Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

I took a screenshot but I’m not sure if I should rat her out. Especially since I have no sales history in the store. I asked for the bag multiple times since January. She originally listed it for 7200 but sold it for 6200. Way overpriced.

It’s the Troy saks boutique if anyone else would rather do it lol.
That's one of my boutiques but I wouldn't do even though I have purchase history. Why not?

Because Chanel should put on their receipts the same language Hermes has about reselling. Under that circumstance, then I would share that info to my SA and let them handle it.

Seems they have rules in place for SA’s not to sell to a profile thought to be a reseller, so I think they would welcome this info. I’d totally share the screenshot to actively try to combat the reseller issue, but I don’t have a Saks Troy contact unfortunately.

How I found out about the rule started off by someone in a FB group wanting to buy a bag from a NM SA I had posted for. It was claimed by a local customer in store before the member could get it. A week later the SA got a hold of another one and followed up with me asking if the member originally interested still wanted it. Turns out the group member already bought one but then said her friend wanted to buy one, so I forwarded her friend’s number to the SA. The SA said that the profile seemed like a reseller, which was the first I heard an SA saying anything like that of anyone I referred since it’s normally nothing. I try my absolute best not to refer anyone I notice who actively resells on the groups just to flip at premium, but in this case I only had a phone number and knew nothing else of the profile associated with it. Not sure if it was noted on the profile or a judgment the SA had to make prior to considering selling anything, but seems like the standard for SA’s to vet if a reseller before making a sale?

I’m glad some SA’s are getting smart to it. Just last week was at the store and overheard while I was waiting for some items. Customer asking for black mini rectangular, told there were none and then asking to be put on wait list. Once the customer walked out of the store, the SA commented to each other that they would never contact the customer as they are known reseller. Feel they are ruining things for the genuine customers who are trying to get a popular bag.

Unfortunately resellers have a vested interest to infiltrate wait lists as soon as they open, we can’t expect SA’s to weed out all of them because some of them can be very charming and convincing.

I’m not so sure for the USA but certainly in the UK market a significant portion of resellers are shipping luxury items to China due to the exceptional high demand and product scarcity there. They are not necessarily charging massively inflated prices- it’s a case of meeting a need.

Only once brands start increasing supply to China will some of the resellers slow down, until then this will continue and aside from intentionally avoiding selling to certain demographics there’s little brands can do to stop it.

Eventually the products will find their way to a customer, the issue with grey market is the brands do not have any idea who that client is which has an effect on decision making for new stores or meeting demand in certain cities/ provinces and so the relationship and brand image is compromised.

China still has COVID lockdowns and shutdowns. Truck drivers still get PCR tested, container ships are stuck at ports and inventory is building up at warehouses The supply may be there but due to government COVID protocols, the supply chain in China is months behind many other countries. Also travel restrictions are difficult to navigate. Those who do have money to shop may not be permitted to leave their neighborhood or even abroad to shop. The Chinese government hasn't given any signals about loosening restrictions.

Once the restrictions are removed, it will be interesting to see if Chinese consumers will cut down on using external services for luxury goods.

Honestly the people buying from these resellers are just as much of a problem as the resellers if not more. Why are you paying $3k over retail for a bag and color that Chanel has already shown us they bring back?

Yeahh, that problem of there being many rich(er) people in the world with higher willingness to pay, pricing you out.

Because in many places in the world (hello, open borders! globalisation!) if it is 3k over retail now, it will still be 3k over retail next year, and even higher the year after. Because 1) demand continue to expand, 2) supply stagnant or reduced, 3) customs becoming stricter as governments try to rein in customs (already as much as 30-40% in Asia Pacific and they're still flying off shelves as if given away for free), 4) travel takes more time and resources, 5) influencers including TPF.

If people on here want to curtail demand, the best bet is to cease discussion in TPF. Because info on this forum is generating demand.

Interesting you should mention TPF and it’s role in demand. I think social media plays a huge part in creating demand and desire, it’s probably the reason so many of the hot items are so hard to find because everyone sees and wants the same thing. When I shop I walk into the store without any preconceived ideas so as to avoid disappointment but also so I’m open to seeing what is available right now.

I don’t want to be frustrated that I can’t get something just because I’ve seen it on here or on Instagram and is now sold out, I will buy what I see in front of me regardless of collection Hence why I would never use a reseller because I would only ever buy in store on principle. I have a few acquaintances who act like spoilt brats because they can’t have something. For me it’s like ok it’s sold out, that means I’m going to see it everywhere and that’s not my vibe I’ll be different and Not follow the crowd ;)

Instagram definitely plays a major part. Most of the time SA’s say that people come in showing them pics of celebrities or singers wearing a particular bag, and then that’s what they ask for. Fuels the fire.

I don’t do social media for various reasons, and highly appreciate the information on TPF as lots of times has helped me decide what I want from upcoming collections. I will only ever buy from a store on principle too.

I hate to say it but I think that Chanel‘s new policy of limiting us to one bag per month is enabling the resellers more than ever. They have absolutely no problem getting multiples of every item when the rest of us are denied even one. It forces people to use resellers if they want more than one bag per season or can’t find the one they want bc they’ve been purchased up already  this reseller got four of the heart bag!

+1 this limiting issue somehow doesn't apply to resellers and they all have the items I want maybe this is going to force me to go to them  .
