Regrets, I've had a few...

A very near miss on a serious regret - I was saving for a BV Veneta and succumbed to sale-fever at the end of season Barney's sale this winter, purchasing a suede Lanvin Happy (marked down to $700 from $1800). Almost as soon as I completed the purchase I began berating myself for my lack of will power. I was sure as soon as it arrived I would instantly feel how wrong I had been and lectured myself repeatedly on returning it straight away.

Instead, when I opened the box I fell instantly in love! How on earth did such a lovely bag get marked down so much? I've carried the Happy almost constantly since it arrived and am very much in love with the bag. I'm so happy I purchased it, as I can't imagine I ever would have acquired it at full price.

I has the same thing happen Christmas day with the Barney's handbag sale. On a bizarre, chocolate-fueled whim, I succumbed to the L'Wren Scott Lula bag in python, marked down over 50%. I have a phobia over python bags. And I wasn't so fond of the white zinfandel color they were calling wine. I kept hoping Barney's would cancel the order, but I got shipping notification. So I decided it would go back as soon as I could open it, verify they sent the correct order, and repack that stupid, thoughtless purchase.

30 seconds in hand and I was in love with every single thing about that bag, including color and material. Seen in person it works on every level. Pics don't even come close to doing it justice. No way I could return it now, and no way will I ever regret buying it, now that I've seen and held it. It's meticulously made, utterly gorgeous in material and every tiny detail, inside and out. I'm thrilled to have it, since at full retail, I would never have been able to talk myself into it. I can't believe it lasted long enough at the markdown price for me to stumble on it. I guess maybe because the pics don't convey the full elegance of the bag up close? Whatever, it was one of the best whim purchase I've ever made, and I'm so glad my regrets were short-lived.

My regret was passing it down! I had a small Gucci purse as my first and a Louis Vuitton Recital, both very small. I was only 15. As I turned 18, I spoiled myself to a larger purse, a Gucci Britt tote, loved it! I felt complete and gave my sister who was only 12 at the time my two small purse. My mom, older sister and I all had nice expensive handbags. Baby sister wanted something as well. But young and had no appreciation for designer quality, she gave them to her friends when she became this "rebel" and lost interests in handbags. Just because I was over my small purses, had she not expressed any interest in the bags at first, I would have still kept it for myself, to use for special occasions.

On a second incident, my beloved fiancé bought me a medium Sukey for our 1 year anniversary. Loved it so much, I wore it everyday and forgot about the Britt. But I also did not take great care of the Britt, so the edges on the leather were scuffed and the sides were starting to pull and shred. I showed it to my old client, she's a Gucci SA at the City Center Gucci in LV. She told me unfortunately when it's damages like that, they are not repairable. But it was still in great condition. My mom just happened to take it upon herself and used my Britt as her everyday bag because her Louis Vuitton's are too precious. So basically I gave it to her and she didn't take care of it well at all :( I still miss my Britt, it pains me to see the condition she is in now.

I reget buying this LV speedy monogram idylle a few years agoin 2005 for a few reasons...

1. The bottom corners started to FRAY and shows the lighter brown color!!! (Did this happen to anyone else??)

2. It didnt come long cross body strap and that those extra leather spine pieces on the side are pretty cool and wish i had them LOL.

3. I should have just gotten the damier print speedy with the red inside for durability instead. ( me trying to be different went for the more expensive and cloth material not thinking it wouldn't last as long duhhhh?!)

I was young and it was my first LV purchase. I still use it and get compliments all the time so its ok. LOL And NO I don't think I will ever sell it!!

No regrets here. Every bag I've sold or missed opportunity has ultimately led to something else. One could argue that I should regret selling my Birkin but the truth is it was awkward to use and didn't fit my lifestyle no matter how chic it was.

My biggest regret is buying bags in styles that just don't work for me just because I like them. I'd always try to go back to them and make them work and they just don't; either they are too small/big or the straps are not a good length for me. I've learned my lesson and have been a lot more conscious of my purchases.

I've only had a handful of bag 'regrets'. Ultimately, they were all lessons that helped me recognise what I value in a bag and what suits my lifestyle. When I was fifteen I spent my Christmas money on a lovely tote that I never ended up using, because it didn't have a cross-body strap. I love being hands free at all times, and prefer the security of a cross-body strap for issues such as theft. I've also learned that my penchant for jeans means that a lot of light coloured bags are out of the question for everyday wear. Hopefully these lessons learned will mean that I don't regret more expensive bag purchases in future.

My regrets are the less expensive purses I buy thinking it would make me happy instead of buying the really expensive LV I want. Lol. I learned my lesson now though and consider every purchase.

I regret the most throwing out or losing several now vintage Coach bags left to me by my grandmother. She had a serious thing for Coach and she was a bit of a hoarder but she had excellent taste in bags. I seriously don't even know what happened to some of them, but I would give my eye teeth to have them back now. I still have at least one from her and I will never get rid of it.

I regret purchasing my LV Speedy. I realized im not into hand held bags; I prefer shoulder bags. I havent used it in over 3 years  Maybe when it gets warmer out ill try and use it more to run short errands so it doesn't feel like such a waste.

I almost managed to get a Jerome Dreyfuss Twee bag in brown python off Ebay for around $500. I got outbid, but it still hurts to think about it. It would have looked so good with all my outfits.

I purchased my speedy idylle in the light blue last year and only used a couple times and it's already completely stained yellow by rain! I wanted to get a different speedy than everyone else and thought its more expensive price means it is at least as durable as the original canvas but it already looks so old after only less than 20 uses:(
Regret!
