@bagaddict17 I used to only wear yellow gold as I love the way it looks against my skin, my DH did not so much. He upgraded all my stuff to white gold, platinum, and ss so now that’s really all I have. I regret letting most of it go. I sold a lot of it as I am not a person that likes a drawer full of unworn stuff. I like to see and wear most of my pieces daily!

I have tried on an all steel before and sadly I just didn’t like the way it looked with my jewellery :confused1:  I actually love steel / white gold as think it looks so fresh and when I see ladies / gents with a fresh steel with a fun face I think wow that is stunning! but with my jewellery there’s something just not quite right about the look imo.
I agree I think it’s an undertone thing

I just think when typing things in the forum threads we should think about the perception of others which is as important as our intent in typing it. It bothered me that the two people you chose to mention as “chic and classy” with their all gold Rolex’s were white, then you listed two black actresses and said they didn’t look as good for wearing two tone. Maybe I’ve lived in a country/state too long where prejudices and racism are all too common place but I found the initial post offensive. It reminded me of the black and white children that were given two dolls one black, and one white, and for some reason each child said the black doll was bad. I took my time responding because I didn’t want to be offensive in my response. One thing to remember especially when dealing with celebrities is that they are rich enough to own multiple luxury items. If you just google Rihanna for example, many pics come up with her in her all gold Rolexes. Since we never know who is on the other side of the computer screen, I think representation is very important. The op might have brown skin like mine and appreciate seeing the watch on people of that complexion. Not trying to offend, but I think it’s important to mention that sometimes what we type can be perceived differently by different audiences.
Thanks for pointing out, after reflecting more I think you’re 100% right and I wish I had found more examples before posting. I’m mixed race, sensitive to my mom who is nonwhite assimilating and being accepted, and agree there needs to be more sensitivity.

I am the complete same! I want to build up my jewellery collection with classic pieces that I can wear every single day. Although I am envious of the ladies and gents with many watches, necklaces, rings and beautiful Alhambra bracelets in every stone, that’s just not me. Unlike my bags, I find I don’t rotate my jewellery at all (save for earrings which I love to have a collection of) (maybe this will change - hope not as my wallet would not be impressed with me walking into VCA asking for every stone in a 5 motif:lol:). I hope to wear whatever I choose every single day. I think it will be an all gold, but we’ll see when I visit the boutique in just under 2 weeks!

You’re welcome and thank you for being so receiving, after I posted it, I was thinking gee I hope it doesn’t come off as argumentative. But trust I get it, both my parents are biracialish. I identify as black but in reality I am black, Irish, American Indian, Puerto Rican, Afro Cuban and probably a few other things I know nothing about. I try to be inclusive, growing up in privilege, where I lived, unfortunately meant that I was usually the only person of color- at school, in my neighborhood, in dance class etc.

I justify my expensive purchases based on cost per wear. The only way I don’t feel wasteful is if I use the heck out of my stuff. I also find that when I love my jewelry I don’t reach for other things. I also think my purchases through more and I don’t just buy things just because it’s the next fad.

Oh but the beauty of stacking various Alhambra’s. Have fun at the boutique and know that you will eventually end up with at least two lol

Hello all  just thought I would give you an update. I went into my local boutique they surprisingly had an all gold (31mm) and a two tone (36mm) (both datejust, both white dial, fluted bezels, no diamonds) for me to try.

Well… I absolutely fell in love with the all gold and they have placed an order for me of a datejust, 31mm, white dial, Roman numeral markers and fluted bezel! They said I should have it in a few months! I am sooooooo happy and excited. I had wanted to go to the boutiques in London and hopefully buy one straight away but I’m super happy with my choice to wait as the customer service I received was just fantastic. Cannot wait until my new baby arrives and I will update you all when she does:smile: I stupidly didn’t take any pics as was too excited!!

I wanted to thank you all again for your help! It really has helped me so much and also confirmed this is not a one time purchase and I’ll probably need a two tone later on. Or next year. Or maybe for Christmas. Lol. X

I should hope it goes without saying I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I’m actually a woman of color myself. My mother is also one and doesn’t wear two tones. and I follow her style.... I just felt weird posting a pic of my mom

those were the only celebrities I could think of off the top of my head who wore two tones. After a bit of research I see that Whitney port who is white wears a two tone and I think it washes her out, consistent w my earlier statement. Also Selena Gomez owns an all rose gold and I love it on her. But we were talking about YG watches.
my comment was quick and I didn’t mean to imply that any of those women have bad taste. I just wanted to show examples of real women wearing the watch that are easy to Google.

Most of the women I work with and live near are white and wear two tones. Which is why I said I see it more often irl. I just didn’t want to post pics of them because those are not celebrities you can Google.
Don’t worry, you were certainly not sounding biased at all.

You made a lovely choice. I have the all RG 31 and even though it has diamond markers the fluted bezel helps to keep it a little toned down and less flashy. Mine is 3 y/o and has zero scratches and no patina. When not wearing it I make sure to lay it stem side down so the bracelet doesn’t fold over on itself and the case doesn’t scratch. If I carry in my jewelry pouch while traveling or in my gym bag I make sure to wrap it in a micro-fiber type cloth around the bracelet then around the case. And it goes without saying, to keep down scratches never wear a bracelet on the same wrist. Enjoy!

I pointed out the bias because as a brown woman, to me it seemed a bit tone deaf. I assumed she meant no harm but wanted to politely point it out. Perception is very important and so is respectful discourse. Based on your pictures posted, you aren’t brown, therefore, based on different life experiences, that’s something I can’t expect you to understand.

Glad you made a choice, please update with photos once it comes in. I once had a small gold watch that was a gift from my great grandmother that I loved! It is now sadly too small for my taste so my mother wears it.

I think you could consider that it’s possible you are making assumptions as to what other people can and cannot understand. Skin color cannot be an absolute predictor of bias on either side of the color spectrum.

All I can do is point out how I felt which is what I did, my feelings are based on me being a Black woman in America. I never suggested race was a predictor of bias. However, I stand by the fact that a non black could never know how it feels to be a black person in my country. Likewise, I don’t know what it feels like to be a white woman in this country, that has nothing to do with bias, but absolute fact. Anyway I do not wish to further engage, we can agree to disagree, I’m fine with that.
