BTW, I was interested in how they pronouce Hermès... "airm" LOL

Not always great, and Hermès, being a family name is weird anyway as it is pronounced air-mess. (this from the woman who grew up with the cartoon strip Yoz-mite Sam. Took me till 25 to realize it was the same word as Yosemite you-sem-e-tee.) Trust me at your own peril

I called a boutique carrying Hermes recently asking to be transferred to the "air-mess" department and the person picking up the phone could not understand me. She simply made up an excuse and told me "she is not working today" and I'm like "I'm sorry. I wish to be transferred to the air-mess boutique" and again she could not understand me. I had to tell her the brand, "air-mess"?? She still can't understand me. Okay then I said Birkin/Kelly any idea??Then she said "OH...Her-mess" and was laughing at my pronounciation!! OMG!! I felt so insulted she even try to correct my pronounciation to "Her-mess" from "Air-mess"!!

That's so funny yodaling! There are a number of SAs that I have come across who pronounce it that way. In fact, that's not the only thing they pronounce wrongly.

I was interested in the bearn wallet and went to the boutique asking to see one. I showed the SA a picture of the bearn and asked her how to pronounce it. She told me "bee-ann". Silly me went to London asking for the "bee-ann" wallet. The SA must have found it hilarious but luckily he did not laugh but told me the correct way to pronounce it.

Hahaha! You'd think they would at the very least teach the SAs how to get the pronunciation right during the induction/ training package for newbies, right?

hahaha the SA was wrong! Like someone else just said, you'd think the SAs should know what their product name is. Jypsière is Gypsie-air for future reference :D:D

I'm dying laughing at these stories. I know I don't pronounce French names well but I try to just own it. I will attempt to pronounce any word... then tilt my head a little to the side, squint my eyes a little and say "wait, is that right?"... :giggles:

SAs will always correct me... Then I know how to say it next time (and we just giggle).
One of the SAs at my local store admitted that sometimes she doesn't know how to pronounce colors so she "makes it up and adds a French accent" :lolots:
I was clueless on how to say Rose Jaipur.... and, obvioulsy, so was she bcuz according to the Google Ap, it sounds completely different! This Ap is on point! Thanks! I love hearing the French lady speak.
