RG/Pink/Rose gold fading / tarnishing?

I just purchased the RG small Love a few months ago, and so far it still has a pinkish hue to it. Hopefully it doesn't fade. Back in 2008, my husband bought me the RG regular Love, and I had it for 7 years, and as far as I could tell, it still looked like RG.

I have the RG Love bracelet , 5 RG rings and 3 RG necklaces from Cartier. The bracelet (6 years old) is definitely less pink from all the other pieces now. My understanding is that the yellow-ness comes from the copper being oxidized but it’s only the surface. Never had the bracelet cleaned but had some of the RG rings cleaned by Cartier (very quick—not polished), and the pink color comes back! My Tiffany RG jewelries also lost some pinkness over time. So far Bulgari RG stays the longest but it’s not that pink to start with anyway. I actually kind of like the patina on my RG jewelries. It’s like having both YG and RG at the same time. I can switch between them haha :)

I have noticed something really weird with my small RG Love bracelet after 5+ years of wearing it. So I have an aquarium and when I do my maintenance, I'm up to my arms in tank water. It seems to take on a whiter sheen and after a few days, goes back to pink like when I first got it.

May be some chemical reactions going on in there. I have a blackwater biotope and use almond leaves and alder cones to tint the water brown. Perhaps it could have something to do with the tannins...

PSA for rose gold Cartier owners, I’ve had all my pieces cleaned at the boutique for almost a decade now but I only discovered this month that Cartier boutiques have a “special cream” (as per my SA) they can use on older rose gold pieces to restore the color. All of my pieces had pretty much turned to look yellowish over many years of daily wear and I didn’t mind how it aged but was pleasantly surprised that it is possible to restore the color without polishing off the gold!

So if you take your RG pieces to the boutique for a cleaning be sure to ask for the cream to be used to restore the color. I was told by my new boutique manager that this should’ve been procedure and customers shouldn’t need to ask for it, but I’ve never had it done on my jewelry previously. I wonder if it was because they were too lazy and this is an extra step to the cleaning session. It did take much longer than expected. Anyways it’s a happy discovery!

Just wondering, with daily wear, how long it took your rose gold love/JUC to “turn” more yellow gold? I’ve read the due to oxidation, etc. that this is common in these Cartier pieces. I was struggling between deciding on the two metals
, but in the end went with RG because it blended with my skin tone more and looked more like a gleam for everyday wear, and not as showy. But at the same time, I’m looking forward to my bracelets turning to YG because in some lighting, it looks a little coppery than I’d like and I do wish I had gone with the YG to begin with. In the mean time, I’ll see it as having the best of both worlds.

I've had my RG small Love now for about a year. It stacks next to my YG JUC/regular Love, and I feel like it still has that pinkish hue. I can definitely tell the difference between the RG and the YG.

It never turns to YG, however indeed gets less pinkish which I like too. With active wear can be within a few months. Cartier can also do cleaning for you when it turns back to almost the original state.

I’ve had my pink JUC for the past 4 years and have almost never taken it off. While it’s probably not quite as pink as when I first got it, it can appear more or less pinkish depending on the light but it definitely is not “yellow” as the yellow in my Trinity rings.

Have had my trinity cord bracelet since 2019 which was also also pre-loved. The authentication card states cord bracket was purchased in 2017 so it’s about 6 yr old - have not seen the rose gold fade.
