Question regarding tacky people and carat size....

I get more comments from men, weird comments. I always tell me DH about them and he laughs and says "that was supposed to be a comment, guys don't know what to say!"
I say "ummm, how about, nice ring!"? LOL!

Its silly anyway. I know a woman who has a 5 carat stone. Everyone makes a fuss over it. She threw it in all of our faces when her hubby bought it for her. Saying he was the best man alive cause he spent so much on her. She hoped we could all find a man like hers. HA! But its sad cause her husband has cheated on her with her coworkers and has hit her. He treats her like crap. What a great MARRIAGE.Isnt that what rings are supposed to represent, the circle of love and marriage.

awww, she probably knew and was trying to talk him up in her own head for her own sake

It took my DH years to figure out all I really want is jewelry, so now when he buys it my friends ask "what'd he do wrong!?" LOL!
I tell them nothing hopefully, but I tell him not to bother buying me junk for 3-4 occasions through each year, just once every year or 2 please add to my collection and he does!

^^^I need your husband to talk to mine. DH never wants to spend money, he's always "we have to save" or "the economy's bad" blah blah blah. We've saved plenty and have zero debt. Two houses, no mortgages, paid cash for our cars, etc. And we're young! Besides, you can't take it with you.

LOL! My DH is that guy too actually. He's very frugal, literally EVERY time I leave our house he yells "don't spend any money!!!"
But I think once he saw how excited I get when he gives me jewelry it makes him more excited to give it. Plus he thinks my daughter hung the moon so knowing she gets all Mommy's baubles makes him happy :D

People usually just ask if mine is real, and I just say "It had better be for as much money as my husband spent! ;)"

All together mine is a little over 4 carats, and it will one day be even bigger ;)

I find people looking at my hand on a regular basis, and they smirk or comment to someone else about it, but very rarely do they actually say something to me.

In all honesty you should take it as a compliment, even though some people are a little rude about it :)

that is so funny. i see that you also live in colorado where you would also know that having a large rock is not necessarily the norm here—unless you're in the denver area, especially cherry creek, englewood or downtown (or aspen, too). but i live in fort collins where even though there is a lot of money here, you'd be amazed at how women just are not into that sort of thing here—kind of like boulder. they probably spend more money on their tevas than their engagement rings.

mine is 3 ct. and even though nobody has ever asked me the carat size, they do look at it in awe, which for me, is uncomfortable. but hey, i chose to wear it right? so i wear it with pride every single day.

What a fabulous phrase!
Love it and am going to pinch it if you'll allow me :p
DH is the same, perhaps I can finally get him to buy me jewellery using this angle ;)

That's so sweet!!!! Great way to see it :smile1:. You have a good husband.

Yes, sometimes it can get uncomfortable as well, but more if they ask for $ amount. I had someone asked me how much my ring cost, my shoes and my apt in the same sentence at my daughter's baptism reception in front of other friends. I just told her, more wine??.

But I don't get asked the question of the ring much. I live in South Florida, so it's more common.

I say this a lot on tPF but "delivery is EVERYTHING!"
True that!!

KZ. Just FYI, I did not mean for it to sound like ANYBODY is tacky for asking.....it is just tacky in the way certain people, not everyone, present it in a way to make me uncomfortable KWIM?

I also hate the "You DF must really love you" just like others have said.....so if he bought a smaller diamond, that means he loves me less? LOL!

Yes, I KWYM, and I can see why a comment like "your df must really love you" would aggravate some people. I guess that's part of the price you pay for having an awesome ring--it's going to get attention and attract comments of every type. :p
