Repairing Your Mulberry

Hi Lisa,

I had the metal work replaced on one of my lexies in March and Mulberry charged the following (excludes VAT):
* Replacing the postman's lock - £25
* Replacing the buckles on the front of the bag - £25 per buckle
* Replacing the d-rings - £25 per d-ring
* Replacing the army straps (metal tips on the end of the straps) - £25 per army strap

I can't remember how much they quoted me to replace the dog clips which attach to the shoulder strap, I think it was £50 per dog clip. Just so you know, they won't replace the rivets as they may end up damaging the bag in the process. Hope this helps

Ria,

Probably a stupid question, but was the £25 for the front plate as well as the lock on your Alexa?

I have loved reading this thread, it as been a great help, Mooshooshoo for the repair phone number and also price quotes from many TPF Members.

I have an Alexa with a quite deep scratch on the postmans lock plate and yes, its £25 =vat so £30ish, and return postage is free, yeah.

And the nice woman at Mulberry said that photographs could be emailed to them for quotes on [email protected] too.

So all in all a good day, thank you all.

Hi JP,

Sorry sorry your clean has turned into such a disaster. Before you try anything yourself....

Does the company have a "get out" clause...."cleaning is undertaken at your own risk...." type statement in their Ts & Cs? If not, I'd be going back to them to get them to either treat the bag to resoften it, or replace it.....

I hope you manage to get it sorted.....

Noticed that the side of my Lily has come apart, the stitching has come loose. It is out of warranty.

Is it best to send to Mulberry or can a shoe repair shop type place do this? It's only a small thing and don't really want to ship it off to Mulberry for a few weeks. Anybody know how much roughly this is likely to be?

Hi Steph, I've made my own soft furnishings for years and would say this is a really simple job. I would take it to the repairers or do it myself. I am sure that anyone that can sew would be able to do it, needn't be a leather specialist. The dry cleaners usually offer such service and would probably do it whilst you waited.

I have just looked at my own Lily and it's just one stitch that comes over the top.

I think Mulberry charge minimum £25 plus VAT plus postage and of course you would have to parcel it up and send it special delivery.

If you cant find anyone that will do it add a pic of the other side that's intact. I might be able to advise you on how to do it

Thank you. I'm not that great with sewing I'm afraid and wouldn't want to damage it by doing it myself! I will hopefully post a pic to show you the other side when I get chance. So a dry cleaners would do this then?

Quite a few dry cleaners offer repairs & alterations - shortening trousers etc. I have a Johnsons near me and they are very good.

If you know of a shoe/leather shop that offers repairs I am sure they could do it.

Good luck :smile:

This is my beloved Tillie (apologies if the picture is HEEYUGE!), I love her dearly but her buckles are so badly tarnished. Everything else is nigh on perfect after nearly two years of almost daily use, the corduroy is still unmarked, and all the other metal parts are fine, but the buckles....well, you can see haha.
Has anyone had this problem with their Tillie (or any others)? Definitely thinking I should get her repaired.

Hello everyone, my beloved Mitzy messengers piping has become undone. I could feel the piping lying at the bottom of the bag underneath the lining, has everyone else experienced this problem? I have taken her in to Mulberry and she has been send away, how long does it normally take for them to come back with a repair quote?

I've asked mulberry if they would shorten the strap on my choc sbs and they've given me a price of £45 + vat. - does this sound reasonable or does anyone know of anywhere that may offer an alteration service of this type for less?

Gosh that does sound a lot. It's probably their minimum charge now as that includes packing it up and returning to you.

It's quite a simple job, just needs one end re-stitched to the clasp. Do you know a good leather repairs shop like a shoe repairs. It would be an easy job for a Cobbler but sadly there are becoming less of them.

Hi many thanks for your reply. I have actually found out this morning that my local shoe mender will do this for me. I have shown him the bag and what needs doing and he's given me a price of around £4.50 - What a difference! And he's very good and I trust him to do a good job so very happy with that - definitely glad that I asked around!
