EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Tributes are paid to the woman who used to help the Queen go out incognito in public: Described as Her Majesty’s most mischievous friend, Lady Rupert Nevill dies aged 97, with senior royals expected to go to her funeral

During her record-breaking 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II was the most famous woman in the world. Yet she still managed to go incognito from time to time…

The Queen relishes seeing whether out of royal context she can go unrecognised,’ reported an article in the 1970s.

‘She once queued at the ticket office without being noticed.

‘Another night, when slow-moving crowds jammed the foyer, the manager recognised Micky Nevill and suddenly realised that, elbow-deep in the crush and enjoying it, was the Queen.’

The good old days before social media destroyed privacy I’m so glad the Queen could switch off and enjoy private personal and real friendships like the rest of us - reminds me of an Elvis quote when he once returned to his sanctuary Graceland after a long stint in LA filming “ it’s hard being Elvis Presley “ must have been harder to be the Queen for 70 years still she made a better job of it at 96 than Charles is doing - no respect for him in not sorting out Harry

I hope each great grandchild has a photo of them on her knee - maybe none of Archie or Lilibet? The Queen had a red eye when she met the latter and banned photos and I don’t know if I have ever seen one of her with Archie - did she and Philip attend the christening ?
No, she didn't attend. She had another, already planned engagement.

There’s a lovely photo of her meeting Archie - not holding him, but it’s a sweet image.

I hadn’t realised lady Gabrielle Windsor fainted when the queens coffin was first brought into Westminster hall I do recall the cameras panned away and showed on person sitting on a chair while the rest of the family stood - she is a beautiful girl and was so close to the Queen her first cousin once removed ( her father Prince Michael of Kent is the Queens cousin)
