any age!

I'm also older than you and prefer Romans. Rolex diamonds are single cut and I prefer the shimmer of full cut, which is probably I see the broad flashes from single cut diamonds as dull. When I say that they look "old" or "dusty" is probably my eye's interpretation of the single cut. I prefer my pave melee full cut as well. The single cut melee just doesn't do it for me. Now, if they used full cut diamonds and thinned the bezel, I would be in heaven!

Well, then, I stand corrected!!! [emoji38] I must defer to my elders. [emoji23][emoji41][emoji8]
Ok, I like diamonds because I like anything sparkly, and no, those markers aren't very sparkly but I will always choose the bling option. I'm a "more is more" kinda gal!

I'm sharing just my own personal experience. I find it easier for me to tell time at a quick glance with the Diamond dial, but with Romans, it often takes me a bit longer. I have had and love both looks and I think that both are classic. I originally wanted Romans, but I recently changed my Roman dial to a Diamond dial. I thought I'd miss the Romans as I did love them, but I haven't so far. Hubby told me to get the diamond dial in the first place :cray: I also think that a Rolex diamond dial is ok for everyday, but my watch is all white metal and 31mm.

Romans & Diamonds are both beautiful and classic Rolex, so choose the one you like best when you try them on. Good luck and have fun!

Photo is my old watch and the new ;)

ITA. I'm 44 and my vote was for Roman Numeral as well.

I would go with roman numerals ! I love diamonds on the bezel but not on the dial. And when you get it serviced in a couple of years (6-8) you could ask to change the dial if you want to get another one ! [emoji4]
