Rolex - all gold or two tone. Help me!

So I’m biased as I have the exact two tone Rolex in the picture above and find it a wardrobe stable. I tried the all yg rolex presidental and while a true classic it felt slightly old. I also prefer Cartier watches over rolex and I recommend looking at their various gold watches. They tend to feel more feminine and really look great when wearing all yg jewelry.

I love a good gold watch and I plan on getting a full gold Cartier tank. But it would probably not be an everyday watch for me.
Gold watches are very flashy, they will attract attention, especially Rolex.
Even in a place where I live where I see chanel bags often and even hermes B/K/C, very few people wear their full gold watches out on the daily. Especially since 2020, we have tried to keep attention to the minimal to prevent theft.
I have been followed home from shopping before, and it is not fun.
However, if you are okay with that, and your heart just dances when you wear that watch, go with the gold!

However, I do like the versatility of a 2-tone watch, while not exactly my style I personally find it useful in the long run because I do have a variety of yellow, rose/pink, and white gold jewelry that I like to mix and match, so a 2-tone watch will allow me that versatility.

Gold is softer than stainless steel, so keep that in mind, especially if you're going to wear it often. The 2-tone will be a little hardier being somewhat protected by the steel.

Hope this helps!

It is totally up to you and what you love. Personally, I love the flexibility of a two-tone watch and love the way they look. I agree with what the above poster said about the versatility of a two-tone watch. I actually have the exact two-tone watch you posted but in a smaller size and it is my everyday watch.

Ok I started with a two tone and then sold it and got a 36 mm YG. I also have a steel rolex with a black face. I think the two tone can wash you out . It's beautiful up close but far away and in pics, it doesn't look great in my opinion, unless you are super tan.

On top of that I see the two tone everywhere now and I don't think it's as special. I don't mean that in a bad way I just like more unique pieces.

Also I think all yg or all stainless is overall a more elegant look. Please let us know what you get!!

Thank you all for your really insightful replies! It is so helpful to know all of your thoughts, particularly as most of my friends are not into luxury so it is hard to get genuine opinions on my purchases.

I think the forum is pretty much split on the two! I think my heart is set on all gold, but part of me is still holding out for the versatility and slightly more understated look of the two tone. I’ve read all of your comments out to DH and even he as a former two-tone fan is starting to come round to the idea of all gold, though he still maintains I may look like a rapper (as I said before, not that I care!)

I’ll be heading to the boutique w/c 26th so I’ll ensure to let you all know how it goes:smile: I’m really hoping to be able to try both styles on with different dials. Hoping to walk out with my dream watch but as many of you have said I may need to think on it before making a final decision. Thank you all again!

Thank you for this and your comments are so valid. I am thankful to live in a suburb where crime is minimal (touch wood), however it is very English countryside (think almost Cameron Diaz in the holiday small village!) and flash is not so common (the stylish ladies here are usually about H and Loro Piana outerwear than BKC and Manolos) so part of my thinking the gold is too flashy is it may stand out too much where I live. Although I do at times work in the city, I don’t know if I would feel self conscious with an all gold and there is also the heightened risk of theft there.

oooo this is really helpful. Did you sell your two tone because you felt it washed you out / you saw it around too much or were there additional reasons? Any comments you could give would be so helpful! If I can I’d like to avoid having remorse and getting rid of whatever I buy for the other within a few years!

I used to absolutely detest two-tone anything. However, fast-forward into my late thirties and I started loving certain items in two-tone. My wedding ring is platinum and white gold, but there are many occasions I wear yellow gold earrings, and all of my evening bags have gold-tone hardware. It used to drive me nuts that it didn’t match my ring, etc. So I bought a two-tone watch, and it brings everything together perfectly. I love it, bc you never have to worry about coordinating it with anything else; it’ll always match.

I think it will be best to try on both if you can. But I am here to echo what others have said about an all gold Rolex. I almost bought one second hand at Tourneau years ago. I don't think it's too much for every day wear at all.
Another option is to check out certified preowned. there are many Rolex watch forums on the internet, many of which recommend resellers. I looked into buying one preowned. Tourneau seemed priced on the high side Compared to some, but the advantage for me is that I could go to Tourneau to try on and purchase. I couldn’t decide between cartier, Rolex and Bulgari. This year, I finally gave up and went with a Bulgari bracelet figuring that my iPhone tells time. Back then, many watches, looking new, were for half the retail price. Also, if Without box and papers that also cuts value at least in half. If you decide to go pre owned, that way, you have plenty of funds to buy a second everyday watch

note when you go to the store to try them on, it may seem obvious but take a full length pic of you with the watch. That might help you decide whether it’s too blingy.

I love my 2-tone 36 with fluted bezel.

The most important feature for me was the face--could I read it easily? So I have a cream-colored pyramid dial with roman numerals --no need to squint or find shade to view it in. Also, after tons of research I bought pre-loved--saved a lot of $$$. I would worry about theft more with an all gold watch.

Post pics when you get your new watch!

honestly both.

the two tone is everywhere here in the US. you especially see it on every other influencer, not that that matters to a lot of people but i don't like having what everyone has.

I just think the YG really pops. For example --

Morgan Stewart and Minka Kelly have both owned the YG rolex ..... and I just think it looks so classy and chic. Whereas Rihanna and Zendaya wear two tones and I just don't think they look as good **shrug** The two tones kind of blend together and looks muddy to me unless you're right up close.

that being said, HOWEVER I do occasionally miss my two tone. and may one day get a preowned ladies' 28 mm in a fun dial color.
