Hi everyone! I just purchased my first RK --- micro Boxer bag! The color is "Orange", but it reads more like a muted coral. I'm not entirely sure I want to keep it yet. Does anyone else here own one? I'm curious about the wear over time and potential color transfer since it's so light. Also, any ideas on what to carry inside to make it more secure since it's an open tote? Thanks for letting me share!ImageUploadedByPurseForum1401838571.711050.jpg

Gorgeous! Congrats!

I haven't had too many issues with things falling out of mine with the strap on the handles to keep things from shifting. I keep some of my smaller items in a little bag inside the main pouch along with my key case, coin purse, wallet, and phone. Receipts and small papers go in the back pocket and smaller items I don't go for often go in the front pocket.

Basically that a lot of the construction is poor and it will fall apart in a couple of years. The piping is plastic and the leather is treated in such a way that it looks and feels like nice, squooshy leather but the handles will crack. He said it was clever -- the body of the bag itself is extremely cheap but is treated to look expensive. He said there was more effort put into the details -- like the hanging tag, and the stitching holding the handles on the bag, than the actual bag. He was pretty sure it came from two different factories.

All in all he was shocked at what the bag went for.

I just ordered a bag on sale (Atlantique). Really good price was only about a third of retail. I then saw this post and was worried about it. Upon receiving it while I haven't decided if I should keep it or not, I can't see how the leather or craftsmanship is really any worse than most designer bags. Quality has been slipping with corners cut and cheaper ways of doing things and prices going up for years with pretty much any designer bag, even high end ones. At the end of the day with most designer bags it's the brand we pay more for. You could get a no name hand crafted leather bag for a tenth of what some bags cost and it would be better quality than something with a designer label attached.

I am still deciding on this bag but I won't be sending it back based on quality it appears to be quite well made and an interesting design.
I don't feel this bag is any worse than say the Alexander Wang or Philip Lim bags.

In saying all that I wouldn't buy one at full price because I don't rate the brand highly enough for some of the prices (even though I like some of the designs). But I think the same of Wang and Lim bags, never paid full price for any of those either.

The Atlantique was what he was responding to, and I didn't send it back either. My husband bought a custom bag from him and it's wonderful. But yes, he is not a premier designer. I wasn't trying to talk anyone out of anything, ultimately. In my experience I always end up finding a great designer and then they cheapen it up to the point of ridiculousness, but there's always a new designer ready to take over for them. I have a couple of Reed bags (a Boxer II in addition to the Atlantique) and I don't know for sure I'd buy another one...but I wouldn't rule it out either.

I'm just trying to say that people should be aware of when they're overpaying. And my understanding was that RK was trying to compete with much higher end bags, not PL and AW. The default price on an Atlantique is what, 2k now? I paid $750 and that's about what it's worth to me.

I only paid $500 for mine. I am aware I'm over paying every time I buy a designer bag these days but I still get sucked into doing it.

I know RK bags price point kind of aims them at high end designers but I guess I compared it to PL and AW because of country of manufacture and the price I paid for it. I also rate it as a brand on the same level as those two and wouldn't pay full asking price ever.

I was meaning that I'm sure if you showed this "expert" bags from any brand, even high end, I'm sure he would find flaws and cut corners making them not worth the price. I don't think RK would be any different to most.

Pretty much the only thing differing to RK bags and my other high end is the country they're made in which apparently most high end brands are made in the same country anyway just "finished" in their "made in" country.

I've not read anything negative about the quality of them so far, that they've fallen apart or the leather has cracked so there's no real life experience with that happening. (Miu Miu on the other hand, I've had the leather on their bags spoil within a year. And they are considered more high end - as an example, I don't buy them any more and wouldn't recommend them.)

Anyone manage to snag one of the new RK40 bags? I love the orchid color, but alas, sold out. Reasonable price considering the shift to manufacturing in Italy. I'm willing to be more will be released, but at a higher price point later on.

This is what one of my SA (whose been worked in purse departments since 1980) told me too. She has seen many unhappy customers who's bags have fallen apart. She said the exotics are still quality made.
Think the bags are cute but she said long run I would not be happy. Curtailed my bag purchases to just a couple times a year. More into jewellry in my advanced age. :p
