This weekend I’m going to buy the small black Rodeo. Does the leather scratch. The sa from the store said that his girlfriend has this bag and that it absolutely doesn’t scratch. I have hard time believing that because there is no grain in the leather.
About the hardware : I’m thinking about geting the brass coloured hardware. But on pictures I see more gold, does this better suit the bag or is it just personal choice?

The brand new "untouched" one looked stiff and dull initially. But the leather changes very soon to buttery soft with a few uses. You should see the leather on your black Rodeo soften soon.

The brown leather is a different leather. I love the way the leather looks from just the photos (I haven't seen it in person).

I have used mine as a "knock around" bag and haven't noticed any scratches or corner wear. The hardware is aged gold if you go that route. I love the color. The only drawback is that almost none of my straps with GHW match because most of them are too bright, but I find that I use the shoulder strap more than crossbody anyway.

Mine has a bit of corner wear on both back corners. I also accidentally scratched the lining inside. I don't think the bag is scratch resistant. However, I don't mind some wear. After all, there are pre-distressed versions with scratches, stains, and corner wear which cost more than the original, suggesting that the bag is meant to look beaten up and scratched over time like Mary-Kate Olsen's beat up Hermes Kelly bag.

The leather isn't that delicate, but it does scratch.

I also prefer silver hardware in general, as I think it has a more "industrial" feel than gold hardware. I think that look goes better with Balenciaga's edginess, but that's my personal preference.
