RIMOWA, Anyone?

Thank you! I agree that the weight is a downside, but when I compare it to my old Tumi suitcase it’s really not that much heavier...

Have you thought about just buying the 2nd Rimowa while you’re on your trip?

I actually had a look at tumi as my second suitcase as an option but yeah they weigh more or less the same and I prefer the look of rimowa suitcases more. I think rimowa is more expensive if I was to buy in Hawaii rather than from Selfridges which is a shame. But I might reassess and see if the exchange gets better cuz that would really help me out if I could buy it there so its easier to travel back.

My dream is to own a RIMOWA. I don't travel much so I don't really have a need to invest in one. But if I had extra money and trips, I would definitely go for RIMOWA. I know it's really common to see them at airports now but each RIMOWA is different in the sense that you can stick your own stickers, each dent tells a story and the wear and tear shows how much you have travelled.

Sadly, with the way baggage handlers throw your bags around, it only takes one or to flights to look like a seasoned traveler.
I took my brand new Rimowa Limbo bag to Paris and when I picked it up at baggage claim, two of the metal corners were dented and there was a long scratch on the side.

[QUOTE="little_j, ... This might be a stupid question but does the 26" suitcase fit into the 29" one?[/QUOTE]

I just checked; the 26" fits in length-wise, but is too deep for the 29" to close.

Thank you so much for checking!

Such a shame though. I really wanted to fit another suitcase in my 29inch one. I may have to get a carry on size as I think that is the only size that will fit. Ideally though I wanted something bigger.

OMG, that's terrible. I hope you managed to get it repaired.

Me too. I live in Switzerland and I use my Rimowa only on the train (with me as the baggage handler) or on business class flights from Zurich to Singapore, where I can be reasonably sure it will be handled properly. For flights elsewhere, including to the U.S., I have pretty ordinary, inexpensive soft-sided luggage that I don't worry about. If it gets dinged up by indifferent and rough baggage handlers, well, it's annoying but I can shrug it off. I'd rather not have two sets of luggage, but OTOH, I don't want my good luggage trashed (in edition to Rimowa, I have a set of limited edition Bric's luggage that you could only buy in Italy).
